2019-2020 South Florida

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Have they assigned us a USFID to put down on the residency form? Not sure if I'm overlooking it.

I believe it can be left blank if you're not already in the USF system as a student or employee.

Well with the limited space, you might have to end up putting more emphasis on one of those components (such as education) and what has prepared you for that component. Perhaps acknowledging the interdisciplinary uniqueness of the field and how it inspires you?
I'm facing the same problem, but the more I read it, the more it sounds like you should list all, or multiple attributes and skills as it specifically asks for the plural form, not singular, in the question.

How are y'all answering the first question? Are you guys essentially listing the knoweldge and skills you learned from each EC, or are you focusing on one konwledge/skill you learned

M2 CORE student here, happy to answer any questions!

How did you decide between CORE and SELECT? How has CORE benefited you, and what are some cool things about CORE you didn't know about until you started the track?

Easy decision, I didn't want to move to PA after 2 years (not a fan of cold weather).

Both clinical rotation sites for CORE and SELECT are great but I had a preference for TGH and the other ones located in Tampa .

As for a cool thing, I think the scholarly concentrations program is great. SELECT doesn't necessarily have to get involved with that, but there are a bunch of different groups you can join and basically everyone can find something that interests them.

Essentially, I focused on a major EC of mine working in health policy. State what I walked away with from the experience, and then followed up with a brief description of what I have done and the skills I have acquired since. Closing with a brief statement about why these skills will serve as a foundation for the knowledge I need to successfully engage in health legislation as a future physicians.
Question, say I choose private practice because I'm thinking in terms of sports medicine or emergency medicine (both in hospitals - do not want to deal with administrative things), would I write about things that have prepared me for those 2 specialties specifically, or write more about private practice stuff. I'm a bit confused since when I think of private practice I think running your own practice, but I definitely do not want to do that, but EM and sports medicine seem to be most in tune with the private practice category.

Did you guys list in bullet format the skills developed or paragraph

For the diversity, how are you guys talking about how it will impact the field of medicine? I mean I have just one sentence on it and that’s a general sentence about how an inclusive environment leads to better patient care

You can make it about your interests and passions too, not just background diversity.

Could you please explain the international medicine concentration program and how it could be used? The online site is confusing me a little.

And could you please describe what the "Core and Select" is? Is it a combination of both? For OOS, should I pick "Select", or "Core and Select" to increase my chances of getting in?

I'm not 100% sure about the international medicine concentration program since I'm not in it but basically a scholarly concentration program is you meet with group 1-2 times a month and talk about research in that area and they help you hook up with mentors in that area. So if you're interested in doing research internationally then you'd probably join that one. They get a lot of opportunities for summer research internationally, especially, some people in my class went to Thailand this past summer i think. Core an select is just saying "please consider me for both" and will increase your chances technically of getting in. They'll pick you for whatever they feel like haha. Sorry for late reply!

Hey technical problem here. I fill out everything and the submit option is still grayed out not allowing me to pay and submit

Did you put “N/A” in text boxes where you didn’t have anything else to say?

Is anyone applying Early Decision? I am and I'm wondering when is the latest I can assign letters of recommendation on AMCAS.

"Describe your ideas about how the medical profession can best respond to disparities in healthcare."

Would you guys recommend writing this specific to the health disparities in Southern Florida? Or just overall?
I don't know if you ever decided about this question, but USF and Tampa are not actually considered "southern Florida." The Name University of South Florida is historic in its derivation... southern Florida/ South Florida are completely different locations, consisting of Dade, broward, palm beach counties. The southwest coast isn't even considered south Florida for the most part. Just don't want you to write something that may seem uninformed.

Did anyone ever receive a "complete" email? Residency form submitted (says 1/2, but I think 2 is optional).

do we have to fill out the residency form to receive an ii?

I didn't get one either. I submitted on 7/6 but didn't have my committee letter in until 7/24

Thanks! Hope you get some love soon!
Haha I do too. I was waiting on my undergrad's committee letter which was submitted about a week ago so hopefully I get some IIs in the next few weeks
