Does KU Med accept letters of intent? I interviewed last Friday and this school is my top choice.

2020. Though I watched a CC where they were studying for that test and I don't envy you.
 
Any out of state applicants get interview invites? Or does it only officially start in January for us?
 
OOS usually interviews after the new year.
 
A question for those current med students... (I know this question is super premature but I was just curious) Did you find buying/having your own copy of the textbooks was helpful? Just wondering if it's one of those situations where they say get the textbook but you never end up using it.

There are some books that everyone uses (or at least should) like First Aid, Pathoma. A lot of people have BRS Physiology, Robbins Pathology, etc. I personally only have First Aid and Pathoma, I haven't used any other books for the modules and I haven't felt like I've missed out.
 
I interviewed on Oct. 29th, when do ya'll think I'll hear some news? If I'm not mistaken 2-3 weeks?
 
I have two address listed on the application, where does KU send the snail mail?
 
Anyone else who got accepted/rejected yet wanna share stats? I got a 501 on the new mcat, awful with cars... But 3.9 gpa and lots of EC. Hoping for wichitas campus! Great home feel to it!
 
Congrats to everyone who has been accepted so far!! I have a question for those who are current medical students. Is there anything you would recommend doing prior to starting medical school? Or should I just take this time and chill? lol🙂
 
Prepare yourself. Your life is about to change drastically.

But seriously, have fun now. Relax. See those of you accepted next year. 🙂

Besides keeping your grades where they are, literally nothing. You will have the next four years to study more than you ever have in your entire life. Enjoy your time off now. A lot of people travel the summer before, go to Europe or Africa or wherever you've always wanted to go. Travel time is a rare commodity in med school (as is money). Just enjoy your last free summer for a while.
 
No grades to worry about. Non-traditional student so just working right now. Planning to travel a bunch beforehand. Going to miss having money though......
 
Pls share with us on questions that came up for fpr all those who have already interviewed. And also for those accepted, please let us know what materials you used in preparing for the interview.
 
What is taught in the first 8-week class 'Fundamentals of Medicine'?
 
My interview was tough but his main way of interviewing was to be the "bad cop". I then got the good cop interview after which went great
 
Is this school still accepting secondary applications? I just finished mine.

I have the secondary done but I am just waiting for AMCAS to receive my files from interfolio. I understand that AAMC is closed this weekend, but do you think the letters will be added to my account so that KU can receive the files?

I agree with LotsaLove. First Aid and Pathoma are musts. Most of the books you'll need are on ClinicalKey as well. Robbins especially is on Clinical Key, and pretty much all of our I2 books are on clinical key or someone has a PDF version they'll share with you.

I would say enjoy the freedom you have right now and just chill. There's nothing to really do to "prepare" for this. The information isn't necessarily hard, there's just a lot of it. Congrats on getting in!
 
I'm well aware of the name of the course; do we really need to get into semantics or can we agree that I was answering his question with the obvious answer?

Or, to overexplain:

"Hey, what's in the tomato soup?"
"Tomatoes."

My interview was really laid back. We ended up talking about the Royals for 10 minutes during my primary interview (only because he brought it up). Mainly about issues facing healthcare and about my experiences, and one question about what I would do if I caught someone cheating (there is a correct answer to this question). My second interview I got a few ethical questions, prescription drug abuse but I think that was because of my shadowing in pain clinics around the area. Again, a laid back interview with very professional interviewers.

You go over biochemical and some genetic stuff. You get introduced to how we do histopathology. Geek out to being in freaking medical school 🙂
 
Well I was put on the wait list until March :/ it'll be a long semester! Interviewed oct. 29
 
sure thing: i mentioned it earlier in the thread, i got a 501 which sucks. my gpa is solid at a 3.9 and i'm a D1 collegiate athlete. ive done some job shadowing and a bunch of volunteer work with my team. Hundreds of hours being a physical therapist assistant. I also worked at the free clinic for people's city mission. No research though.

Like stugglebus, I'm on hold until March. IS, interviewed 10/8, MCAT was 507, cGPA 3.7 and sGPA 3.5. Lots of hours working for a clinic in Kansas City also. It's going to be a long wait.
