I would say end of Dec tbh, which doesn't do that much. On their website, they are finished conducting interviews in Jan and it seems as if they are sending II/doing interviews in 2 week chunks. I heard that one way they are addressing covid is more interview days as a whole but I dont think they will extend the season that much

Do they send any Rs? or if we haven't heard anything since july, assume we got the L?

We definitely can't assume anything yet lol (although tbh I've been expecting the R from HMS since sending in my application); I'm still just hearing back from schools where I was complete in July. It's a long cycle

On Canvas, they say that the entering class was 168 last year out of 798 interviewees. The yield at HMS is pretty high, mededits.com estimates that 235 were accepted (and 168 matriculated) last year.
Post II acceptance rate of abt ~30% I think

thank you🙂

Anyone know what kinda updates Harvard allows?

There’s a podcast called All Access med school with an episode with the dean at Harvard Med. It’s 1h30 but you don’t have to listen to all of it, there’s a whole part about what she thinks are relevant updates and how it works. Might be better to hear what the dean of admissions says about this

After submitting secondary- does HMS give a complete email?

Thanks so much! Also, I submitted my secondary last night. Am I at a disadvantage?

You're welcome! November is definitely on the later side of the cycle, so it's likely tougher to get an interview with this later submission. It's still possible to get an interview, but it depends on your application and the admissions officers.

I don't think you are explicitly at a disadvantage but rather people tend to become less unique as reviewers spend more time with apps. Just cause humans are reviewing, stats become less impressive, premeds tend to do the same things and it really takes something special for Harvard to give that II. I will say that for Harvard, timing is less important cause they can choose from the cream of the crop (not just statswise). There are people who sent their apps in July that aren't going to get II and some people who may send them now, whose story really sticks with reviewers. Its not gonna be when you sent your app that will not get you the II, especially from Harvard.

I do know in last years thread, I think someone mentioned that there seemed to be an observation between early interviewees and acceptances but I dont think Harvard looks at timing to gauge interest. Its Harvard.

Do you guys know if rejected for the MD PHD program do we still get considered for the MD program? And will we find out earlier than march or does every decision come out in march?

Because it looks like the people that get rejected from MD-PHD get an interview for pathways but I just wanted to clarify.

I think how it works is if any of the three possible factions choose to interview you - Pathways, HST, and MD/PhD - they jet your app off to the other two to see if they're also interested. Then they invite you to interview! So for those who got the Pathways interview but not MD/PhD, it was probably that Pathways wanted to interview them, sent it off to HST and/or MD/PhD, and the MD/PhD chose not to interview == rejection.

If none of the three want to interview you by late January, I think we'll get the R in the pre-II R group in late January that was mentioned earlier in the thread? I'm mostly guessing at this point because there was speculation that the only people getting MD/PhD Rs were the ones also getting IIs in HST or Pathways.

I looked at past years' threads earlier and it looks like this has been ~the harvard way~ for MD/PhD while, so methinks @wpneuro is spot-on.

Hi, if one gets invited for MD/PhD, does he/she automatically get an HST and Pathways invite as well? And if one attends all three interviews and is yet rejected by the MD/PhD, does that mean he/she is rejected at HST and Pathways as well? Or is it possible to get rejected at MD/PhD but get into one of the MDs, assuming the interview went well enough.

I think they are all separate committees so each one shouldn't affect the other. Even if you get rejected from MD/PhD, you can still get an A from the others. Since each path emphasizes different things, it makes sense for them to be separate.

For those who recently got IIs - what interview dates are currently being scheduled?

For MSTP, has Harvard sent out II for the December/January interview dates?

Im applying for MSTP and complete early sept....complete silence.

Applying MSTP here as well and I've been complete since late July, silence as well 😆 Pre-II Rs won't come until January so at this point it's just waiting until then, probably... Not many MSTP IIs have been reported here, tbh so it's all up in the air.

Does anyone know what the student culture is like at Harvard? I'm assuming it's competitive but hoping it's collaborative!
