So, story time.

Today, I literally just recovered from a bad episode of laryngitis, finished my UT Tyler interview, was in the car with my fam, openly yapping about how I regretted blowing $100 to send in my Baylor secondary. I was going to shell-ebrate the good times of Christmas so hard because my interview season was over.

Then, behold, at 2:30, I got an interview invite from BAYLOR! Like, what?! I couldn’t even open the email! The signal was so bad on the road. And when I did, I had to read through the email twice. TWICE! what? An interview? Moi?

I am still in literal disbelief. I still find myself stopping in my thoughts to turn my head and think, huh 🤔.

But yahhhhhhh that was a long message. Hopefully this will motivate future applicants to just turn in all their secondaries non-regardless of perceived chances. It’s the TMDSAS application cycle! Who’s who to say how it’ll turn out?

+1 IS II!! It’s the last interview of the cycle! For reference, I received my secondary 8/6 and submitted my secondary 11/08.

Congrats! If you don't mind sharing, when is their last available interview day?

For the others that received an A on monday, did any of y'all ask Dr. Vallejo when the email confirmation would be sent out? I wish I had asked him during the call but I was so surprised I could barely think.

He told me it would be sometime this week

Absolute dawg activity, put that interview to bed

Most likely on/after match day like the rest of us since Baylor is not super big on sending prematches
Not sure if this has been answered. Someone from the committee did tell me that OOS would be accepted mid-nov to mid-apr. Hoping it’s true that most will be closer to spring

Does anyone know if the campus selection process is truly random? Or how it works in general?

I think if you scan this thread you will see the issue discussed.
After Match Day matched students will be asked their preference or asked if they have no preference and why. It is not random, but not everyone will get their first choice

EDITED: the below information is wrong. i will leave this here and post in the thread the updated information.

it was explained at a campus visit, and i'm under the impression that pre-matched students do receive their first choice of campus.
also, if a houston-campus student withdraws, a temple-campus student is then given the chance to change from temple to houston. then, a waitlist student is given admittance to baylor-temple.

I think that impression about pre-matched students getting their first dibs is a holdover from our threads theorizing about how it would work, a couple years back.
My advice: put your real preference and reasons on the survey form when asked

There is a lot of conflicting knowledge floating around and I don’t know what is real and what is not. I vaguely remember them saying it was randomized during interview info sessions. I’m wondering if there is any concrete info

Ok….do you know of anything concrete then….

Good point! My impression of pre-matches getting 1st choice is based on the campus visit. I believe this method is a change from prior years, although that wasn't explicitly stated.

It was carefully explained at that time that all admitted students are ranked, and that ranking is a major factor in who gets their 1st choice campus. As prematches are at the top of the ranking, they receive their 1st choice automatically. Campuses are also balanced (so one campus isn't majority one gender, for example). Idk how campus balancing works with rankings.

I'd still recommend verifying this info for yourself, instead of taking my understanding as fact.

I checked the Baylor web page just now and it does have some info about campus placement. Campus placement becomes final once you actually start attending school in the summer. M.D. Program Admissions FAQs

There is some flexibility about switching from one campus to the other if openings arise before classes begin, mainly these openings would come from OOS students leaving Baylor for preferred schools.

@pdidd3 could you try deleting and then re-installing your SDN app or Tapatalk app and clearing your cache on the app?
That should fix the way your posts look with lots of extraneous characters

Dr. Cable said we'd hear about scholarships in December... come on man I've waited so patiently

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we won't e hearing anything until after next week. I don't expect today or next week cause end of year/holidays. Could very well be wrong though.

When I went on the campus tour they specifically said that they replace OOS students with OOS people from the true waitlist to keep the IS/OOS ratio the way they want

This can also be true. There is an upper limit on the number of OOS students.
However, if an OOS student who had been assigned to the Houston campus leaves, the new guy coming in from the WL could end up at either campus

Are you sure about this? Last year, TX medical schools gave 302 acceptances (11.64% of total acceptances) to OOS students and only 154 matriculated (6.91% of total matriculants) into TX medical schools.

really wanna attend this school. got an interview for 1/10. how do i maximize my chances or is interviewing this late basically a 'nothingburger'. how does one even interview well lol. i feel like im not interviewing well. i got an interview with UW as an OOR which is statistically crazy but got rejected post ii which kinda stung and is making me rethink all my other interviews (a&m, mcgovern, utsw, long)

anyway, any help would be very appreciated

Smile. Be genuine. Show them your personality. Make them laugh. When asked about your experiences, speak about them passionately but with humility. Ask them for advice. Remember to let them talk. These things will make them remember you.

It’s not too late at all. You getting the interview invite means they’re impressed with you and you have just as good of a shot as the applicant that interviewed months ago. Go kill that interview and snag that seat—you worked for it 🤝🏼

sorry if this question has already been asked/answered, but does the feb 14 date (match day?) apply to OOS applicants or is it just for IS applicants? for reference, i'm an OOS applicant that interviewed back in sept.

The match doesn’t really apply to OOS applicants. As far as I’m aware, having asked on interview day and looking at cycle track.org, they do accept OOS applicants with pre-match decisions. I’ve seen that they seem to extend As around the fifteenth of each month. So you could hear January, could hear the week of match day, or could hear after.

Match essentially makes Texas residents get down to one admission if they have more than one or give them an admission/leave them on waitlist if they dont have one. Not sure OOS students are able to rank if they have interviewed at multiple places and have no admissions.

some temple/houston campus information confirmed recently (not just my guesses):
  • campus assignment does not take into account pre-matches or your ranking/desirability as an applicant.
  • campus assignment is random, although "balanced campuses" are achieved (e.g. a campus will not be heavily weighted towards one gender)
  • if your receive your 2nd choice campus, you can request to be on the wait list for your 1st choice campus. this campus-assignment wait list is indeed in order of ranking (your desirability as an applicant). thus, pre-matched applicants are very, very likely to move off the wait list to their desired campus, as they will be at the top of the wait list.
  • last cycle, about 10 students withdrew from the houston campus, and thus, about 10 students were moved from temple assignment to houston assignment via wait list.
please verify this info for yourself of course.

Does that mean 10 new students were admitted to Temple in May/June?

Per their website, if all 10 of the students that were offered a spot to Houston accepted, then that would be the case if all of the waitlist admissions were indeed handed out in may/june.

How "heavy" is Baylor with pre matches? Are they like UTSW or do most students get accepted on match day?

vast majority of Baylor seats are filled on match day so few pre-matches are sent out, a liberal estimate is probably 40-50 kids are sent prematches out of the 240 seats. keep in mind these schools "rank to match" more than their class size, meaning a school with 240 seats like Baylor may rank to match 300+ kids because they account for students ranking UTSW or other texas schools #1 over Baylor. moral of the story, wait for match day and finalize your rank list soon
