Quick question regarding the achievement section in the secondary. If I have 2 papers, one that will be submitted in the next week and the other submitted/currently under review, can I list them? Both of these papers are a really big personal achievements, especially if they are obviously accepted.

I think the consensus will be to wait until they are accepted (cross your fingers)

Ya I'm debating whether or not it's worth doing. Like I doubt they'll understand or care enough to read about my research since it's sorta complicated.
I’d say it likely will not add to your application. I have several pubs (from my PhD) and I figured if they were really curious they could look them up, so I didn’t upload anything.

Bulletpoint accomplishments, YES, abstracts - NO

MSTP peers, did you include any non-research positions in the "Academic and Research Positions" section? Tutoring, etc?

If we answered the Institutional Action question yes on the primary (was placed on academic probation freshman year for GPA below a certain cutoff), do we answer the question below yes as well? The thrust of this question seems a lot more serious.

"Have you been subjected to disciplinary action by any college or university? Have you been convicted of a criminal offense? Are there disciplinary or criminal charges pending against you?"

Bump for this question... anyone have input?

The only thing I included in this section were my research positions (both volunteer and paid) and my fellowship that directly ties to the PhD program I am interested in. If it doesnt have to do with research or your grad program of interest, I would probably abstain.

FYI for those with II's, they have student host options! In case anyone is like me and didn't realize that as they were figuring out hotels etc. Found it before it was too late luckily lol

They do a good job. A few years ago they cancelled them and put up everyone in hotels due a bed bug issue in the dorms.

For the student host options, it looks like the guarantee you a host for the night before the interview. Does anyone know how likely it is that they can offer you a second night for the night after your interview? I'll be flying in but there aren't any flights out of New Haven until the next day

I'll also likely be flying out after a second night most likely. Hope that can worked with!

Most people fly through Hartford or LGA to get to new haven. Lots of flights.

Is it worth sending a secondary here if I'm 24 days late? I messed up on the dates and I'm feeling so bad rn. Should I save my $100 and focus on the secondaries where I'm still well within the 2 week deadline?

There is no 2 weeks deadline. I doubt it would affect your application at all. Definitely worth submitting. Good luck!

There is no two week deadline. The deadline is not for a few months. Review the admissions website for the school.

would a hobby be appropriate to discuss in the optional section? also, how close are you guys to 500 words for the essay questions?

If it is significant and genuine then yes. My essays were > 450 words, but just write what you need. Good luck!

Can I ask how far out your II's are allowing you to schedule your interviews?
Heavily depends on the school. If you’re asking about Yale specifically, I haven’t gotten an II.

Is the achievements and distinctions section just for awards and publications?

"Research is essential to patient care, and all students at Yale School of Medicine complete a research thesis. Tell us how your research interests, skills and experiences would contribute to scholarship at Yale School of Medicine."

I already wrote about my research a good deal in my primary, so for this do they want us to research Yale labs and find one that would be a good fit or something? Kinda confused what type of response they are looking for here. What did y'all write about?
I wrote about the research I did in undergrad and during my gap year, the ways I hope to apply my research in my future career, and how Yale would help me achieve those goals. I did name a couple labs that I thought would be a good fit when talking about how I hoped to participate in research at Yale, but they weren't the overall focus of the essay. I think it's okay to repeat stuff from your primary as long as you're tailoring it to the specific school. Hope that helped!
