What do you guys think of a Facebook or other forum page for housing/roommates for accepted students? I know I’d personally like to room with someone else from the program to make costs cheaper

There is already a FB group called Nova Southeastern Univ - Roommate/Housing Finder

Hey, I'm applying here next year. Did any of you guys who got interviewed/accepted actually write close to 4000 characters for these essays? If not, what were your lengths around?

I’ve seen a few other schools do this, but usually they will make an excel sheet for students trying to find roommates. It’s pretty neat. People can go in there and put their preferences and find other roomies with the same qualities. So maybe try asking the admins if they could make something like that for you guys?

Edit: the excel sheet would be on the accepted students FB page

I did for most of the essays.

That’s would be useful for sure, I’ll bring it up at second look.

I never went over 2700. Mine were either in the 1200-1300 range or 2600-2700 range, which is a weird pattern.

I used all 4000 characters. But besides for the first essay, I divided up my essays into two or three different stories/topics each of which was 1000-2000 words.

I tried to find the academic calendar on their website, but there is no hope. When does the orientation, white coat ceremony, and classes start? Thanks

What about us who got waitlisted? We would like to know as well
July 27: Field Day
July 28: White Coat Ceremony
July 30: Classes start

So my "friend" called NOVA on Thursday and he was told that they weren't anticipating much wailist movement, and that they'll likely take about 2-3 people off at most. Anyone else hear something similar?

Well this stings a little....

I just emailed Ms. Reid today and she said waitlisted candidates should expect to hear after the first week of May.

So they are only going to give out 2-3 more acceptances? That’s it? Is this confirmed? So basically their class is already finalized....

There is 2 more weeks until April 30th and some like to feel proud by keeping all of their acceptances until then.

Based on....? Until April 30th, there's no way to know. I know more than 3 people who were accepted here who do not currently plan on matriculating here because they were accepted to "better" schools, but they're still waiting it out to decide. So this "anticipating" seems suspect at best.

Honestly, I personally have no clue. Someone did say that NOVA talks with other schools to anticipate their waitlist movement, so maybe that's where it came from 🙁 I was just relaying the information I heard. I mean, is really 3 people that far fetched for a class of 50?

I understand. I too can only speak to what I have heard between a couple of interviews and talking to adcom on the phone. My understanding is that the national range for acceptances per spot is 1.8 to 5.5. So with the exception of Nova offering hefty scholarship dollars to every accepted student who has multiple offers, it would be surprising to see them not take at least ~30 off of the waitlist.

One of the reasons some accepted students are holding off on declining their acceptances has to do with seeing exactly how much money Nova is willing to shell out to make offers from "better" schools less appealing. However, even in those cases, out of state students tend to want to stay close to home and when the deadline to decide comes, most people will not take a chance on a new school over a more established one.

Just wanted to chime in as one of the people in the 4/13 interview group: there was only 14 people there versus the 19-20 people in all the other groups and they said we were the last interview group and it was small because they were picky about who to interview instead of filling all the interview seats. Based on this, I don't see how they would be interviewing another group today.

In terms of waitlist movement: it was mentioned they anticipate going down 1/3-2/3 down their waitlist.

Personally, I don't think they will have to go down too far but I also doubt it will only be 2-3 people. The school seems amazing and lots of things going for them but I can see how their nontraditional approach and the uncertainties inherent of being a new school can be very strong reasons for people with other acceptances to pass over Nova SE.

I could live with 2/3 chance

Also nobody is getting rejected right? So if they already accepted 50 people then all of the remaining ~250 will be on the waitlist (assuming ~300 people interviewed total).

They didn't explicitly say that but seeing as no one on this thread has gotten a rejectance post-interview so far and they anticipate considerable waitlist movement I kinda doubt it.
They did say they interviewed a bit over 300 so at least it's not 400 like some earlier comments on this thread were saying

On my interview day, we were told 4/13 was the last interview, also Mr. Prichett anticipated reaching 1/3 to 2/3 into the waitlist
Hopefully y'all are right! I was just relaying the information my "friend" was told. For the record, I put friend in quotations because I don't really like him too much, but on paper we're friends, if that makes sense.

Haha for sure

Lol so Facebook friends but functionally acquaintances?

Again, I highly doubt it will only be 2-3 even with the most conservative of guesses. I also find it weird that they would throw out a number that low to someone over the phone when traffic day isn't even here yet.

More like a kid in your class that you have to talk because hes's in your proximity and that you're both doing similar things

I mean I’m okay with a 1/3 to 2/3 chance of being accepted. I can mentally accept that if I’m not accepted maybe I didn’t interview as well or someone was better than me. That would be fine. If it was only 2-3 acceptances, I would feel very misled and that I never had a chance in the first place. I mean lol I’d accept it obviously not like I could change it but man I’d be sad.

I would take a chance if they give me a full tuition.

Whenever I feel like I'm being neurotic Ima just refresh page 28 of this thread to remind myself that this is just baseline premed behavior lol. I feel like the "2 - 3 moved from the waitlist max" statement is probably an appropriate assumption to make *before* April 30th. Beyond that, I think 1/3 - 2/3 is definitely more reasonable. So possibly your friend misinterpreted this? There are already several individuals on SDN who publicly declined their acceptance offers, let alone the rest of the population and those who simply haven't made it public. Chin up y'all, stay positive.
