2017-2018 University of Nebraska

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called today. They are really nice in the office!! If there is an update to your application they will let you know but other than that they can't tell you anything (like if you've been reviewed, etc.). So scared to be less then a month away from the March 16th and not have heard anything yet. I honestly have no idea what i'll do if I don't get in. It has been my dream school my whole life.

Is there anyone from 12/08/2017 interview day received a feedback yet? Thanks

Can anyone describe the acceptance letter/envelope? Is it different than the rejection letter - is it thicker, more of a packet, etc. I received a letter from the admission's office but am out of town. My brother sent me a picture of the envelope, and I'd like to mentally prepare myself a bit. I'm freaking out. Thanks,

It’s a thin large envelope so that the acceptance letter isn’t folded. It had a couple other letters inside about housing and upcoming dates etc.

My rejection letter last year was in a small regular envelope like most mails come in. My acceptance letter this year was in a thin large envelope so it wasn't folded

Anyone know if UNMC is receptive to LOI's? If I was to send one, would it be better to mail it vs. email as pdf?

Heard that several candidates received rejection letters over the weekend. Very sorry guys.

Personally, I don't think they accept anything after Jan 2nd. I would have loved to send a LOI and a couple updates about research and volunteering that I am doing but they told me the won't look at anything after the 2nd

Just a quick question for anyone who has been accepted: I am oos and am trying to figure out if ( I’m trying to be hopeful, lol) I am accepted then will I get the email asking about the payment first or the letter in the mail first ( the admission office mentioned that sometime you might get the email before the letter). So for those of you who were accepted how many days after you got your acceptance letter did it take for you to get the email? And were you IS or OOS (I am trying to account for how long it took the mail to be delivered) thanks so much to anyone who responds!

I got an email about the deposit one day before the letter arrived at my house, but I'm IS so it's probably different for you.

Was rejected over the weekend. OOS 509 MCAT, questionable GPA is all I will say about that... 😉

Yes, essentially. UNMC offers alternate admission to people towards the top of the wait list. You get in when someone withdraws or get automatic acceptance the following year. I'm not sure how many of these they offer, however.

I don’t know for sure, but I suspect that they will be sending out their final decision this afternoon, that way the letters can make it to the oos people who it takes a few days to reach before the deadline. Good luck everyone!

I got alternate acceptance in the mail this weekend! Still hanging onto hope that I won't have to wait until 2019 to start at UNMC!
Oh my word! Congratulations! That is amazing! Super happy for you! From what I have heard, as long as you are the top half you have a really good chance!

Thanks for the encouraging words!! I certainly wish they could tell me how far down the list I am. Does anybody know what happens if an alternate doesn't get in this year? Like will you still have to submit an application next year even though it says you will be automatically deferred and admitted in the entering class of 2019?

Good question, I bet that at this point you could probably just call them and they would tell you since final decisions and ranking have been made and you got your letter.

Just got my rejection letter... Got accepted across the street but was really hoping to attend UNMC. Best of luck to everyone else.

I’m sorry that is a bummer, but that is awesome that you still got in somewhere!!!

Anyone know how many people are on the alternate list?

I don’t know about alternate, but according to MSAR they put 50 people on the waitlist.
Was that last years MSAR? I am looking right now and MSAR says it's not listed. Just trying to figure out the facts!

Got my alternate letter in the mail today. Technically OOS but went to college and have family IS.

I have not looked at it is a while but I very specifically remember reading that they give out 50 waitlists, applicants are notified of their position on either the top or bottom half of the waitlist and that acceptances are typically offered to those on the top half.

Okay so I just checked again and you are right it says it varies from year to year, but that the top half generally get accepted. I must be confusing numbers from other schools.

alternate too. I know 6 people declining and going elsewhere. 2 last week and 4 in the past 3 days and the list moves!

Well, my application has officially been sent to the grave yard of “lower half of alternates” to die a slow and painful death. Good luck to the rest of you and congratulation to anyone who got in.

Shoot. I’m sorry. Did you get a letter in the mail? So, your secondary updated?

Lower half alternate - is the general consensus that if you are in the lower half you don't make it out?

Still haven’t heard anything ... hopefully some news will be here by Monday in mail. Were they still trying to get all decisions put in mail by March 16th? I’m just praying for waitlist at least....

They say that top half has a decent chance and bottom half basically no chance... But then I heard last year almost all the alternates got in so not sure what to think at this point! Probably just depends on how many people get multiple acceptances and go elsewhere. I mean, they have a bottom half for a reason, right? I already know of some people withdrawing so theres already gotta be some movement. Stay positive 🙂

Has anyone who is on the alternate list (meaning you have guaranteed admittance for Fall 2019 if you don't get in this Fall) been accepted to this year's class or even heard anything back yet since sending in your letter?
