in what way? just curious
The biggest difference I noticed was that decisions did not come out starting mid-October (like all the prior years)! Also, secondaries were sent out approximately 2 weeks later; assuming this, decisions could be delayed up to 2 weeks as well (but hopeful that that does not include the holidays)!

and the first wave of December decisions didn't come out on the first Tuesday of the month like they did last year!
Exactly! So, my assumption is that they were 2 weeks displaced with secondaries as well as pre-II Rs (according to CycleTrack when comparing the large R spikes between this year and last year), AND since As starting rolling out today (1 week later), they seemed to have caught up by a week!

Do you think I could call them tomorrow for a status update? I hate to sound impatient to them, but I just want to know before I make a large deposit (which would be financially irresponsible of me if I don’t end up going there)

your application is closed it’s not going to turn an A into an R if you call and ask haha (maybe don’t mention the other school tho? idk idk what’s “impolite”)

I usually email them in the morning, and Ms.Reid is typically quick to respond, but also she may not be just receiving your email tomorrow..

I assume your other deposit is to a DO, so I hope that decision comes soon too, those are MASSIVE deposits.

Not good—confidence has 📉

But, I *might* muster the courage to call around 3ish?
luckybelle, of course you should call! The power dynamic in this whole process is unfortunate. You have spent years preparing, you spent hours and hours on your application, you've spent lots of money applying to UNC. My guess is that they appreciate and respect the investment you've already made in them. It's totally fine to call them and see if they can give you some information to help you figure out how to handle the upcoming deposit that you need to make at the other school. Your job is not to protect their feelings. It's to own your own decisions and act with confidence. They will NOT change their decision on you one way or another if you call. You are owed this courtesy.

Not to stir the nerves, but my portal just changed with items added to my application checklist (official transcript requests). I still don’t have a formal acceptance in the portal, nor have I received a call.
Mine also just came up with the official transcript request - says awaiting item. Wouldn't that have been sent with our AMCAS? And are you thinking that's a good sign or bad?

got the call yesterday, checked my portal and it's also updated w the same things

Right now, it's literally nothing without a document that says "offer of acceptance." With that being said, I believe it is an LCME (Liason Committee on Medical Education...the accrediting body for MD schools) requirement for schools to have a copy of your transcripts prior to matriculation. This is separate from your AMCAS application. Every school I've gotten into has asked for my official transcripts (not fun for me since I have nine to send...). So, it could be a positive sign or it could be nothing. Without an offer, it's just speculation.

I am assuming those with portal changes will get the call soon—so congrats in advance! Question for people who have already gotten the call: have all of your portals changed?

Can you send what your portal looks like?

Did you get an email about the update?
I just checked my portal for kicks (and to fulfill my relentless desire for awareness in this thing known as the med school application process). There was first a green check for my fee waiver and then there were x's for my transcripts indicating that there was a pending action needed. Basically, it was luck that I saw the update. And, for the record, I still have no clue what it means.

Sure...something like this. Forgive me for not showing the entire thing.

did yours have a green check for a fee waiver before? mine just says recent activities: payment waived and the date

Oof. Looks like I caught a WL or Rejection since I interviewed early October with no portal update. 😢
Not necessarily. In past threads, people who interviewed early were accepted later on before the waitlist notifications were sent out. They are probably just keeping you under continued review and comparing your app to future interviewees

Yea most likely. Blows that I'm gonna have to wait till end of March for the next update after already waiting 9 weeks for this one.
