Space reserved for prompt.
Please post the essays or lack thereof (in addition to word or character counts) in this thread and tag me and/or @Ismet and we'll update the OP.

Good luck to everyone applying!
Hello Wedgedawg...just a note that you misspelled Tucson. It's no big deal (lots of folks do the same), but you might want to change it for those future docs who do a search for "Tucson."

Hi all!

I'm an incoming MS1 and a native Tucsonan (who attended UA for undergrad). Feel free to ask me any questions about the school, city and application process!

Thanks for be willing to answer questions. Can you comment at all on OOS friendliness for someone with no ties to the state (other than it being a state I would love to end up in long-term)? Thanks!

I think the class is typically ~25% OOS though by law they can accept up to 50%, so quite friendly for a public school! If you look at last year's thread a lot of OOS people interviewed.

anyone know what's up with the LOR requirement? I won't be able to get a letter from a doctor or clinical supervisor, should I just not bother submitting the secondary?

Contact the school for an exception before making a decision about the secondary.

So what exactly is meant by the term 'clinical supervisor' for the LOR requirement?

added tucson a few hours ago and already received a secondary. i thought they screened?

Can you post the prompts? Curious to see if they are the same as last year. Thanks!

From what I've heard (and I could be wrong) in state residents automatically get a secondary, and then oos applicants get screened at 3.0gpa and 500 mcat.

Nice. There goes my plan to add all the screeners save some money lol😛

Reasonable screen though🙂

If you have lower stats than this, I wouldn't worry too much. UofA definitely has one of the best holistic screenings, and I know lots of current students who had lower gpas & mcat scores but still got in!

Thanks for the headsup! I'm just above the gpa screen but well over MCAT. Here's hoping! Love this school for how much they seem to really care about choosing the right student population!

Yes, we screen for MCAT and GPAs before we send out secondaries. We started processing applications for initial secondary invites this week.

Happy to see administration for the school contributing this year.

I too am an incoming M1 so I would be happy to answer questions, but I don't know much about the school yet, haha. Previous Sun Devil here.

OOS just got my secondary invite this morning! Good luck everyone! 🙂

How strict are the english requirements? I only have one quarter of english but multiple quarters of other classes that involved a heavy amount of reading and writing (...just not traditional english literature).

Am I out of luck? I'm not an applicant for this cycle so sorry if this doesn't belong here.

I wasnt screened with mid 3.3s/c
Sorry, weren't screened in? Or weren't screened out? I'm lower than that but non trad with a post bac and I got the secondary.

There are likely more secondaries heading everyone's way! They're probably getting through the massive numbers of applications they've gotten already. Maybe those who haven't gotten their secondaries yet should start sharing their verified dates (or dates they got your app) to see where they might be in the pile?

What's MCAT range for this school?

I mean the 4.0 might help you out with them since they seem pretty holistic. As long as you have a comparable MCAT (to the 4.0)? When were you verified?
My MCAT is decent. It's been almost a month since I got verified. That's why I think my app probably got screened out.

So is the physician/clinical letter requirement truly required? Or are exceptions made? Any feedback from previous applicants would be nice.

I am not speaking from authority, but how would you view this if you were the admissions committee? From the get go trying to be the exception and not meeting the preset requirements. I would imaging that even if they would consider your request, you would be at a disadvantage to those that have the letters with similar stats and experiences. You can still probably get this letter filled if you are volunteering in a healthcare setting, or if you go out and seek shadowing and make a good impression.

EDIT: It is not ideal to wait, but I was finished with my secondary and letters for this school in October and got accepted

For those that have submitted the secondary, are your essays reaching the 500 word limit? 500 words is like a full page essay :O

Are you sure you're on the right thread? Word count for me was 350 word for all essay questions.
But anyways... 3/4 of my answers were around the 350 word limit. I don't think its necessary to worry if you're below the word count though if you expressed/answered everything you needed to.

Just realized the questions aren't on here yet!

@WedgeDawg

For the question about the role you play helping the COM achieve their mission, should we also address a little bit of "Why arizona?" in our answer?

For the second question, would talking about research count as an academic experience? Or are they just referring to coursework when they say something other than academic experience?

Anyone know how OOS friendly this school is? Sent my secondary OOS anyways though it seems like a great program!

Personally, I would try to find something that is more personal. Talking about your research is kind of out of the spirit of this question.

For a public school it's quite OOS friendly with about ~30% of the class OOS

I'm having the same problem. Did you find out how to resolve it?

Edit: Just saw the admissions committee is represented on this forum. @UAZ COM-T Admissions - do you know how we can submit our secondary fees with the above error?
