2024-2025 Kaiser Permanente (Tyson)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That’s dope! I anticipated housing in Pasadena to have insane prices especially after the fires.. glad to see the aid will help with that
From what alot of the current M1s said the housing eats up a good chunk but you can still have a solid amount leftover. I wanna say most places are 2-3k. Im looking outside Pasadena just to save as much as possible lol

Website says formal letters of intent are accepted between April 30th and May 30th.
I saw that, but it sounded like that was for admitted students to "commit" to Kaiser by May 30th, rather than their policy for everyone. I guess I am wondering if Kaiser sees letters of intent as only for people accepted/who have the choice to commit to attend. Otherwise, it seems weird that WL ppl cannot send them until April 30th?

I called admissions to ask and they said the letter of intent’s are only for accepted students. The said the only thing WL’d students can send is a letter of interest

thank you all for the love i appreciate it, just a heads up i uploaded my LOI on the portal and sent it via email like 3 days prior to recieving A so i'd highly recommend sending one if you've been planning to -- don't wait till the 30th imo you have nothing to lose

If you have any questions about the school let me know! Without a second look weekend it leaves yall without some cool info

when do we expect WL movement? Kaiser plsssss i need you
A couple people left our group chat, and some people were 50:50 at second look so I imagine there could be some in May. Kaiser wants admitted students to use the commit to enroll feature today too so I would keep an eye on your emails.

I don’t think there will be any official updates. If you get off the WL, you’ll get an email. We just have to be patient and take our minds off of it the best we can 🫡
sound advice right here . . . I plan to ignore it and refresh my email every 38 seconds for the next two weeks, I’ll let yall know if it works

Same, I am self-aware of how neurotic I am right now but can't stop it. 😂

is it possible that the small amount of movement on Wednesday was all there was this year 😳

Do you guys believe it is reasonable for me to ask the school to provide me an official letter confirming that I am on the waitlist? I had to stay outside of the US for more than 6 months, and now I have to prove to the government my intent to maintain my life and residency in the US as a permanent resident. A letter stating that I am on the waitlist would greatly prove that intent. (Of course that would be one of the many documents I would show). I just don't want to loose my chance of getting the US citizenship as I am currently in the process of getting it. Thanks for any insights!

Damn dude. I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. On one hand Kaiser is clearly a very progressive school, so it seems reasonable given the context. My only hesitancy would be that if they are aware you’re facing legal trouble with immigration there may be hesitancy to offer you an acceptance. Idk overall this is probably above SDNs pay grade but I really hope it works out for you.

Thank you for your response. I mean, I would definitely be able to stay in the US as I have the green card it would just be that the past 5 years would basically fade away and I have to wait another 5 years to apply for citizenship. Given that context, what do you think? Thank you for your kind words.

Basically, I would emphasize to them that this doesn't affect my legal standing or eligibility rather just the timeline of my US citizenship application. Does that make sense?

Seems compelling to me tbh. If you can emphasize that I don’t see a reason not to, but please get some insight from others as well. I know nothing about how all this works practically and given everything surrounding citizenship right now I’d hate to give you bad advice.

I think I will just do it. It is what I need to do. I would like to end up in a place that can appreciate my honesty even in a difficult situation.

Hasn’t worked so far but I’m feeling like it’s close

For any admitted student: Is the GroupMe already full?

I think they would understand; the physcian I started yapping to (I went sooo off topic I forgot what I was talking about and ended up talking about Latino soccer players) during my interview day talked about how their partner faced issues immigrating here. I would think they'd understand your situation and try to be supportive, but I am unsure if I am qualified to provide this advice. Just make sure if you do end up emailing them to explain your situation fully.
