Just got the call for an interview! Where do you fly into? I feel like it would cost a ton just b/c the airport in Gville is so small...

Congrats!! I was going to fly to Orlando to save $100 on the flight. But then I calculated the Megabus fair plus the uber ride from the airport to the Megabus location and back and in total I would save $25. I decided just to pay for the flight straight to Gainesville, it's worth the peace of mind. Which day are you interviewing?

I'll be flying in the 27th to interview the 28th. You??

are the updates in the user profile section supposed to be filled when we submit our secondary or throughout the year?

What do you all think about the prompt "Optional:If you think there is any additional information that would help the admissions committee in its review of your application please use the space below"? Is that a place to explain shaky grades? I feel like I shouldn't leave that prompt blank.

I used that space to talk about my connection to Florida as an in-state student. I go to school in NC so I wanted to make it clear that I'm dedicated to staying in florida, etc.

Ah. I went there for undergrad, so I could probably use that space to talk about my time here so far. Thanks for the idea.

Ooh, now I wonder if you know me or my friends! Half my high school went to UF 😛 So it'll be like a mini class reunion when I go to interview.

Any recent IIs from UF?

OOS gal, here, with v. strong in-state ties, so I'm hopeful!

We have almost the same LizzyM! Hoping they simply look at IS apps before OOS ones. I would love to interview here to escape the NY winter!

Regarding the question about the essays: How am I supposed to discuss the student if there is no gender? I can't keep saying his or her the whole time, it sounds so awkward.

I just picked a pronoun and stuck with it. I don't think it will affect your application in any way

"they"
"them"
"their"

I don't get why non-gendered pronouns are never even considered...

Or, more explicitly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They

{ " It can also be used with singular meaning, particularly in informal contexts, sometimes to avoid specifying the gender of the person referred to."}

Welcome to the gender non-binary fam

"They" is actually used quite often in gender neutral or gender nonconforming cases. I wrote all of my essays using they/them/their.
Hmm. I learned something new today. Thanks bud.

Did everyone push 500 words on their essays? Working on the integrity essay and coming up with around 250.

Anyone OOS receive an II? Georgia resident, but UF SOM showed up to my school Health Career Fair saying they were OOS friendly, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Just getting to the secondary now. Do I have to fill out the entire professional school app to get a UFID to put into the secondary app? I'm confused

you need to submit the professional app to receive an ID necessary to submit the secondary.

So did people write a completely new "statement of purpose"? Or did you use your personal statement from amcas?

Also there's no MD option in degree programs on the professional app?

Got the call for II today! I'm OOS, LizzyM 75, complete 8/4. The interview dates they gave me were either 9/11 or 9/18. I'm so excited to see the school!

I found that a better method is to click the "Watch Thread" button on the top right of the thread and you get alerts when there is an update.

Thank you but I clicked it awhile ago and have never got an alert 😕 I know a few other people with the same issue not sure what the fix is other than to comment

I'm an out of state student and got an invitation to interview two days ago! Super excited, and I think I'm going on September 18th. Anyone else planning on interviewing then?

Ahhh, this gives me hope as a fellow OOSer! Congratulations! Stats, if you don't mind sharing them?

Hi everyone! I'm a current first year at the UF College of Medicine. I just wanted to say good luck to everyone this cycle and that I'm looking forward to meeting some of you next year! This school is absolutely incredible, and deserves be a top choice for very many people (Especially Florida students!). Those who get to interview here will be blown away by the brand new Harrell Medical Education Building that us first years have gotten to break in! It really raises the bar as far as medical education goes.. even higher than perhaps a great many other schools in the country!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know I will be your 100% honest, reliable source for all things UFCOM. I can give you secondary, interview, and perhaps post-acceptance/decision-making advice throughout this cycle if you ever need it! I'll throw out one piece of advice right now: don't underestimate the secondary application! Dr. Lynch, our Dean of Admissions, is very serious about the responses you give in that portion of the application! If this is the school for you, put a lot of thought into your responses!

Best of luck to you all!

Hey, I actually have 2 questions for you!

I'm a UF student, and I did some volunteering at UF Health my freshman and sophomore years. Beyond that, I didn't have time to fit volunteering in because I had lots of classes, shadowing, research, and TA duties. When I filled out my AMCAS, I just put down the 30 total hours per semester that we were assigned to do for a total of 90, but now that I think about it a little more, I realize I did miss some days each semester and so I probably have closer to 80 or high 70's. I'm a bit worried, I wish I had made sure how many hours I had before I filled out my AMCAS. Do the admissions guys have access to the number of hours we volunteered at UF Health? Are they likely to check?

Also, around how long after your application is under review are you likely to get an interview? My last letter of rec just came in last week even though my secondary was submitted in August. My TA professor was out of the country and I was waiting on him, hence why it took so long. Thanks.

I doubt 10 volunteer hours would matter too much. The most important part of the activities section of the AMCAS application is what you write in the essay portion for each activity, not the number of hours you put in. As far as your overestimation goes, I wouldn't worry.

I can't tell you any likelihood of interview timing because it varies so much. Since your application isn't complete, they probably haven't even looked at your application yet. One complete, you may be getting a call quite sooner afterwards (I did). I know for others it took longer.

It's worth mentioning that UF is probably one of the more selective schools as far as interviews go. We interview very few applicants, so if you are invited it's a really good sign.

I wish you the best of luck! Let me know if you have any more questions about the the school or anything

That was a really quick reply, thanks! You've put my mind at ease, a bit. I was having apocalyptic visions of UFCoM grilling me about those some missing volunteer hours, then blacklisting me from every medical school ever again. The more I thought about it, the more I convinced myself they had a program that fetched exact volunteer hours from like a database or something using your UFID... Lol. Now that I think about it, some of my volunteer hours ended up undocumented because the volunteer office was usually closed by the time my shift started, and I would forget to log them myself. Ugh, wish I'd been more diligent with that.

Yeah, I put a lot of effort into my essays. UF is honestly probably my top choice. I love UF and staying here would be really nice, since I have a few friends in the CoM and I know a lot of the faculty already. I practically live in the medical sciences area of campus since all my classes and stuff have been down here for a year or so now. I think my life would seriously be complete if I got in here, haha. My numbers are pretty good (LizzyM of 76 I think), clinical experiences are decent, have good EC's/leadership activities, so I'm hoping I at least get an interview invite. Though if they're pretty selective I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. I believe my application was finally "complete" on the 17th. So it may be some time before I hear back. Thanks for the help!
