Alice L. Walton School of Medicine has received preliminary accreditation from LCME and may now begin accepting applications for EY 2025.
Their inaugural class will have 48 students.
The first 5 classes of students will have free tuition.
** Since it's too late to take the PREview test this year, you can apply without it.***

Here is the link to application instructions, the deadline to submit the primary is Feb 1, 2025

AWSOM is arguably the best name ever.

The fact that AWSOM will pull a lot of potential applicants to UAMS is fun thing to see.

Exciting news, I will be applying!

For anyone trying to glean any more info about the school, according to this article, there will be 48 students in the first class. Additionally, when asked about recruitment for the first class, it seems that "priority is given to candidates in the Heartland region, which includes Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma". Here are the admissions requirements: Admissions

1. MCAT score of 500
2. PREview Score
3. Overall GPA of 3.4
4. United States Citizen or Permanent Resident,
5. Cumulative undergraduate BCPM GPA of 3.4 OR Cumulative post baccalaureate BCPM of 3.5 OR Cumulative graduate BCPM GPA of 3.5 with at least 24 credit hours in math and sciences

Looks like I am going to have to take PREview. But according to this, there are no PREview test dates available for the rest of 2024? Register for the AAMC PREview® Exam

There are not many schools which require PREview, so you might not have taken it in 2024.
You will be able to register for 2025 AAMC PREview in January, which should be soon enough for this school’s timeline.

Well, the test dates for PREview ran from March to September for 2024 (and I saw it posted online 2023 was the same). AWSOM has a primary application deadline of February 1, 2025 and a secondary application deadline of March 1, 2025, meaning the test could not be taken before the application is due (provided that PREview is offered from March to September in 2025 like 2023 and 2024).

I think I might reach out to them about this.

I reached out to them Thursday about this and haven't gotten a reply yet but I'll post if and when they reply about this

Soo will that campus be open for students by the time classes begin? I'm tempted to throw my application at this school, but the pain of being their first class may be treacherous. Free tuition alleviates that a bit though.
looking at google maps it seems like there is much work to be done for the school to be completed by next fall! Who knows though anything is possible with unlimited amounts of Walmart heiress money $$$

Google Maps doesn't show current photos, though! Their building is probably much closer to being done.

Image was dated 2024, but more could have been done on construction since of course. This image is dated 2 weeks ago, definitely more progress but much work still to go

I went to an info session last week and they are anticipating the primary to be up first week of Nov at the latest. They will also be having online webinars in the coming months!

Me too. Anyone see anything about LOR anywhere? I don’t see any requirements so I will just send what I think are my best 3?

I think they’ve been heavily trying to recruit Arkansas residents and students from northwest Arkansas to fill their 48 spots, which makes sense since their mission is to serve that region. They actually had an informational session exclusively for University of Arkansas students a week ago where they answered a lot of the questions you guys are asking. If I remember correctly, they said you need a committee letter and 4 individual letters to be considered.

Some controversies tho…they won’t have a real gross anatomy lab with real cadavers like other schools, it will be all virtual dissections. They also have a flipped structure where instead of say having a class about the heart you’ll learn about the heart in each of your classes from a different perspective, like immunological, structural, etc. There were also concerns over research too since they don’t have their own hospital system or strong academic connection yet. When asked about faculty, someone asked if the majority of faculty has been hired and he kind of danced around the question and essentially said “haha we are still working on that.” But honestly, for free tuition, maybe it’s worth it to look past some of those red flags lol, just thought it’s something people should be aware of before applying.
Appreciate the insight. Very odd to start taking apps and not outline LOR requirements but we shall see.

Thats interesting about the LOR requirement... this is what the website says

"If invited for a supplemental application, applicants must submit a minimum of three letters of recommendation to complete their application. Up to five letters of recommendation may be submitted per applicant. Alternatively, one committee letter from a premedical advising office compiling feedback from multiple sources will also fulfill this requirement. All submitted letters must be signed or on letterhead and submitted through AMCAS Letter Service."

So I think as long as you have a committee letter (that encompasses multiple LORs) you should be fine

I think it’s an OR situation. I think whatever u had for AMCAS already should be good. I also am not super surprised they are still figuring out a lot of stuff. Belmont felt the same way last year especially when there is at least 8 months til school starts

You right. I was just going off what I remembered from their presentation last week, but what’s on their website is def correct. They also could have just changed their minds. They said preview was required during the info session but now it looks like it’s just recommended
