Struggling to decide if I should deposit... was accepted to the Joplin campus but I had preferred KC. Anyone else in a similar boat? I also already deposited at TUNCOM but I believe KCU is a much better school overall. Not sure which one to choose.
So you put down that you would prefer to be on the KC campus on your primary application but still got accepted to Joplin campus?

Yes I think so. After I was accepted it changed my campus placement to "no preference"
I could be mistaken... but I'm pretty sure I originally picked Kansas City.

So if we put we wanted Kansas City campus on the primary on aacomas and got accepted it means we only got accepted into the kansas city campus correct?

it tells you in the acceptance email which campus you were accepted into

Also just got admitted into KC campus, but put NO preference in my AACOMAS application. Interviewed 11/13. I honestly didn't even noticed that the campus placement was on the email I received this morning until I check here......

So we know that 11/13 interviewees are accepted 12/14, so there is a three week interval (excluding Thanksgiving).
And we early December folks may actually hear from KCU in 2020 if the three week thing also holds for us!

Lets pray man! I think they close on the 21st?

i put no preference and got KC. but always I'm from a big city so it makes sense that they put me here
Were you interviewed by staff/faculty from KC or both KC and Joplin? I was interviewed by staff and faculty from Joplin only so I was just curious if I would be considered for the Joplin campus only.

Mine was KC only (if I remembered correctly). Still waiting on results though.
Edit: Didn't think that would be a huge impact as I thought it's randomly assigned.

You thought that admissions committee randomly decides your location, even after they ask in the seconday?

Can a student that currently attends the KC campus give a general timeline of when they started looking for apartments? When they moved down there etc

You can start looking online whenever you want, I made a list of places I liked in April/May, flew to KC in mid June for about a week to look at places in person and sign a lease that started in early July a few days before orientation started

I started looking in april, made a list, and called the places to set up appointments - COVID made things hectic but it won't be a problem for y'all. drove down twice in may to tour at l like 8-10 apartments, signed my contract in June or something, and i moved down like two weeks before school started because we had to quarantine here for 14 days so like july 8-9 or somewhere around that time.

i interviewed last year but i chose the KC campus to interview at because of my work schedule and the dates. I didn't really care which campus i interviewed at but it just so happened that the time and date fit with my work schedule.

Any chance anyone has any insight on the dates for orientation?

This year's orientation started on July 13th and went to July 24th with the first day of classes on July 27th just for reference! Not sure about this upcoming year but I'm sure it will follow a similar timeline!

That does sound hectic, thanks for sharing. Also, I’m more convinced each day that the class of 2024 will be made of pure steel after all this, thanks again 🙂

Anyone give me their recommendation - sub 500 mcat but my physician LOR went here, I haven’t applied here because I thought I would just get screened out but I was thinking about just yoloing and kinda tight on money rn :/

Oof, I wouldn’t apply here at this point in time.

Edit: someone might give you the “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” cliché, but it’s really too late, especially for someone with a lower MCAT. PLEASE save your money!

I agree with the above poster. i would study to retake the mcat again early to mid next year and reapply with a strong score. even with an early app next year, you still run the risk of getting screened out.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure who's from which campus when I interviewed. I just remember maybe 2 of my interviewer where from KC Campus. I was thinking about Joplin because of lower of COA, but I would take either. That's why I didn't put preference in my primary.

Hey I have a question about clerkships. During the interview it was mentioned during 4th year we can go anywhere esp the places we want to do residency in. Is that true? Or does it have to be within the core sites listed on the website?

Thats true for all medical schools, during 4th year you will do audition rotations/sub-i's anywhere you want to do your residency

i'm pretty sure cost of attendance is the same for both schools. tuitions don't change. different campuses but they're 1 institution.

If you apply this late with a sub 500 MCAT you're going to get recommended to apply to their COB masters program fyi. I'd save your money unless you're really interested in that.

The COA as stated by the school might be the same, but the cost of living (rent) in Joplin is lower than in KC
ah very true, i thought they were just talking about the cost of attendance. KC is more expensive than JOP but in general, it's probably one of the cheapest places to live in the US sadly lmao 🤐

I have a buddy in Joplin and he pays about as much as I do for rent! Of course there are other factors but north KC is pretty cheap in terms of CoL, the biggest plus side is the city always has something to do for relatively little cost (or as high as you're willing to go). That's if you don't mind living a little outside of the city in the suburbs/surrounding communities, of course it's more expensive the closer to the city you are.
