For those students attending from out of state that didn't have a car, how did you get around to buy necessities such as food and persona hygiene things? And how far did you live from campus?

Joplin you really need a car. Public transit is not much of a thing. There is Uber and Lyft though.

So a bike (bicycle) or public transit isn't going to work out?
public transit is also somewhat nonexistent in KC. never tried it but it probably would take an hour to get to campus when normally it would take me 10 minutes lmao.

It could, but it's going to be pretty challenging to get around. If you can't have a car, living across the street at CT is your best option. There's an Aldi within walking distance for groceries. I guess you can just Lyft/Uber/carpool with a friend for other errands you have to do. There's also a few places to eat that's walking distance east of the school, but I'd be careful when walking in that area since it really isn't the best neighborhood.

You'll definitely need a car for rotations though, so if it's an option at all for you I think it's worth it to just get a car now (plus it can last until residency).

Same, I wouldn't want to be in KC without a car
I figured as much, but do you know any classmates who didn't have a car that utilized other means? Also, does KC still have Uber/Lyft? I'm planning on staying only 2 years (close to campus) and having/leasing a car seems quite the expense. 3rd Year i'm trying to go to Cali then set up rotations back home for 4th.

I am from Florida, so any amount of snow is a ton of snow for me, so yes there are blizzards throughout winter (usually about 0.5-2 inches of snow that lasts for like 3 days lol)
Haha .5-2 inches is nothing for me ! I’m used to getting up to a foot in some snowstorms so that’ll be an upgrade for sure

Ya I Uber/lift to the airport or bars and stuff all the time (pre Covid). But everyone I know has a car

During the interview some students talked about being an Anatomy Fellow. Can any current student elaborate on this - worth it, benefits, etc?

It happens after 2nd year. It's a 1 year fellowship and then you continue on into 3rd year after that fellowship. I think you get a stipend plus you get tuition paid for for that year and the following year. You also get some research pubs from it as well. A lot of people do it so they can match up with their SO for residency timelines, others do it so they can have a year to kinda chill; it's apparently very chill.

If I recall properly, KCUMB said that during 4th year you can set up rotation sites that are not on the list. For example: I come from Hawai'i and I believe they said we could work something out back home. Anyone can confirm that for me?

4th year is all on your own. That's when you set up your audition rotations. So yeah, you could go back to Hawaii 4th year. You can also set up an "independent core site" for 3rd year if you want to go back earlier.

I just heard that for 3rd year it was recently offered so there is the chance that it won't be available when I get to that point... right? T^T

Independent core site? I feel like that it has always been around but im not positive about that. I haven't heard of them thinking about doing away with it or anything

Thank you! So medical school technically becomes 5 years? E.g. 1-2 year med, anatomy fellow year, 3-4 clinical rotation years?

Anyone here lease a car? or can recommend some options. I don't plan on buying because I intend to just do 2 years didactic there.

You can also choose to apply for the anatomy fellowship after 3rd year as well so between 2nd and 3rd or between 3rd and 4th years. I think the stipend is like 30k+ and you get the next year after free tuition.

Same, from the Rocky Mountains so hearing 2 inches in 3 days described as a blizzard made me lol. Half the reason I want to come to KCU is for the mild weather.

Hey all - I was accepted 11/6 (woo!) but I still haven't received an official acceptance letter in the mail. Anyone else in that boat?

I was accepted a week after and same. However I don’t think they’re sending snail mail. Especially due to covid

Accepted early December and no snail mail for me, either. Only communication was via email.

I think they mentioned they do send snail mail, but expect it suuuper late especially they only come onto campus once every now and then. They did say if for some reason you really need the snail mail then contact them!

Anyone else have to wait awhile to get added into the KCU FB group?
Some speculate because admin is on break and they don't get back until the 15th or something? Of course that doesn't make sense since it is all online haha... Who knows

Very low. Based on last year thread, we will probably hear back around mid-January.
Well find out 7pm est 🙂
