Does the campus selection increase or decrease your chances of matching with Baylor? In other words, does Baylor rank a candidate lower or higher based on their preference..
 
Is a spot guaranteed at a Baylor campus after match day? Very confused on the waitlist verbiage. Is there an option to state "No Preference" and get into either campus? If a campus is chosen and if it's full does it mean we get on a wait list and we lose the chance of getting into med school. Does it make sense to rank Baylor higher then? Sorry am not clear on the waitlist verbiage on the email. Thanks

After acceptance into the Baylor College of Medicine M.D. program, all applicants must log into the Applicant Portal and rank their campus preferences. Campus assignments are determined by a computerized selection system with results redistributed based on campus capacity. Assignment notifications begin in mid-March. Assignments are not assured until a confirmation email has been sent from the Baylor College of Medicine Office of Admissions.

No, it just means that if you are assigned to the campus that you didn’t prefer, then you still have a shot at getting into the campus that you do prefer. No matter what, you will be at Baylor.

Basically you match to Baylor you are going to Baylor. If you preference say Houston campus and get placed in Temple you can choose to go on a waitlist to get moved to Houston. There used to be a "no preference" but the adcom on my visit said they might be removing that option because it was confusing students. You WILL NOT lose the chance to go to medical school if you match to Baylor. There are enough "spots" for matched students, just not necessarily at the campus you may prefer.

Yeah. To add to this, at the open house, they said that only around 5 people per year put a preference for Temple. So MOST people at Temple were assigned there even though they preferred Houston. Just make sure you are okay with the possibility of the Temple campus if you are ranking Baylor first on match day! (for the record, I like Temple)
 
Doesn’t Baylor also take around 25 students off the WL (who end up in temple) and there’s around 46 (I believe?) in the temple campus - so if u match there’s a 90% chance u end up in Houston if u ranked it 1?
 
Let me see if I can summarize.. Baylor has 200 seats. 160 in Houston, 40 in Temple. Let's say 10 of their top 200 ranked students indicate a preference for Temple. the other 190 want Houston. The bottom 30 ranks out of these 190 will be waitlisted for Houston.

Now, 20 of the 160 Houston admits decline admission & decide to enroll elsewhere. At that point, 20 out of the 30 admitted Houston waitlisted students will be accepted into their campus of choice. The next 20 students from the waitlist will be offered admission to the Temple Campus.

Do I have this flow right? If not, could someone please point out where this is off.

From what I understand based on my interview day and conversations with other students: temple preference students get temple, everyone else in randomized

The Houston waitlist order is influenced by rank order

But, if I am waitlisted and end up clearing later then I will end up in Temple likely..

It would be good if the school could clarify how the Houston waitlist order is influenced by rank order

Candidly, I think of Baylor Houston & Baylor Temple as two separate decisions. I could prefer Dell (as an example) over Baylor Temple but not over Baylor Houston. Not having any visibility into my rank at Baylor, the rational decision would be to put in Dell first and Baylor second.

I believe this is similar to how Mayo does it with their campus selections. Would be nice for Baylor lol.
 
Radio silence here for a few days... Looking for any insights into Baylor's algorithm for matching applicants with the Hou/Temple Campus. It seems that if I rank towards the bottom of Baylor's preferred candidates then I am more likely to end up at Temple. Temple is less preferred for me and I love Houston. I dont know where Baylor ranks me after my interview.. Really puzzled about what I should do

That’s not true, it’s random where you get sorted. They only use the rank list once you’ve been randomly sorted for the Temple -> Houston waitlist.

The dean, at preview day, said applicants were randomized to either campus. Barring MSTP applicants and those who, I believe, are married and demonstrate their ties to Houston (I don't remember the specific requirements). How true you want to believe the randomization really is... idk. Only the wait-list AFTER initial campus assignments are ranked based on your application's score, per their words.

I'm confused what your conundrum is. Where to rank Baylor? Yes, there's a possibility you will end up in Temple. You must factor that into your ranking decision. Yes, it is said that if you get into Baylor off the wait-list, you may be more likely to be placed in Temple. At least in that scenario, you will either (1) already have another option that you can fall back on if you really don't want to be in Temple or (2) be unmatched elsewhere and therefore it would be attend med school (perhaps in Temple) or don't attend at all

October 15 is the first day for programs to offer acceptances. They will continue through the cycle until late May or later.

Matched! And had a question about the email that was sent out. It says that we need to accept the offer before we get the campus selection form. Does that mean we're basically forced to withdraw from our tmdsas waitlists to schools we ranked higher?

No, it only means you need to verify your offer from Baylor. Doing that is the only way you will be able to rank and then find out your campus assignment.
You are allowed to stay on other TMDSAS WLs until May 15th.

Did you have a chance to interview at Baylor? A lot of OOS applicants don't know our TMDSAS timeline but our interviews are completely over for the year now. If you did interview you should hear something, either acceptance or WL, in the next few weeks.

I did interview. I was just a little confused about how things work for OOS since we do not participate in the match. Thank you for the clarification. It sounds like we will continue anxiously waiting!
