2019-2020 UT San Antonio (Long)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was complete 6/1, I guess this means earlyish apps have been passed up...?

Does anyone know about the Student-Run Social? I have my interview tomorrow, and I fly in tonight so I don't think I could make it to the social. Will this look poorly on me in any way?
It's optional and there wasn't even a sign in sheet at the social, so you're good!

I submitted July and never got a confirmation email. I even forgot that I had applied here because there is no secondary. Anyone else?

you turned in a CASPer test, right? have you been sent any notice of completion from your other TX schools?
UTSA requires you to take CASPer but dont need a score to interview as long as they know it was taken.

I just got a mass post-interview email saying that Long School of Medicine is light on pre-match acceptances and prefers to fill their class on February 1. That seems like good news for those waiting for an interview as there will be a good number of available spots until late in the cycle!

Do they wait until February to send acceptances to OOS students as well, since we don't participate in the match?

No, OOS applicants could hear about admission any time after October 15!

Corrected to reflect what @rtb43 shared below, that most of both IS and OOS will hear on Match Day

Here’s an excerpt from the email. I’m not sure why match timing seems to influence OOS decision timing for many people but it seems they’ve had some success on their end with this.

“Some Out of Staters have asked about offers of acceptance and our timeline. We aim to fully form our class every year during the TMDSAS Match on Feb 1. So, as you see below as well, we are light on Pre-Match Offers of acceptance and that would apply to Out of State Students as well.”

Thanks for sharing this, @rtb43 . This makes sense now that they have reaffirmed their plan to fill most at Match time.

I was complete end of May, and I got my II just about a few days ago, so I wouldn't overstress about analyzing the chronology!
Would you mind saying if your interview date was set for Mid October, Late October, Early November or Late November just curious to see how far they are along the timeline. 🙂

Hey guys! I am a pre-med here. Just wanted to jump in and ask that I am planning on taking a lot of my medical school pre-requisites at Northwest Vista College (a highly-ranked Texas CC). If I keep a good GPA and MCAT, etc., would that matter much?

Can any student who has matriculated into UTHSCSA Long School of Medicine (one of my dream schools) tell me if they took classes at a CC and how it all worked out for LSOM? Thank you!

Hi Alivation, I took quite a few post-bacc CC classes for my pre-reqs and am now an MS1 at UTHSCSA (I also know a few other people in my class who've taken pre-reqs at a CC so it's definitely possible). Of course, ensure you earn a high GPA and score well on the MCAT. IMO, the MCAT score is especially important if you take your pre-reqs at a CC since they want to know that you understand the fundamental sciences and can test well on a standardized exam - we'll all have to take Step 1 afterall.
I think I remember being asked why I took my post-bacc courses at a CC over a traditional 4 year university so I would recommend having an answer prepared for that in case any school asks about it.

Primary transmitted 5/15
LM 75
Still haven't heard back. Any realistic chance at a II at this point?

At this school in particular my interviewer went through my application while asking questions about it. So really knowing your application was important in this case.

the interview had a lot of “tell me about a time...” questions so i would prepare for those behavioral inteeview questions. try coming up with stories where you have displayed leadership, working in a team, overcoming a challenge, etc.

can anyone advise me on how to prepare for interview?

Prepare a LOT of questions. One of my interviewers was a student, and it was basically like an informational interview. Other interviewees ended up having the same experience. That being said, sometimes it felt more like I was the one interviewing the M4 haha. I was probably only asked one question... "what do you do for fun?" The other interview was just like a normal med school interview & it was open file, so of course know your app.

Thank you, sir. I got it. Yes, my situation is a bit different since I’ve started my undergrad career at a CC. But yeah, definitely, the answer must be the price of a CC. Thank you; hopefully, I will keep the highest possible GPA and will score great on the MCAT.

Thanks. UT Health is a very decent school and I’m pretty sure they’re now very open to the CC idea. How’s your experience at Long SOM going so far?

But most of my pre-reqs will be done before University (some will be left for Uni, including Organic Chems and Biochem).

Because they said almost all their admission offers would be made on Match Day, Feb 3.
On their website they said OOS offers can be sent starting Oct 15, but the majority are sent after Match.
