My interviewer disagreed with me or corrected me on a bunch of stuff. It seemed like for some of it she was just trying to incite discussion but idk if it was that or just that she didnā€™t like me

My interview was 30 mins with 15 minutes of me asking questions................
Mine was similar, but about 45 minutes.

It was open file and they didn't ask any ridiculous questions or make it into an inquisition. To be honest, I don't see the point of those questions. Either someone has appropriate social skills, a personality, makes eye contact, and seems genuine or they don't. If you can't tell from someone's application and a 30 minute interview if someone is a good fit, you're not going to figure it out in an hour or 2. Certainly not by asking them what kind of tree they would be.

I get why some schools like MMI as it in theory puts all candidates on equal footing, but that's not true anyway. Not every candidate starts on the same step and most applicants have studied all the ethics for MMI and have taken Casper.

so you think it's okay?

I think so. I don't think the shorter time or lack of questions is a red flag. These are still early interviews so I doubt they looked at our apps and said no way I'm wasting time interviewing this applicant.

For those who really felt like their interviews didn't go well for ANY reason, you can request another interview. The admissions office does not look down on it at all and it is no questions asked why you are requesting a second interview. Make sure to do this ASAP after your interview though.

I heard from my advisor that sometime interviewer might purposely disagree or give you a ā€œhard timeā€ to see how you handle those kind of situation under pressure or with disagreements. Wonder if this fit into that or the interviewer might just be a bad interviewer. Not sure how i feel about this practice tho

Yes, Iā€™ve heard of it being done at other schools like mayo but never here, I guess weā€™ll see what happens

Did anyone else have a really negative experience with their interviewer, like a stress-test style interview? My interviewer grilled me for the better part of 20 minutes, and then he changed his tune and told me I was doing great. Unsure if anyone else had an experience like this, or if I should request another interviewer. Interview was done last Tuesday.

Are there any current students that would be able to answer some questions about the school? I have an interview early next week. Thanks!

I asked my interviewer for their email, which included asking permission to email them the thank you directly.

Question: If I graduated in December 2023, (didn't take any classes that semester though, just did research and other activities) does that technically count as less than a year and I would leave the gap year essay blank?

It will be more than a year from matriculation into their school so i would still answer it. Itā€™s also a great opportunity to talk more about those activities!

What 4:30 session? My interview is not until October so is it something they send you closer to your interview date?

Has anyone had a positive experience thus far? So far it just looks like everyone has been getting grilled :( I'm a little scared!

For those who were grilled, what were you grilled on? Was it your app or the answers to whatever questions they threw at you?

Were the questions more behavioral style or conversational? Thanks so much!!

on interview day, along with the actual interview there's a session at 4:30 for all the interviewees i think

Mine was very conversational and a positive experience. She only asked me questions for about 15 min and then let me ask questions for the remainder.

I had a very positive experience. She asked detailed questions about my application, and we covered almost all of it, and then we just discussed the program itself. I didn't feel like I was being grilled or anything.

I just checked the sdn from last year and it seems like the first acceptances were sent out February 1st so maybe (hopefully) we can hear back before March too šŸ„²
hey! just saw this and can offer guidance (current student at AECOM) - was told directly by admissions, bc of the somewhat anticipated larger number of apps this year, first acceptances wont be going out until March 1st, there will also likely be a few more formal first look days in the march!

the early eve sessions are completely time for interviewed applicants to chat with current students, nothing you say/do in those meetings will have impact on your application, it's a chance for you to talk with students directly and see if you feel like you fit the vibes of the school

I know NYC schools tend to be a bit rough when it comes to interviews, but my interviewer here was the kindest, most thoughtful person I encountered on the interview trail last year. We talked about food, sports, living in NYC, she gave me a list of names I could get in contact with for research at Einstein aligning with my interests, and I could tell she read through my app.

Obviously not everyone is going to have an experience similar to mine, but I just wanted to add a different side of the story. Last year people were also stressed asf about the interview. I think there is definitely some selection bias in SDN posters, if you had a great experience you probs won't post about it. I talked with other people at my current school that interviewed at Einstein and they also had positive experiences.

Thank you for these insights! Did they say anything about interviewing less/more people? Or how the II rate or post II rate may change?

I interviewed and wasn't notified of any session like this. The only thing close to what you're describing that I can see is the student talks at 3:30.

Oh wait, nvm, checked my emails and I was notified. I just couldn't attend on that day due to work conflicts and it wasn't mandatory.

I heard they are interviewing 1200ish applicants this year since they are receiving more applications than previous years
