2019-2020 Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM-Colorado)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would just contact RVU and ask if there was an issue getting your letters!

If you have new letters to input then yeah I would do it through interfolio.
The letters showed up soon after I sent an email. Probably coincidence...I hope I dont look crazy lol

If you put them in AACOMAS after submitting your primary then they are automatically sent to all the schools you applied to. I had a late letter and all of the schools received it.

Alas, despite my awareness of the possibility, I couldn't help myself from warming up to the prospect of attending this school after receiving the II so early in the cycle (and the fact that it said >80% of interviewee's get accepted)

Some PROS I found about this school:

Residency placement is on point, perhaps the best I've seen from a DO school
Tuition is at market rate
Only DO school that actually posted the USMLE board score average (It was 220 in 2017) indicating transparency
Solid curriculum, non-mandatory attendance, lectures posted online about 10 min after lecture
COL pretty low
Dress code policy is not strictly enforced
6 weeks dedicated COMLEX and USMLE board prep
Requires USMLE for students and doesn't just turn a blind eye to the reality that most DO students should be taking it, like a lot of DO schools do

CONS:

"Lottery system" for rotations, upon rankings from the class (almost like an algorithm?)
Okay lets be real, 220 USMLE step 1 was below the mean of UNMATCHED students...
Altitude

Any current students want to chime in?

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the location of the school. It seemed to be a decent sized suburb along the outskirts of Denver. If I attend, I'd be moving with my wife, so location is a huge factor for me. Rent seems on the moderate to high end, but many of the apartments in the area seem nice and recently built.

Does anyone have any data on Step 1 scores and pass rates from 2018? I'd also love any input from current students about how rotation sites are delegated!

In the 2019-2020 RVU handbook it says attendance is mandatory. Heres the link of the PDF. Its under the "attendance" heading. http://www.rvu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/DO-NOT-SAVE-OVER_RVU_Catalog_Handbook_2019-2020.pdf

Really good list. Those board scores kinda scare me but as you said, their matches are very good. I visited the school a few years ago while visiting my uncle and it’s super nice! Denver is sweet too.

Does anyone know if this school is receptive to ITA letters? I’m going to be about an hour away in mid August for a wedding.

They may be, but the earliest date for interview is the 20th or 21st I think. I don’t think it can hurt to ask!

Post-secondary rejection with 3.4/3.4/514. FILEC 7/11/19, I think. First rejection of the cycle 🙁
Good luck to you all!! Looks like an amazing school.

With that mcat you’ll be okay! Good luck!!

How long are your essays? I think I'll be shooting for 2000-2500 characters for essays #3 - 5. I really don't know what I would write for #6.

I feel like I've been stuck with this status on my portal for awhile..... anyone else in the same boat? :eyebrow: I've seen others mention their letters showing up on their portal. Debating on reaching out to admissions.

My letters showed up in about a week in my portal. Don't think there's any harm in reaching out to the office.

Same here. Mine were on a long time ago then it should switch to “FILC” for file complete. I would reach out!

I am stuck here too... you and I submitted our app later than people go finished theirs earlier. I am sure they will tell you to wait but call.

As long as I'm not the only one experiencing this, I'm okay. I just didn't know if I was missing something and there was something that I needed to do. Thank you!

I got one of those last year with slightly higher stats. Honestly J think it’s yield protection so don’t beat yourself up.

Good luck guys. Colorado resident with 3.9 and 516 MCAT and got rejected pre interview last year. Hope t goes better for you all.
I'd bet money that you were rejected because of your MCAT. If this was really one of your top choices, then sorry man that sucks.

MCAT too low, or too high? :/
TOO HIGH. Someone already put this fancier above but basically they don't want to accept people that they think won't choose their school. It makes the school look bad when they send out a lot of acceptances and only a few people take them up on the offer. With such high stats, accepting him would have been a huge risk. But I think it's ridiculously unfair. What if RUVCOM was his first choice? He has earned a spot! I'm just hoping my 3.97 and 507 won't get me rejected. I think I'm safe thanks to CARS 🤣

The MCAT/GPA combo could have been yield protection (too high on both), but it could have also been a crappy app
I wouldn't say "crappy" but with those stats, if it wasn't just flat out screening, it was probably a failure to convince them RUVCOM was their first choice. If you have high stats, that should be your TOP priority!

RVU is huge on clinical work experience from what I hear, so that maybe could have been it too.
Had about 800 hours of clinical experience. Busted the school on a tour. Lol don’t know how I could have done more to convince them I was serious. Oh well... I don’t think it was a crappy app as I gained acceptances to 4 schools.

 we may never know... admissions is a black box sometimes

I've heard the same thing. Do you happen to have any sources though, or is it SDN hearsay?
I have heard from previous students, as well. One said 70% of the peeps he knew had worked in healthcare. But that is only the people he was aware of and was an estimate.

Haha thank you, it sounds like that could have been it for you but I don’t know that’s what it was for me because my GPA is not so good. It was my #2 choice DO but what can you do... I have 3000+ hours clinical work experience so I assume it wasn’t that.

Lucky you! You get to go somewhere other than Saint George’s University’s Colorado campus.

Look out for their email toward the end of the cycle asking you if you’d like to be considered for admission into SGU in Grenada.

Haha ya that email was a bit insulting.

So anyone here that has an II: have you made plans for where to stay? My interview is one month away

I am lucky enough to have high school friends in the area, but there are RVU hotel deals. The link is on the portal

Was anybody able to book at the Ramada for the rate RVU listed?

My portal page is completely different now. I can't see the status of my application anymore. Does this mean I was rejected?

I would assume no? My entire portal changed too, like even the background color. Previously it was yellow and mine said "no preference", but now it is grey and says "UT" at the top of my page. On the plus side, looks like I moved to FILEC, but it looks like I need to move to the other thread! I will miss you, Colorado people!
