Good luck to everyone applying!

Has anyone's General University App been marked as complete on the portal yet? I turned mine in on 7/7 and still marked as incomplete

I came here to do say the exact same thing... I submitted on 7/9/17 and my general app has no activity

This is probably well known, but just so other OOS applicants are aware, while the MSAR shows many of the students come from out of state but this is from the 6 year BA/MD program. The 4 year MD program only took 1 OOS last year and zero the year before. I wish I would have known that before I selected them in the primary from AMCAS. Hopefully this will save a few people some money. Good luck everyone!

This is actually not true. I can't speak for the most recent entering class (although I believe there was at least 1 OOS) but the year before there were 2 OOS in the 13-16 person entering class.

Just going by the phone call I had with the admissions office this week

I see. Maybe they don't consider regional students OOS.

Regardless, I just wanted to throw in my two cents that it seems there may be a chance for OOS students to be interviewed and accepted. Good luck with your app.

Just wondering if you are accepted, school starts in January right? So you would have to give up any interviews/acceptances at that point? Do they allow defferals to the next year?

Everyone still waiting for gen app to be marked complete?

Mine is complete. But I applied early. I also applied OOS which was apparently a big mistake as they have not accepted anyone but in-staters since the time of Christ.

Just got the gen app completed today as well , and submitted it.

Submitted the general app on 7/9, finally cleared on 7/31 and I was complete that same day.

Help! How does one tell if their general is complete or not? All I have received in email is confirmation of payment.

Could anyone provide the prompt's to this year's secondary essay? Thank you in advance.

Rejected just now because my prerequisites were >5 years old (despite being in school continuously, getting a PhD).

Just received the email saying if you didn't already submit the secondary by Aug 1st, you can still do so by Sept 1st although it will be considered late.
Given that they only accept 10-15 OOS students (and most of them were in a UMKS program): anyone else think it's better to save 50$ on the app. fee and just move on?

I was an Out of state applicant with absolutely zero tie to Missouri (Or Kansas city), but I was accepted last year. If you are OOS, and they still invite you for an interview, there is a pretty good chance you will get in. The school has a separate IS, neighbouring state, and OOS waitlist, which is an advantage for OOS interviewees.

A reason why there are not many OOS enrolled students here is probably because the OOS student who they accept do not go there, and those seats will be given to IS student. During my interview they told us, the earlier year they offered seats to 5 OOS students (out of their 20 seats) but only 1 came. The other 4 unfulfilled seats eventually went to either IS or neighbouring state applicant. If I were you, I would apply, because trying to save a little money in a grand scheme of things is not that important.

For people who might be wondering what the interview looks like, last year, the school interviewed only 2 days. Half of the applicants on the first date and another half on the 2nd date. I believe they interviewed 88 students with 44 each day. The date started with the information session, then the interview, then an optional tour of the hospital.

Interview is MMI format only. 44 students were divided to 5/6 groups (can't remember exactly how many). Each group were taken to different rooms for MMI. The room set up was not great. Only curtains were blocking a pair of interviewer/interviewee from another pair. So when all people started talking, it got loud. Be sure to speak loudly. There was no one-on-one interview.

The hospital experience at this school is great. The BS/MD students seemed very smart. OOS can also get IS tution after fulfilling some criteria, that is another plus point. Overall, I was impressed.

Any IIs yet?
They send II to every single one at the same time. Last year, it was sent on 9/23 and interview dates were 10/13 and 10/14. If you get II, make sure you make yourself available to their two days, because their interview is just those two dates.

Did anyone get an email confirmation after picking an interview date?
I'm pretty sure it just said you would get an email confirmation before the date of the interview. So I wouldn't worry!

Does anyone know how many interviews are offered total?

For the past three years (as I have read through previous threads), they have interviewed about 88 each year. Class of 2020 had 557 applicants, and 15 matriculated from the 88 interviewed. Out of that 15, 11 were in state, 3 were regional residents, and 1 was out of state/out of region. Last year was similar in stats if not identical. When I called in May, they told me they consider Missouri in state, and Oklahoma/Arkansas/Kansas regional. They stated, "they give extreme preference to IN and regional residents." They informed me their average MCAT was a 506 for the class of 2021. Interviews are MMI.

Hope to see y'all there on 10/10!

Not going to share specific scenarios presented in the MMI, but it was not bad at all. They don't expect you to know very much medical ethics outside of the obvious stuff (e.g. Don't go selling your prescriptions), and they don't use acting scenarios. Very straightforward prompts as well, you'll be very well off if you have had some traumatic experience in your life and can talk about overcoming it. That would've been useful for a number of stations.
Did you go to the optional tour? Do you think they'll count it against me since I did not go? If you went, did they make you sign in or anything?

I did. I do not believe they care whatsoever if you went on the tour or not. It was very informal. They did not make us sign in, and if we needed to leave early for whatever reason, they were fine with it.

Got bored in the airport waiting for my plane today. Looked over past threads and I thought I would report that UMKC has sent out "thank you for interviewing letters" in the past usually around Oct. 22nd. Last year they sent out decisions on Nov. 1st, and there was some waitlist movement around Nov. 15th-Dec. 13th. Hope this helps candidates that really want to go here!

Haha, I'm probably going to end up giving up my spot if I do get in. Don't really want to deal with the stress and bull**** that comes with a letter grading system.

I agree with you on that. Also, wish they had a cadaver lab.
