2019-2020 Western University of Health Sciences (Lebanon, Oregon)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received another email this morning stating "WesternU App Still with Committee" ie (still under review) lol. Does anyone actually get an II after this? I feel like they are putting me on hold and waiting for all those future apps to roll in ...

Two current students said typically 50 percent earlier on and maybe slightly higher. As the cycle goes on it’s 30% I was told.
That's a little reassuring. Do you remember when they said we would start hearing back?

my friends told me they all found out in 2 weeks but I believe we may a bit sooner. They meet Thursday to discuss and then have to wait to talk to the Dean.

I hope so..waiting is the hardest part.

Just checked my portal and got the II! First II ever as a reapplicant so I am very excited! For those curious my LizzyM is around 60-65 and OOS if that makes any difference.
OOS where if you don't mind me asking? And MCAT score if you are willing to share?

Just found out I got an interview invite who knows how long ago - they never emailed me or anything. I had to pick a way later interview date. Check your portals!!

Can someone instruct me on how the heck to get to this school?
Easiest way if you’re OOS is to fly into Portland, rent a car, and drive south on I-5. Take Hwy 20 to Lebanon and you can’t miss it...it’s right on the north edge of town.

Thanks! I have no money. I heard AAA waives the under 25 fee for rental cars, I'll look into it.

II this morning! OOS and I was complete on 8/12.....after a mishap with one of my LOR. I submitted 7/14 and CASper received 8/2.

Has your status changed in the portal?
Not sure exactly where to look but I see no changes in my portal! They have multiple people calling interviewees so I am sure all throughout today people will be hearing.

If I wasn't flying to Pomona in an hour I would go see "It 2" I heard that it was really good.

I'll try to be patient lol.

Your favorite! That’s awesome. How many of the 14 interviews have you gone on?
Yeah, I just got that "at home" feeling when I was there (something I didn't feel at the other programs.) Probably was why I was so nervous in the interview. I'm heading to my 5th one today. I've declined 4 so far.

Best of luck to all of us!!!

Well, heck. Still no portal update for me but no call. Not sure if this means I'm receiving a rejection tonight or if they're doing things slowly.

Edit: Just got placed on alternate list. Man, this happened for Western Pomona last night too.

For Western Lebanon I have pretty high stats, and I felt I was legitimately kind and likeable during the interview, as well as handled the MMI pretty well. I don't know whether they're yield protecting because I might get into an MD school, or if somehow I'm screwing up interviews without realizing 🙁

No one called me, but I did check my portal and got in! Does anyone know how long we have to respond to the offer?

Accepted! July something is the deadline but there are two non-refundable 1000 deposits in December and July.

Ok...so I went on-line and there is an option that says....Accept this offer? Does that mean "Yes I am interested and will make the deposit by the deadline, but are not fully committed yet (I do want to keep my options open)? Sorry, my first acceptance and quite nervous/excited!!! 🙂 Also,I can't find the deposit deadlines....with the deposit being non-refundable, I would like to wait for as long as I can! What are we required to do?

You have until December before you have to make your first but personally I’m waiting until the packet shows up before I even touch that button.

congrats to everyone who already got accepted! all my items in my portal are green checkmarks but i haven't gotten a complete or in review email... how long does that take? i received&submitted my secondary on 9/6

It really depends on your stats, time submitted, and how many interviews they offered. I submitted mine in August 6 ish and got my interview maybe a week later. It really depends but worst case, if it doesn’t work out, apply early will really make a difference. Regardless, good luck!

thank you! can i ask your stats if you don't mind?

Hey everyone! Current student here. I know this is a long and nerve-racking process, so let me know if you ever have any questions about Lebanon, the school, or just medical school itself. I’ll do my best to answer.

Good luck!!
Hi!
Thank you for answering questions for us! Are you originally from the area? What do you enjoy about the community? Also, have you been able to participate in student-run clinics and, if so, how has that been? Sorry for the barrage of questions :dead:

No worries!
I am originally from this general area so I can answer questions about things to do and such if you have any. In general though there’s plenty of hikes and some good breweries if either of those are your thing. Then you have Corvallis close by (college town) and Salem/Portland north with bend to the east for skiing/snowboarding. Lebanon is kinda central for stuff like that!

Community wise I think one of my favorite things is that the community is SUPER supportive of the school. When people find out your a medical student a lot of people get really excited. Some of the shops will give discounts and such. They are really proud to have us.

And student run clinics! So we have a free clinic in Lebanon you can get involved in first year. First years do vitals and help fill out paperwork and then second years actually see the patients and present their plan to the attending. I’m not going to lie, since so many people are interested in it you only get a couple shifts max a year but I’m fairly certain they just opened up a new clinic in Portland so theoretically we may be able to get up there. I’m not 100% sure on that.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

For people who went to the night before pre interview thing, did you guys wear a suit? (I know it's a stupid question but I don't wanna show up in a suit if it's a casual event).

I would suggest definitely not a suit. I would either go business casual or somewhere in-between business casual and actual casual. It's basically just you and the med students, plus one person who works in the admissions office that is super nice and helps to facilitate the event. So, don't think about it too much.

Sorry for the late reply. I got a 508 on the mcat and a 3.7 gpa with my science gpa greater. I wouldn’t stress too much about it tbh. We’re all different applicants but if you do want to worry, work on your weakest part of your app. If you get in, then stop but if you don’t you’ll be that much closer to getting in. Regardless good luck
