How are y'all checking your status here? My portal just has "Secondary App", and "User Profile" but no status option like most schools

You weren't ED or anything? Just normal submission? I am hoping to have the secondary in tomorrow, but I cant find this stinking UFID! I guess I am going to try to call someone tomorrow.

Someone said this earlier in the thread

"go to this site "one.uf.edu/applicant" and login with the info that you used for the professional application and then click check application status and there is a down arrow next to your name and that's where the UFID is"

It worked for me.

Yea it has been past 24 hours, and I still have under Application Status "No active applications currently in the system" even though I have all the emails saying I paid and how to find my UFID.

Nope, regular MD, in state.

For those of you who have already submitted, about how long did it take you to receive the complete email?

Hi everyone! I'm a current MS3 at UF COM. I interviewed at almost every school in Florida to ultimately land here and haven't regretted it for a second. UF has far exceeded my expectations in helping me achieve my career goals, and I don't think I ever knew it was possible to enjoy medical school as much as I have before coming here.

I'm happy to answer any questions!

Did you attend the welcome dinner the night before the interview? I wasn't planning on getting into Gainesville until pretty late but I might change my travel plans if it's worth going to.

Got an email from UF saying to buy the student season football tickets. Is this foreshadowing:heckyeah:

Thank you for reaching out! OOS here and wondering if UF discriminates strongly against OOS students with virtually no ties to FL. Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

We've actually been pushing to recruit more OOS students in recent years, and some alumni fundraising drives have been gathering the money to do just that. UF definitely looks for a certain kind of student, and if they feel that you fit that mold you're likely to get an interview regardless of OOS/IS status. There's still a bias towards IS, as it is a public school, but UF is certainly very open towards OOS applicants.

Congrats on II guys!
This is definitely one of my top 3 schools.
Hoping my 508 MCAT doesnt kill my chances here

It won't - as nauseating as it sounds considering how often everyone says it, well-roundedness is very important here and other aspects of an application make up for a below-average MCAT. Remember, 50% of matriculants have an MCAT below the median. There are other things to bring to the table along with a good MCAT score.

I did attend (I think? It's a bit hard to remember) before my interview, and a few times from the current student perspective. It does not affect your chances directly as it's hosted by the Admissions Welcoming Committee, which is all medical students. It is a good chance to talk with current students, ask questions candidly, and get the vibe of the school because it is VERY low-key.

What are they looking for 😉?

What are they looking for 😉?

It's kind of hard to explain. Some of my classmates are just hardworking academic all-stars, but most everyone has something unique about their background - whether that be their upbringing, extracurriculars, writing/essays, or something else. I think that my personal statement had a big part to do with my interview offer and was brought up a couple times during my interviews.

Academics are definitely important here, but in some cases I think admissions is more interested in that unique feature than high stats by themselves.

Anyone else still waiting on a UFID? I submitted the grad school app Jul 18, called on the 20th to be told it can take up to 5 days to "find" me a UFID. My One.UF.EDU portal still says no active application under the application status on the main page. I have the secondary ready to submit, just need the ID.

Lol "find" really seems like it would be something automatically generated like other schools do.

Just submitted my UF Professional Schools application and just began my UF secondary. I am having trouble finding my UFID. Where is the inverted arrow that should show it? I downloaded the PDF of what I submitted to the Professional Schools app and its not there.

look at response #33 of this thread

Has anyone received a complete email, or does UF jumps straight to IIs?

Secondary finally submitted and immediately got a complete email. Man that was a pain. FYI if you were a previous UF student (I was 8 years ago) you need to sign in using your gatorlink login and not the college net login. Hope this helps anyone else and prevents you from waiting to submit.

Has anyone tried to add an update to their application? I pressed save and then when I went back the next day it was gone. Do they automatically get sent off when you press save and then you can't see them again? or did my update never get submitted?

It worked for me.
Bless you

idk if this is a dumb question but do we think it would have any negative bearing on my app if i applied to UF for undergrad, got in, but decided to go to a different school in FL. i know theyll know about this whether or not i tell them ( i will of course) but im just wondering if they would look upon that poorly at all

Nah, I doubt it would be looked at poorly. Undergrad is a whole other ball game and there could have been an abundance of reasons you picked another institution. I can't imagine a med school actually caring about that.

For the activites section do we list all of our activites???? Or only list what you have done while in school? It says to list those when not enrolled in school so I am a bit confused

Yeah, I did not take a gap year, but that section is required so I was a little confused. I just wrote about what I am going to do in the summer before (hopeful) matriculation

I was told that they don't look at the graduate school app at all so don't stress too much about it!

What did yall put for the question asking "Do you give us permission to contact your preprofessional adviser, current or former professors, current or former employers, or recommenders for additional information concerning your application?

I just wrote about my plans for the summer after senior year and it worked for me haha 😀 I doubt they give that section much importance.

I put "yes". It seems like they are asking permission to reach out to your LOR writers if need be. I think it would be fishy if you said no

FYI it seems like UF has a pretty open application updates section (per their secondary complete email). The completed secondary has a page where you can continuously enter and save application updates either academic or extracurricular related, e.g. summer grades. Keeping it updated with your current activities seems like a good way to signal your active interest in the school!

I've had this secondary since 7/19 and I'm confused by the questions. What are they really asking? Question 2 about the reflections- Do I just talk about "that poem's super dark- I think we get 2nd chances?" And question 3 with the quote- yeah Will, everybody is different. How do you "Please address whether or not you agree with the author, why you do or do not, and how your conclusion might affect the way you practice as a physician," from "Yep. We're different?"

Am I the only one feeling confused and intimidated?

I got an II and that's basically what I did for question 3, but for question 2 instead of talking about the dark poem I focused more on the importance of good relationships with patients and how I plan on implementing that, I felt like my answers were pretty cookie cutter and that everyone would be basically saying the same thing for these essays though

Hey, can anyone offer some insight for me? I received my secondary invitation from this school on July 12th. I never prioritized it because I am an OOS applicant with literally no connection to Florida or UF. And in the past month, I have received no MD interview invitations, so I felt like it wouldn’t even be worth the $68 to complete and submit the secondary. In my head, I figured I had no chance here, considering no other schools have reached out, even the ones from where I am an IS applicant. But now I have read posts above that say they are trying to consider more OOS applicants. Now, it is August 4th, well past my two weeks where it’s usually encouraged to submit the supplemental. Do I complete it and submit it still? I applied broadly to 29 schools (24 MD, 5 DO). I have a 510-512 MCAT with a 4.0 overall GPA. So far, only interview invitations have come from DO programs. I apologize for the lengthy post, perhaps a current UF student can comment?

It's still way too early to be worried about IIs! I don't have any either and I applied to even more schools than you. Be patient, as others have said in the past: the next year is going to be incredibly difficult and stressful. Always have a backup plan, but also always stay optimistic! There are people posting here and on Reddit who came off of waitlists for their only acceptance in July (i.e. a month before med school starts). If you don't have any IIs by November/December, then it's time to starting lining up contingencies.

I'd also point out to everyone still writing secondaries that the med student reflections referenced in the first essay question have changed since last year. Last year's secondary referenced two short essays, and this year's links to a different essay and a poem. Make sure you're reading the "reflections" that include an essay and a poem. I almost made this mistake b/c I copy and pasted the secondary questions from last year's school thread, and the link was outdated. The language of the essay prompts is the same.

Congrats on II. Did you get a follow up email as well? I'm out of the country and my phone doesn't work.
They scheduled the interview over the phone and I got a follow up email after I scheduled it.

So if my phone doesn't work I could potentially miss out on an interview?
I feel like they would try to get in touch with you over email if they couldn't reach you over the phone. That being said, find a phone that works and update your phone number on AMCAS asap!
