2020-2021 Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine (RVUCOM-Colorado)

If it's true that schools do this, I think that's unfair, especially to someone who has a DO letter and demonstrated desire to be there. No one should be punished for a high MCAT. They never know who considers their school a top choice. :/
I 100% agree with you, the range of MCAT's that schools will accept usually doesn't drastically change because I suppose they accept those that are close to their median range, some outliers might affect it (which sucks so badly but I've heard this from a few school threads)

I just got an e-mail from them saying they evaluated my app and is continuing its consideration of my app for the class of 2021. It wasnt interview invite or anything, im just wondering why they sent this??? Interview waitlist?

I cannot say for sure, but it sounds like maybe it is a "don't worry we haven't forgotten about you". They may be pushing through the first round of interviews and then will get back to inviting another round and do not want you to freak out about not hearing from them yet.

Hopefully your interview invite is on it's way soon!

They screen REALLY hard. Like my II essentially was like "we know this process sucks, so giving you this means we really like your app and we accept 80% of our post interviewees." It's probably just telling you that they're going to consider you for the second wave. Idk when the end of the first wave is, but mines Wednesday, so I figure in Sept sometime.

Just got off a call with RVU admissions so I thought I'd post some highlights. They said they are not considering MCAT scores at all this year. They also stated that they do not count hospital volunteering as clinical experience. They want to see clinical experiences where you have taken vitals/collected patient histories. For non-trads, they also like to see at least 9 credit hours taken within the last two years. Just in case this info is helpful to anyone else applying! All the best!

Woah no MCAT at all??? What the heck! So just GPA? That’s INSANE.

Hey guys, first year RVU-CO student here. Things are weird with covid... but I can try to answer any questions you have. Good luck this cycle!

Say what??? I wonder if this is really true! Like when they see my MCAT score, do they try not to make it have influence on their admissions decision? Sounds hard to do lol

I don’t think the interviewers have access to your academics anyways so you might never need to address it.

How was the interviewing process? Mines Wednesday!

Well mine was in person so that’s a little different, but you should expect a small 2 on 1 interview if the format is the same. It was pretty laid back and if you get to the interview stage, especially this early, you have a very good chance of being accepted. It was a pretty standard interview format with questions you would expect. Why medicine, why DO, talk about clinical experiences, stuff like that

Yeah thats true... I first need to get an II haha. hopefully they aren't considering MCAT scores even when it comes to extending an II...

He said they’re not looking at MCAT at all for interviews or acceptances I think
Wow... And this whole time I was wondering why the guy with the 515 got rejected and not me... maybe this is the answer to many of our questions on how they are going about applications

Sweet thanks!

Just FYI I had a 516 on the MCAT so RVU definitely doesn’t screen for high MCAT, when they do look at it... weird times we are in

Oh yeah definitely. Thats an awesome MCAT score btw! I just meant that no matter the MCAT score, its just a hit or miss dependent on the overall app and GPA's, especially for this cycle where they are supposedly disregarding all MCAT scores

Do you mind sharing stats, IS/OOS?

Also, after paying the supplemental fee, were you ever sent a "complete" email?

OOS, my stats are pretty much the average for matriculation of their class with good EC... Pretty sure it has something to do with my response questions lol... I did NOT put the effort I should have into them... I kind of just rushed and didn't treat it like I treated all my other secondaries... Oh well 😛

OMGoodness SAME. Now looking back, my secondary responses for other schools are SO much better than RVU and DMU.

OH MY GOODNESS. I just decided to look back at my AACOMAS to read my responses and realized I didn't answer one prompt!!

Has this ever happened to anyone? Does anyone know if adcom would allow me to send my response via email?

Uhhhh, I would email and see if they're gonna accept it. They might not even accept it tho.

Doesn't it require you to answer them all before you submit? Or are you talking about the optional one?

SEA (Students for Ethical Admissions) confirmed that RVU is NOT requiring the MCAT for admissions this year due to COVID. Hopefully good news for some of you. Good luck to all those applying this cycle!

Is anyone interviewing today? I’ll be sure to report back tomorrow after mine.
Interview completed! I think it went well, 2 on 1 and they have what you have written (PS, COVID, 2°s). No curveball questions or anything. We had about 40 minutes for the interview with a brief welcome from admissions and the interviewers beforehand. They based most of the questions off of the information that I had written and experiences.

Sweet! So it was pretty chill? Did they say when they’d have responses?

Do you think applying here this late is a disadvantage? I had a death in the family that side tracked me quite a bit from applications, but was hoping to apply here!
3.89 cGPA 3.85 sGPA 503 MCAT

Yeah! They don’t require MCAT this cycle!

For those of you who received interview invites, did you have DO shadowing experience or a letter of rec from a DO? I'm very worried because I don't have either, however I did submit an MD letter of rec. I was supposed to shadow a DO in march and April but it all got cancelled due to COVID 🙁

I have a DO letter and like 12 hours of shadowing but I have over 2000 clinical.

Yeah pretty chill and this is taken from the closing video page "RVUCOM does two weeks of interviews and then the admissions committee meets the Friday of the third week. Those who are accepted can expect to hear from us a few days after the admissions committee meets." So hopefully with this round of interviews we can expect results by the second week of September I would assume.

Dang awesome. Okay. That’s good news!

I didn’t have either DO shadowing or a DO LOR. Clinical experience is more important

For those without clinical experience: Don't forget that you can update your application and/or manually send updates. Go to a testing site, ask for a role, even if it's just as the temp taker person! You'll be fulfilling the requirement and doing your country a service! Just an idea.

where can you send updates/update your application?

Hello! Can you tell us more abt ur experience and Rocky Vista and what you like or do not like about the school? Thanks!

Hello! Can you tell us more abt ur experience and Rocky Vista and what you like or do not like about the school? Thanks!

Let me start by saying that Covid affects nearly every aspect of school, as you would expect. We only have 2 things on campus per week and that is Principles of Clinical Medicine (PCM), which is basically our class on doctor stuff: taking histories, doing physicals, etc., and Osteopathic Principles and Practices (OPP), which is where we learn OMM/OMT. I haven't been able to meet many of my classmates, which sucks, but that's the same for med students across the country. We aren't doing any anatomy dissections, but we are instead watching live zoom labs of the anatomy fellows in the cadaver lab. This is pretty tough for a kinesthetic learner like myself, but I am getting by.

Specific to RVU I really like our professors and they do a good job given the circumstances. It has been a little difficult to get involved in anything up to this point, but I hope that will become easier with time, and as soon as musculoskeletal system is done (2 more weeks!). I wouldn't say there is anything specifically that I don't like about RVU though. It is a great school in a strange situation. Hopefully, virtual interviews aren't too painful. We just had our first standardized patient and it was a telehealth visit... will have to get used to those

Is there a separate secondary application than the one that is a part of the AACOMAS application? I was confused by what they meant on their website regarding the supplemental application. My AACOMAS was verified 8/17 but I haven't received anything from RVUCOM yet.

I submitted the primary around July 4th. Received secondary about 3 weeks later. Definitely a second email with a link to a secondary application. Have not heard from the school since end of July.

The secondary application automatically populated into your AACOMAS primary application when you selected RVU. Those supplemental questions you answered comprised the school's secondary application. The only e-mail you will receive from RVU (if you pass GPA screening) is a link to pay the secondary application fee. There are no other questions to answer. They also mention that they will NOT notify you when your file is marked complete and ready for review. You will have to check on that periodically by logging into your MyVista account. Hope that helps and good luck!

Good to know! I was not looking forward to writing more essays. Thank you for clarifying!
