2024-2025 Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Take a look at the Burrell Interview page on SDN. In terms of the financial aid, only the NM campus is able to provide federal aid to its students.
Why does the Florida location have no federal aid?

Where do you find that info about no federal aid in FL campus? I can't find it...

It's a new campus. We were told this during the interview but they're working on getting federal aids to students soon (don't know when)
I believe they need to be functioning as a campus for 2 years before they can be eligible for federal loans

Not quite - the rules, and eligibility, are slightly different because of how the campus is designated. The application has already been put in, we're just waiting on the government to let us all know. It definitely won't be this coming academic year, though.

Is there an expected timeline/deadline for the government's response on the federal aid or is it just completely up in the air? Any info at all on that would be much appreciated, thank you!

Unfortunately, no. It could be any time from now until whenever they get to it. Given the turmoil/turnover at DOE, I'd put it on the latter end of that timeline.

If it helps, they told us not to expect anything for the first two years of the campus, at the very least, and likely for the first three years, when it came up during all the financial aid things we got during orientation last year.

From a current student's perspective, how are the opportunities for clinical rotations and what are some positives and negatives about Burrell?

withdrew from my seat just now for NM. hope it goes to one of y’all💗🫂

Congrats guys!!!
My interview is April 15... because that was the earliest date I could schedule a time that worked between my classes...

Same here haha, I'd rather recieve a rejection than false hope
Right. It is so nerve racking. I sent them a letter of interest, and they responded pretty quickly letting me know it has been added to my file and thanking me for my patience.

Did you also fill out the earlier interview day survey? Just in case someone cancels they will call you and ask if you want your interview earlier.

Come to think of it... I forgot if I did or not, but I sent them an email

So, uhh...surprise?

I already changed my campus preference right before my interview. Oh well! Just glad that students at FL campus get their much deserved federal aid!!!

I received an email yesterday indicating that the FL campus was officially approved for aid beginning this school year.

I am waiting to hear back from Burrell and one other school, my interviews for both schools were one day apart. I am hoping that I will get responses from both schools at around the same time, but does anyone have an idea if I get an acceptance to one school but haven't heard back from the other, can I delay the deposit by a few days to hear back from the other school before I commit? Burrell said 2 weeks and the other school I interviewed at said 3-4 weeks. This is my first cycle so I am new to all of this.

How to Apply - Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine They list when deposits are due!

I regret having my decision to cancel interview Florida campus that I was supposed to have. Then I emailed them to reconsider me and my initial reason was because they weren’t approved of federal aid yet and now they are. So they reconsidered to interview me and I chose April 24. I’m not even sure of my chances anymore since I refused them in the first place

Not sure of your chances because it's a late interview or because you turned them down? Either way, the interviewer isn't going to know since it's not part of your PS or secondary. Plus, your rejection is for a very valid and understandable reason. I'm glad they are giving you another chance!

Because I turned them down

Yes I’m also happy they are willing to give me another chance because I got fried by my stepmom when she found out I turned them down. She said how will you know if federal loans is cheaper than private because federal is based on economy 😂😭

Lol I can imagine how that conversation went😆. Try not to stress over it too much. Since they gave you another chance it probably won't even be mentioned when they meet for decisions.

Were you interested in the NM campus? I changed my campus preference before my interview and then right after FL announced their federal aid
😅
