2022-2023 Meharry

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What do we put for the "Select Term" option on the secondary application? I thought the program started in the summer of 2023, but I don't see that option.
It’s technically Fall 2023, so that’ll be the term you select.
On the Application History section of the secondary, under "Prior Medical School" what does Type of Application, Previous Years, and Most Recent Disposition mean?
I believe that is referring to previous applications to medical school. You would fill that out if you are a reapplicant

How long after turning in secondary typically does one get the II?
I turned in my secondary 2 weeks ago, and I got an interview from them last week. I had a one week turn around time but n=1 and I’m sure it’s different based on the individual and the app they bring

Great, thanks. Do you happen to know what "Most Recent Disposition" is referring to? And is "Type of Application" like MD or DO?

What are your stats? (if you don't mind me asking)

I’m not sure about the “Most Recent Disposition” but I think the type of application refers to ED, RD, regular MD, or one of their combined programs like MD/PhD if you’ve applied for those in the past. It would be a good idea to contact them and verify that though

I wish! I only interviewed on Monday.

On another note, I am spending hundreds of dollars to hold a seat in a couple local daycares in case I get the acceptance. Pray it’s not in vain…
I pray you get your acceptance soon. I’m a new mom and haven’t thought about that yet. But I haven’t heard anything from any school I applied to. So hopefully will figure that out as I know more about my chances this cycle.

Thank you. Pray the II come through for you soon. This process is hard.

Feel free to DM me when you start looking. I’ve spoken to or emailed about a dozen daycares in the 20 mile radius of the school, lol . It’s between $100-$150 to hold a seat depending on the facility and one place told me they wouldn’t have availability till Aug.

Ok, thanks for the info. Will DM you once I start looking.

Do I need to have Casper ready to be looked at for interview

I did not have an MMI interview though, Only traditional, should i be worried??
Short answer: no

Long answer:
Current MS1 at Meharry. Just dropping a few insights about Meharry since I know their application process can be stressful.

1. Meharry has a small Admissons office, and they also look at each applicant holistically which means their application cycle runs late. A couple of people each year will still be accepted up until the first week of classes.

2. Applications are screened but it’s not just based on stats. No one knows the specific criteria but not everyone will get a secondary. There have been people with high MCAT scores that haven’t gotten a secondary from Meharry because their app didn’t fit the school. There have been people with low MCAT scores that did get one because their app fit the school. Everything they do is holistic.

3. Try not to stress. Meharry usually doesn’t give specific updates about applications but you will receive an email when they’re considering you. Check the spam folder of your email to make sure you don’t miss any or whitelist their admissions email. The portal is the site showing your submitted secondary. The portal will only be updated to show a decision letter from the school (acceptance). Rejections, secondaries, acceptances, and II will all be sent via email. If you’ve interviewed then check your portal periodically. Sometimes the decision will be there before you get an acceptance email because they just haven’t gotten around to sending the emails yet.

4. Don’t put any concern into when you applied, got a secondary, interviewed, or received certain/different emails vs someone else. None of it matters. Some people will apply early and get accepted later than other who interviewed after them. It’s part of the holistic process. If you haven’t received a rejection you’re still in the running. I applied early in July, interviewed in September and didn’t get accepted until April.

5. Meharry typically does 1 interview with a single faculty member. Anything else may be something new they’re trying this application year. Don’t expect a second one, they can be a bit disorganized so if they tell you you’re fine and don’t need to do anything further then you’re good. If you’ve had your interview then try to relax and wait for a decision because stressing won’t help anything.

Does anyone know when the secondary application deadline is after a secondary invitation is sent to us? I couldn't find any information online. Thanks!

My MMI interviewer told me this. She also stated there would be another “student interview” after my traditional format interview which was Friday. Tbh, I’m not sure everybody is on the same page. My interviewer from my traditional format interview stated that I should “receive a decision fairly quickly” as opposed to the 12/15 date I was told originally. She didn’t mention any student interview. So idk. If it means anything, MMI interviewer for me was a dean and my traditional format was a faculty member.

When were you complete?

So I know there's no word limit... so how hard is everyone going on these questions?

Im an ORM OOS, is it worth it to submit?
As someone who was interviewed, I can tell you that if you looked at my application and Meharry's mission, you can literally check off each box. They need to see that your extracurriculars, research, and clinical experience mirrors their values. SDN members with high stats (black included) are not offered secondaries at this school, so the only conclusion I can come up with is that they don't feel like these people have anything substantial to contribute toward their mission.

Also, to my knowledge, they do not have any regional bias. I'm OOS.

how long was the first interview? did they email you about the second interview before the first interview?
The MMI interview was only 30 minutes, but the actual MMI questions themselves took about 15 minutes (only two questions), and the rest of the time was just talking and chatting about the school/Nashville. On the day of my MMI, I received an email about the second interview. I thought it was a fluke, so I asked during my MMI interview if the second email was, in fact, for a second interview portion, which it was.

Is there a typical trend for how long they may take to get back to you with a II after you have submitted your secondary?

Does anyone know if this year's Meharry Interviews are in person or virtual? Couldn't find any updated 2022-2023 cycle info regarding this on their website.
