@Meridian17 I feel you. I'm waitlisted at 2 schools without an acceptance. I've been pre-med for about 3 years now, and decided post-graduation that this was what I wanted to do. I almost applied last cycle but decided against it because I wanted to make sure everything was right and ready. Well, I let myself down by underperforming at my interviews. All the years of hard work I might have let go down the drain. I understand how upset you are, I am too. What has helped me is looking at other aspects of my life that are positive. I have a great personal life, not perfect by any means but I feel incredibly supported by my partner and family - I hope you have that as well. It sounds like you've excelled at your job by working hard, and that hard work is exactly what will be expected of you when you get into medical school - you already have the drive and the work ethic. Feel free to PM me - this cycle has exhausted me too.
Right there with you my dude. This is my first cycle but had to take prereqs and gain job experience post grad. I too haven't done much in way of reapplying as I work and am going to school so extracurriculars are hard to find time to do. I am afraid my application isn't going to look very different if at all which worries me a lot if I don't get in. Also, I am starting to get worried since I am getting older my future is getting more more influenced by this.

Fellow Wayne WL-er here! I would consider sending them a letter if you have any substantial updates since Feb. But, other than that, you're probably in a good position. They have a very large class and tons of WL movement. It's not a 100% guarantee, of course, but chances are decently good.

praying for you and me both! My MCAT expires this year and as a reapplicant im gonna be a sad boy if this doesnt work out. April 30 big movement energy!

Yeah, I'm not going to reapply this cycle. If I don't get in this year, I'll be in my (very) late twenties, which does scare me a tad, but I want to do it right the next time. But hopefully there won't be a next time!

I am 33. Don’t give up . Someone said .” You ll be 40 years old anyway , would you rather be just 40, or 40 and a doctor ?”

Calculating in the social/familial costs, it is hard to tell which is better tbh

@mmaslyanko I love how positive you always are! 🙂
I am really not ! I am a realist . I believe that everyone has potential , and when ppl realize it , wonderful things happen . And then those ppl work hard and make a world a better place . And sometimes the only thing standing between a person and their dream is someone telling him that he can do it .

Well I think all depends on what you want. There is no right or wrong here. I did have that other career before , and I was successful . And everyone told me I was too old to change it . But I remember feeling like I was wasting my life away ... so I realized I simply couldn’t live like this anymore. There is literally NOTHING I’d rather do in life than being a doctor .
As far as family - I have friends who had kids during medical school , who got married during medical school , and they are doing great . Some of those friends are neurosurgeons with 3 kids , and they are great . Everything is doable if you want it . But if you don’t - nothing is .

Pffft, late twenties..... That means you are YEARS younger than I was when I started my undergraduate. And here I am on the downhill slide toward 40, just starting medical school this year.

There are numerous reason for someone NOT to reapply, but being in your twenties shouldn't be one of them.

And I got one acceptance. No multiples, no agonizing decisions about this or that school, just a single acceptance. I know this thread can seem overwhelming to see people having to decide from their four or five acceptances, which one to commit to or drop. But not everyone is like that. Some of us only got ONE by the skin of our teeth.

So keep the faith..... age isn't a big deal until you're in your 50s (in my opinion anyway). Just fight for that one acceptance and never look back.

Good Luck

Couldn’t ve said it better !!!!

Does anyone know anything about UVAs waitlist? I’m dying over here, and it says online that it probably won’t move until late June

@Meridian17
i feel you.... this is my third year of applying and the first two i didnt get ANYTHING.... and then you come here and some ppl have 10 acceptances... i hated that.... But, FIRST OF ALL - it is too early to give up. Movement will be after april 30th.
Secondly, majority of ppl (statistically) have just one or two acceptances tops. It is just when you come to SDN or reddit, there are a lot of type A overachievers here (i am possibly one of them), and it feels like everyone is like that.

stay strong! it is way too early to give up!

If you want to be technical about it, most applicants don’t have anything because only ~40% get accepted anywhere. So the people on SDN reporting multiple acceptances are the minority by a lot.

oh, i meant majority people who do get acceptances have only one or two. sorry, shouldve been more clear

An extremely precise prediction algorithm would be the answer in a normal cycle.

Fair enough answer for an estimate, but I would’ve thought that the movement for this cycle would start April 30th and then eventually stop and slowly trickle afterwards and people slowly move up. Late June/early July seems really late.

Does anyone have a good site regarding financial aid? I’m currently committed to a strong DO program and waitlisted at a few MD programs. If I accept the financial aid offer from the DO program and were to be accepted to a MD program, am I allowed to “transfer” my loans to the new school? They’re both on my FASFA. Just trying to figure out when I need to “commit.” Best of luck to everyone.

I'm in the same boat as you. I ended up accepting just because I had a deadline, however, alot of ppl commit to one school and get off the waitlist off another school so I feel like it should be possible to transfer loans

Yeah I knew what you meant. I just wanted to point that out because people looking on here could think even having one acceptance is the norm when it’s not.

oh, definitely! great point. I think for me the biggest surprise was a lot of people do not get in from the first try, and thats ok. It is really hard to try again sometimes, because you feel like a failure, but it is so important to step back, think about everything you can change, and change it. And do better next time.

dude... i took MCAT 4 times, i go to the cheapest state college, work full time, because i dont have any family to rely on. I have 37 volunteering hours, because couldn't afford taking off job more than that, and in addition to that i feel REALLY OLD here. And i know a lot of ppl on this thread that have been through a lot of s*** too. 🙂 it is just that people do not share their weaknesses as much, you know?
For what it's worth, I'm kind of in the same bag. I've been out of undergrad for 10 years, trying to take the necessary prereqs peacemeal while working full time. I finally caved and went to a postbac program after killing my mcat (on the 3rd time), and applied incredibly broadly. I only got a single II, out of 37 applications, which ended in a waitlist, in part because the enormity of even getting an II (and it was at a pretty good, well established school) made me choke the day of the interview.

The thought of pulling together another round of applications is exhausting. The reason I tend to generally just lurk on these forums instead of posting is for all the reasons you pointed out. Thank you for sharing some of your frustration... It's really nice to actually feel like I'm not alone in how overwhelming this process can be.

oh, definitely. I am 33, so i think we are probably about same age. I can definitely relate to feeling age stressors, and stress of doing poorly on MCAT. the first three times i got close to 500. The fourth time - 511. my GPA is fine, but multiple mcat attempts really screwed me. yeah and i applied to 35 schools as well. It cost me about 5K. crazy..... when you are an applicant like you and me, and you look at traditional applicants, it can make you feel very inadequate. But you just have to shift your perspective, you know? we have been through much more stuff in life that applicants that are younger and we can use it in our advantage. So all the types of applicants can have their strength and weaknesses, you just have to realize what they are and use them to your advantage.

Set to retake the MCAT May 31st... would like to not! Good news from TMDSAS come soon!!
What a spot to be in! If you study your buns off and are prepared to get 100th percentile on the MCAT, you will definitely get off the WL 🙂 Keep your nose the grindstone and it will work out for the very best!

I need some opinion, I will be a poster regarding my research at a symposium in a few days. I was planning to update the medical schools regarding that. Is it a bad idea to attach a pdf of my poster as well? Or is that unprofessional/ unnecessary?

I remember I asked this exact question on here before and some faculty told me not to do that

I graduate on Monday. Hoping to get a graduation present very soon after 😀
