2024-2025 Columbia (Vagelos)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Mega-congrats but that’s downright criminal 😭 what if you had holiday vacation plans or something???
Not holiday plans, but I did indeed have a crazy workday scheduled where I was supposed to be in two places at once. Scrambling to rearrange things 😵‍💫😵‍💫 but of course feeling very lucky I was able to slip in before interview season ended!

Best of luck, you deserve it!!! After making you go through this, Columbia better give you the A ☠️

Thoughts on sending out an update letter now vs first week of Jan?
you should send one now, i sent one last week because they're probably going to finish giving out IIs in December, if they haven't already finished inviting for the cycle but its worth a try

does columbia want updates/letters of intent sent over email or on the portal? the website's faq says to upload it under the status tab on the portal, but I don't see an option to

i ddi it through the portal and they later emailed me saying they received it!

i believe one of the schools that makes it explicitly clear that your thank you notes will be added to your file

would definitely write higher-effort ones here
Ahh shoot I interviewed a few days ago, I guess better late than never in terms of writing thank yous!!

> submitted an update letter in early-mid december

Ill Be Back Jim Carrey GIF

Can anyone speak to their interview experience here? I know it's 2 open file interviews, but have people's experiences been conversational or something else?

i had a lot of fun with this one. you can expect a very very open file interview

the interviewers will have read your app in depth and have targeted questions while leaving room for conversation. from what i could tell, they make a big effort to match you with interviewers who have shared interests (research, interests outside medicine, etc)

def read over your w&a and secondary again. good luck!
I second this! I felt like the interviewers were really interested and excited to talk about my app, and also appreciated that there wasn't too much fluff going on. Be sure to have an answer for not just why NYC, but specifically why Washington Heights. I loved it!!

I had 99% the same experience as the above two folks. I totally loved my interview, it was a lot of fun and no stress whatsoever!

No idea, but the cycletrack graph for this year and last year looks different. Maybe they're taking their time

Submitted secondaries mid august and still havent heard anything back.. anyone else in the same boat not sure if I should give up hope hahah

yep they're sending out the final couple interview invites and then rejections are impending unfortunately, huge R waves mid-Jan and mid-Feb last cycle

congrats! what dates are open?
1/15 and 1/16 at first. Now only 1/16. I can't do 1/16, but they said "Please note that the interview slots open daily; if there aren't any available/preferred days, kindly check back periodically." so I will just wait for more to open up.

I think I actually will take the 1/16 date. I initially didn't take it because I have two other interviews that week on 1/13 and 1/15 and three in one week and two back to back seemed like a lot but I looked at previous years SDN threads and saw that last year the last interviews were on 1/23 and 1/24. I'm going to be out of town from 1/17-1/24, so to not risk it I am considering just taking the 1/16 date. Idk if anyone has any advice on this though.

I say go for it! It's actually nice to get them out of the way. I basically had 5 back to back in October and It wasn't too bad

I believe decisions will come out on Mon Mar 3, sometime around 4pm ET based on historical data. The countdown begins...best of luck to everyone! 😊
