Yeah but that seems to contradict everything every other person has heard from admissions, including those who attended second look. So there’s no clear answer, but schools that take off the waitlist usually start to do so right after traffic day
Meh. For any school it's after traffic day. The numbers seem around right though. I wouldn't hold your breath

I can understand them sending out more acceptances than class positions, but I am still a little confused why the few people that come off of the waitlist wouldn’t hear until mid-June. Since every student has to hold a single acceptance by April 30th wouldn’t those few people that are pulled off the waitlist hear around that time?

Damn, that is really frustrating. Blew close to $500 to travel down for that interview when they had already overbooked the class and had no intention of accepting any more people.

because some people who have been waitlisted other places will get off those waitlists after april 30th, so then they will pull their spot at nova

Yeah that’s basically what I was assuming as well. I just don’t see how that process would proceed a month and a half past traffic day.

yeah, and it just seems weird that if they're overbooked, they even took off the 1-2 people from the waitlist that have been mentioned on this page. I just don't understand the logic lol

why are you guys baggin on them for overbooking? its not like you woulda gotten off the waitlist any quicker if they hadn't. those with overbooked acceptances woulda been waitlisted anyhow, then pulled before you. i dont understand why its hard to have patience. (fwiw im on the waitlist too). if we have to apply again next year so be it

I'm sure are upset because they continued to hold interviews even when they're overbooked which seems unnecessary. I'm fine with waiting, I just am confused when they keep giving such different predicted timelines only a couple days apart

Maybe they’re using the time to a) figure out how many ppl get accepted elsewhere and withdraw from the waitlist and b) evaluate the huge waitlist (which is weird cuz it’s already ranked???)

they can has as many interviews as they dam well pls lmao, no one should be upset about this

FWIW, they’re probably a bit confused on their situation as well. New schools have to find their footing and this is their first go with admissions, regardless of whether all of the staff members have worked admissions elsewhere before.

I do think it’s odd that they seemingly interviewed people for the waitlist, though. That’s a practice that doesn’t truly appear to be used anywhere else.

All in all, ima go ahead and unfollow this thread lol. If I hear good news in mid-June or whenever, then cool. But the discussion here really just seems the be stress inducing (though that’s honestly just SDN for you). Best of luck to everyone!

I mean yeah schools can do what they want but inviting ppl to fly all the way there and find accommodation only to not give the disclaimer that they’re overbooked is extremely inconsiderate.

It said they’re overbooked and full not that they sent out acceptances. Semantics while we all lose our minds lol

After discussing my options with multiple physicians who I know, most of them advised me not good to attend a new program over a well-established program regardless of the cost. I will be withdrawing from the waitlist.
:boom:

May I ask if you have other MD or DO acceptances or if you're planning to reapply?

OMG I'M GOING TO DIE
MY FRIEND LIED TO ME AND FAKED IT!!
SHE got an acceptance to a top 20 today and to celebrate she faked it
Turns out she doesn't like me, and wanted to make me feel bad
PM me if you want the full story
I'm now going to go cry in my room from stress and anxiety
... well this is awkward (stressfully awkward)

Even though I withdrew, can someone please give me the ELI5 run-down on wtf everyone is losing their minds over?

That kid should be banned. Troll.

I mean to be fair. They said it was their friend’s email and then came back and clarified that it was a lie. Rather I’m more suspicious of the first person who mentioned the overbooking

Wasn’t that the one we thought is the same person and the scooby doo thing was posted?? That was so funny lol probably not the same person cuz they’re not banned

Their "friend" lol okay.

Haha yeah I’m more leaning towards believing this time since they came back and said it was false lol

Yeah still suspicious of the first person though

... is this a normal state of drama on SDN school threads? I’m tired of this rollercoaster already lol

Plot twist the first person was the friend.

No I don’t think this is normal lol. I feel bad for ppl who haven’t reached the level of idgaf I have as a re-applicant lol

Wow that would be a new level of malice preying on premed anxiety

Haha yeah in the beginning I’d jump at each new news and now that I’m facing reapplication as a reality my emotion level is going meh

Just an update guys. Interviewed 3/2 and did not receive any contact for 7 weeks!.So called yesterday and they said they are having trouble sending contacting emails with .edu ending (school email)! I was waitlisted so on the same boat as everyone else btw but just wanted to warn you guys just in case 🙂

In regards to all the drama, some people are clearly trolling, while others may not be painting the whole picture. I went to Second Look and met a few people who will likely be going elsewhere. Sounds like there will be some waitlist movement. First half of the word waitlist is "wait." If you are waiting to hear back from Nova and don't have other offers, hopefully you have been preparing to reapply. I took this approach, was very surprised when I was blessed with getting an acceptance and believe that I will be a better med student/physician because of the things I did since I submitted my application.

Also they just called me within the past hour and asked me if I had any questions about what we were told at second look. While some things are clearly not perfect (hence the drama over SDN) they are really trying. The fact they called me personally was very reassuring that the admin truly cares about us as students. Anyways if you have any questions, not related to waitlist movement and/or scholarships, feel free to PM me.

For everyone freaking out about "interviewing for the waitlist..."

Three schools I got interviews at (DO) explicitly stated in emails that interviews later in the cycle would be interviews for the waitlist. I didn't want to deal with the drama and promptly withdrew from those interviews, mostly because I had other acceptances I liked better.

Point being, it seems to me that it is neither unusual or uncommon for schools to interview solely for the waitlist. It makes even more sense if, like Nova, they're sending out so few initial acceptances. What were they supposed to do - only accept 50 people, reject everyone else... and then have a class of only 20 people if 30 withdraw?

There has to be a waitlist, and with a new school, it needs to be decently long. Besides, if you interview amazingly well, you could bump yourself to #1 on the waitlist, which is a fantastic spot to be in. Just because you're interviewing for the waitlist doesn't mean you won't promptly get off the waitlist the second movement starts if you're a strong candidate. I don't see what all the angst is about.

I recently got an email that I received a scholarship for the 2018-2019 school year. The email says that the scholarship will continue to the following years if I maintain good academic standing and funds are available. I'm not sure what to make of those conditions. What exactly does "good academic standing" mean? I'm also not completely sold that money will be available down the road.

First of all congratulations! I’m anxious to receive a scholarship email myself. Good academic standing in any program is basically saying you’re passing and not in danger of failing or dropping out. For nova, this means obtaining “Pass” grades since the curriculum is pass/fail. In terms of money being available down the road, that’s variable for every school. From what I was told at second look, they do have money to give, but they don’t have a huge initial lump sum and are cautious in their promises for the future for this reason. It’s a new program so they’re still figuring stuff out, I think they’ll likely secure more money for scholarships throughout the next year, they’re just limited now because the programs been up and running for only a few months.
