2019-2020 Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM-Colorado)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What primary email address to voice concerns over the student portal did people use?? In my portal it says only the physician letter of rec was received, however, I submitted a committee letter through AACOMAS that had all my letters bundled......slightly confused.

Thanks @Cornfed101 am I the only one that has been on File Complete for around a month and still heard nothing back??? No rejection or interview update.

Keep in mind that apps are not reviewed in the order they are received. I don’t know how RVU does it, but adcoms on SDN have said that they order apps depending on various factors.

Give it time! No news is good news

A cursory search of previous years' threads seem to suggest that attendance is optional at RVUCOM, but I'd love to have this confirmed by a current student. Especially as the handbook does seem to state the opposite.
Attendance is only mandatory for labs and certain lectures that have a guest speaker or they want you there for a review lecture but they tell you ahead of time. All other lectures are recorded and posted right after the lecture ends. Current OSMI

Thank you! That's very relieving to hear. Just another quick question: for students with spouses/children, is this given consideration in the lottery to designate clinical sites?

They have a day where you can submit an extenuating circumstance for review. I'm sure kids would qualify but unsure about a spouse (I feel like a lot of people there would have one)

100+ volunteering, 75+ shadowing and I’ve worked as a medical scribe for a year

My cum gpa was abysmal compared to yours and my MCAT was a bit lower however I have had a lot more clinical experience. I guess they really do abide by the holistic review process and aren't stat-whoring themsleves out.

Don't be discouraged, it's very likely you will get in somewhere this cycle with your stats and EC's

Are people planning on renting a car for the interview? The airport is so far

I probably will be. I imagine Uber-ing around from the airport to school and back (and any additional excursions) would rack up costs quickly anyway. Might as well have the convenience.

Does anyone know if other schools typically schedule interviews on week days?
It's kind of hurting my work and employees for me to take two days off midweek.
How are you guys doing this with full time jobs?

Yes, I think most schools only have weekday interviews.

I am only taking 1 day off for each interview. With Rocky Vista, I am flying out on Thursday after work and then flying back late Friday night. I am doing a similar thing for my other interviews. I also have a full time job.

Yeah, I think almost all schools have weekday-only interviews, as I assume their staff is off on weekends. I'm also flying out after work the night before and flying back immediately after the interview.

I have two jobs so scheduling has been a pain, but fortunately my manager has been very accommodating and I have co-workers at my other job willing to cover some shifts if necessary.

I do have 1 Saturday interview so far, hopefully there are more out there

RVU last year was 70% men and 30% women, that is a really wierd gender ratio lol. Most schools now a days its 48% men and 52% women and this one is really off.

Hopefully this year this school has a more balanced ratio lol

Are you looking at RVU-SU? The CO campus usually hovers around 50/50. This incoming year is around there as well.

Almost certainly yield protection, as with your EC's/stats they likely expect you to have a few MD choices. And frankly, I expect the same for you too.

I have the same MCAT but GPA closer to their median.
RVU does not consider yield protection. Every file is reviewed in its entirety and evaluated for fit. There are candidates with strong numbers who do not spend time on their essay responses and are therefore denied. A lot goes into the process and as a result, a large number of the interviewed candidates are accepted. Just wanted to set the record straight 🙂

Very good to hear! Thank you for the clarification!

Hey guys- current second year here. Congrats on your interviews! Feel free to ask any questions or message me and I'll try to check periodically.

Also- since I noticed someone implied this previously and it was never answered. RVU does record lectures and VERY few lectures are required. Labs are obviously required, but lecture-wise it is thankfully recorded and only a small handful of times we "had" to go. They're very open to letting people learn how they learn best and not forcing you into lectures 🙂

RVU has a really big class. Have you liked that?

How many hours per week is OMM lab? A lot of people say the curriculum is brutal and thus people perform well on boards. Any truth to that? How stressed are you in the curriculum?

Huh. To be honest, I've never thought about it or noticed it. It doesn't feel that large to me. For labs, they split us into "group A" and "group B" and perhaps thats why it doesn't feel large, but I really like it. Most people also don't go to class so that might be why it doesn't seem like our class is super big. People are very friendly and it feels overall close-knit.

It's two hours a week + usually a 1 hour lecture. The curriculum is definitely intense. Given I haven't taken boards yet, I can't speak to it hardcore but I will say our classes have done a good job at following first aid so I'd gather that they're prepping us for boards pretty well.

Update on the portal - it now says, "AACOMAS Application" with a date of 6, August under Item. Anyone else's portal change? Did anyone who's received II's update as such?

I guess I was assigned to this campus! (Just basing this off the fact it says Applicant - CO)? I selected no preference but I was born and raised Utah so this was interesting. Congrats on the IIs guys!
