2022-2023 Meharry

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone get a email about student interview? I’m confused on what this is. And they don’t have a number I can reach and speak to someone
I have done the MMI, scheduled for the student interview this week, and have yet to be scheduled for the "one-question" interview. Ms. Dixon emailed this morning to say she is waiting on the availability of faculty.

If it's tomorrow or Thursday, then I think it's the one where you interact with current students and asks any questions you may have. They also may ask you questions. It's a chill interview. Be yourself and you should be golden.

EDIT: I withdrew my application due to getting accepted to my top choice PhD program

Anyone else waiting to be let in by the host of the Zoom meeting, or did I get locked out again even though I logged in 30 minutes early? LOL

Can you all let us know what they say

Thus far:

- There are 7,516 applicants and 115 seats for class of 2027. These applications are done manually, very low tech, and no algorithms.
- Evaluation process is still ongoing. They are still interviewing and will continue to do so until all 115 seats are full.
- You can send status updates to admissions email in PDF format but please be careful with them. They are moving to the end of the cycle and it cannot be guaranteed they will make it around to looking at your updates.
- If you are still waiting on a decision, complete your FAFSA, research scholarships, please be patient<3, research Nashville, prep for your interview, develop your support network, and continue doing what y’all doing.

You said "thus far," so I thought I'd be the one to ask...anything to add?

Yeah! I just wasn’t sure if people would be interested in numbers and stuff lol. Someone made a summary during the first session, I’ll try to find it for ya, but this is what I got:

You cannot do work study until your second year of med school

COA: $388,289 with a 7.1% interest, wonderful

You can only borrow 224k in direct loans and this amount is included if you have any loans from undergrad or grad school. Once you max out on that amount, you’d have to apply for the PLUS loan to fund your education which is based on your credit. If this isn’t clear:I have 50k in direct unsubsidized loans from undergrad and grad. That being said, if I attended Meharry, I can only borrow 174k MAX in direct loans, then I’d have to apply for a PLUS loan.

They are ***usually*** done sending IIs and decisions by Mid April but there are rare exceptions to this.

For admitted applicants ONLY:
1. Your first deposit deadline is 10 days after you get your offer letter
2. Your second despite deadline is 4/30/23
3. Matriculation form in student portal, technical stands form, and student health form are due PRIOR to 6/1/23
4. Background check and student health insurance will be sent in late spring and must be done PRIOR to 6/1/23
5. Final official transcripts must be sent to admissions by 6/1/23

Thank you soooo so much for this info!

I just wanted to put this out there. For those worried about the Academic probation, We had a mini meeting for accepted student that couldn't get into the zoom call for financial aid info (due to space constraint), Ms Dixon addressed it and was transparent about it. It had nothing to do with the Education offered or the curriculum. It was really basic infrastructure problems such as wifi, study space, lack of a Liason between students and admission committee which Meharry have sorted out most of it and are actively sorting out the rest and we were rest assured they would put everything in place before the end of the year. Also this would not affect you when applying to residency in the future. I just felt to clear someone's doubt and make you a bit comfortable if that helps.

Also wondering how current students feel about living close by to Meharry or in the downtown area in general and if it’s relatively safe?
I live close to campus and I am glad that I made that decision. I would say live close to campus as possible. Traffic is the common denominator of when speaking to others. Safety-wise, I believe it's fine, though this is from my experience so it may differ when speaking with others about this.
For any current med students here, is it more common for you guys to live on or off campus?
I say it is split. Most people tend to stay on campus for the first year since they aren't familiar with the area or how to get the best deal possible. I know they are/just recently built a campus apt within walking distance of the school, but those tend to fill up fast.

Do you know if any students with a spouse lives in those apartments?

Hey y’all! I’ve had two interviews but waiting on my third. Can someone give me a timeline of when they received all three interviews?

Accepted students when you paid the acceptance deposit did you get a confirmation email? I did not get a confirmation email and I am worried

To hell with this process. I was complete in October, did MHS and I’ve heard nothing. I’m withdrawing my application. I’m not applying again and I’ve learned a lot about how hard work doesn’t always mean you’ll be satisfied.

Hey I'm sorry if this cycle has been hard for you, but by withdrawing your application, you don't gain anything. Sure you may not get an II, but by withdrawing you're guaranteeing you don't get one at all.

It doesn't hurt to just leave it alone and who knows maybe late into the cycle you might hear from them. At least you know you tried all the way through before throwing in the towel and won't have regrets later.

Don’t give up so soon. This is my third time applying and I’ve finally gotten an interview after 2 failed cycles.
Some of the students at Meharry didn’t get accepted until the day before orientation. So you never how things can shift.

I’m sorry bc It’s really true that. I know you’ve tried really hard and honestly if you would be happy doing it then do it man. Med school will always be there if you wanna try again.
