2016-2017 Drexel University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you wondering the metrics they showed us on interview day were as follows for last years class
Interviews: 1141
Accepted 653
Enrolled 260
avg cGPA: 3.67
avg sGPA: 3.62
avg MCAT 31
do we know if the gpa/mcat averages were of those accepted or those that matriculated?

Do not do this. Drexel looks way beyond just your stats btw. (Which does, in some way, explain why they have a lower average matriculant GPA and MCAT). Naturally anyone who applied there would love an II and contacting admissions will not help your case. They received 15k applications last year, so you need to wait for them to get to yours. It's October 1st, you're not in anyway out of luck if you haven't gotten an II yet. They interview into March/April.

Thank you so much for the advice!! Yeah even though my stats are pretty average, I have amazing ECs and clinical experiences which is why I was hoping I would be a good fit for Drexel. But you're right I should be more patient for sure haha.

Completed my II on 08/15, but for some reason, my MCAT score still has a red mark next to it. I contacted Admissions and they said it was a glitch, which should be fixed soon like 4 weeks ago. It's still not fixed. Anyone else having the same issue??

**secondary not II right?

If they say it's a glitch then don't worry about it

Same issue. In fact, I called and got it fixed to say complete, then it went back to having a red mark.

Hey guys, on MSAR it says there's a one-on-one open file interview with faculty, and a group interview with students that is closed file. Can anyone speak to how the student interview goes?

Also, my interview is set for a Saturday, but one of my buddies who goes to Drexel says that seems wrong and they only interview during the week. Has anyone interviewed on a Saturday?

Thanks in advance!

Basically one of the students will be talking to you and other applicants about anything and everything while eating lunch. It's super casual. You're also welcome to ask any questions you have (including those you're too scared to ask the faculty about) during that time.
And make sure your interview isn't a Saturday lol. If it really is set on a Saturday, call the office and confirm again. I haven't heard of a Saturday interview since I think we only do Monday Tuesday and Thursdays.

For the group interview (with the medical student over lunch), how many applicants are there per group? Is the interview in a cafeteria, or somewhere more private? Thanks in advance!

I had 4 total. In a cafeteria setting surrounded by other groups. It's kinda loud

I'm scheduled to interview on a Saturday. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see if that's correct.

Interested to see what you two find out. I'm also scheduled to interview in a Saturday.

Anyone know if they will give out acceptances on Oct. 15 or will they wait until Monday?

That's the earliest they can send em basically, but last year people didnt find out until end of october

But we'd know yes or no to the question of "will we know if the first acceptances will be issued Saturday or will they wait until Monday?"

During the interview day, does anyone else remember them saying something about us knowing the final decision in a PDF that will be posted on our page? I am reading in past years that people found out that there is a decision online and then 1-2 weeks later they get something in the mail and last year I don't know what happened but people got phone calls for their acceptances.

I got an email but no phone call and an acceptance package in the mail a few weeks later.

Anxiously waiting for a decision!! My number one school and my only MD II (go figure). Lol. The 15th (or the 17th) can't come soon enough

Did the email say you were accepted or just that your decision was mailed?

The email said I was accepted. "Congratulations! You have been offered a position in the 2016 entering medical school class at Drexel University College of Medicine." It then mentioned my official letter was on its way.

Anyone know if they'll release regular decisions on a saturday? I know they sent out IIs on saturdays earlier this cycle

Monday is the earliest any MD school can release any regular decision acceptances.
That's not true, they can tell you Saturday, October 15th.. However, many schools will be waiting until Monday because they don't want to come in on a Saturday to send a bunch of emails. It really just depends on the school and the person whose job it is to email you.

Read bullet 3, and the asterisk at the end of the document. This suggests Monday at earliest, by my reading. No?

Well, that document is from 2013 so I can't say if it is correct or not, but I know from my interviews that multiple adcoms have told me that if they feel like it they will come in on the weekend, but most likely we won't hear until Monday. (And the last time the 15th was on a weekend schools still sent out acceptances)

I've even heard in another thread that all of these are suggested regulations and not hard-pressed rules, and some regular decision applicants have already been accepted (EVMS and Rochester come to mind) as long as it is by phone and there is no written documentation.

They shouldn't release decisions until Monday, per AAMC communication (via gonnif): http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...ase-acceptances-in-oct.1204842/#post-18191553

I honestly don't think it matters, and whether someone finds out Saturday or Monday I don't personally care, but I do think it's somewhat telling that they can't write down the communication. The expectation should be Monday at earliest (for schools explicitly following AAMC guidelines), but realistically people should be aware that Monday arriving won't necessarily mean the decision will immediately follow.

anyone know if decisions will be released today? i'm freaking out lmao

Last year people got notifications of a decision being made as early as 7:00am on the 15th which does not seem to be the case this year. Nothing for me yet

Anyone complete late August/Early September hear anything about II's yet?

Does anyone know how to cancel an interview here? I don't see a "withdraw application" option.
