2024-2025 Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Group chat is not indicative of current class size. I know several accepted people who haven’t joined yet and are planning on keeping their spot. There’s also current med students in it to help answer questions.
Just learned class size is full. Anyone who interviews will be put on alternate list/waitlist/rejected :/

Gotcha thank you! Did they clarify on the difference between alternate list and waitlist? Or is it basically the same
I’m not 100% sure but I think waitlist is just like ur regular waitlist. Alternate pool is the one where ur accepted pending open seat, so if someone pulls out they have a short list of students to go to. If no one pulls out then those people on the alternate list get guaranteed acceptance next cycle.

I don't think that's correct especially since I was placed on the alternate list(AL) and people have reported acceptances after I was placed on the AL. It would be nice if we get a direct response from them so I can stop overthinking and spiraling

That's how they explained it to us during the interview last week. I'm not sure if they used the word alternate list or not bc I was too tired hehe

In my interview, if I remember correctly, alternate list wasn’t a guaranteed acceptance. It was just their form of a “higher-tier” waitlist where they pull from first if seats open up.

They said during the 2/14 interview that they're now sending out one of three decisions (since they've filled all the seats): rejection, waitlist and then acceptance pending open seat, which would guarantee matriculation in 2026 if you aren't pulled off for 2025. They said that the rejections and waitlists would be sent via email and then call those who are offered acceptance pending open seat.

Wait this makes sense now. So basically, the guaranteed A is a phone call and the alternate list is an email. In a sense, that means hierarchy of their decisions goes like this: A > guaranteed A > alternate list > WL > R.

Still not 100% sure if there’s an actual difference between AL and WL lmao, but this is the most I can make sense of rn.

Anyone get any decisions today or got off the alt list?
I got accepted for the class of 2030 and placed on the alternate list for the class of 2029. Admissions said they see a lot of movement in May (I'm praying for sooner).

OS 495 MCAT

To others who may have low stats like me - You are more than a number. Medical schools care about resilience, dedication, and your ability to grow. A low MCAT score does not define your potential to be a great doctor. Keep pushing forward your dream is still within reach!

So alternate list is basically accepted pending open seat?

correct - accepted class of 2030 + pending open seat class of 2029
EDIT: some people on AL weren't offered seats for next year - sorry for the confusion. I received a call and email that confirmed both placements. I'm rooting for everyone. good luck!

I'm pretty sure that in the email I got, it didn't indicate an acceptance for next year's class. I was just told I got on AL. I did get another email that offered me a direct admit opportunity through a 1 year master's program.

Here's the alternate list email I got:

"Thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program at Marian University’s Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-WCOM) for the entering fall 2025 class.

After careful review of your application, I regret to inform you that you were not selected for admission at this time. However, because of your academic and personal achievements, you have been placed on the alternate list. As such, the Admissions Committee will revisit the alternate list periodically. If a seat should come available, you will be contacted. Finally, the Admissions Committee views the alternate list as a group of applicants who have a very real likelihood to gain admission."

okay, my email reads differently. I'm going to edit my previous comment.

From what I took notes on, this sounds correct. Alt > WL. HOWEVER, the speaker said, while he cannot guarantee anything, anyone who interviewed yesterday (which would obviously indicate you all as well), is still early enough in the cycle where a WL or ALT should all get in, like previous years.

Hopefully that helps and takes some stress away for you all! Enjoy the weekend 🙂

can you post your email? -im on the alt list too. (Also are you OOS)
This is the email I received :

I am writing to inform you of your current application status at Marian University’s Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-WCOM). We believe strongly that you would make a great addition to the MU-WCOM family; however, currently, seats for the Class of 2029, matriculating in August of 2025, are full. Because we are enthusiastic about your admission to MU-WCOM, we are offering you a guaranteed seat in the Class of 2030, matriculating in August of 2026. Along with a seat in the Class of 2030, we are adding you to the Alternate List for the Class of 2029, and you will be placed at the top of that list. Therefore, if seats become available, you will be in the first group of students to receive offers for those seats. First, I want to say Congratulations on your admission to MU-WCOM for the entering fall 2026 class—and welcome to the MU-WCOM family. We have consistently utilized our alternate list in the past, and we expect to do the same this year.

"should all get in" dang that's a pretty bold statement

Yeah, lol, take that with a grain of salt of course. I’m pretty that’s what he said, but if anyone else interviewed last Friday, feel free to weigh in—this was my first interview ever so I was a little out of it 🤪.

Congrats on your first interview! I hope you get in

Is being on the alternate list the same as alternate for open spot?

I got rejected today. Maybe there’s next year 🫤. Thanks for collaborating everyone, hope your alt list goes well!

I’m looking into their masters, so who knows, maybe I’ll see some of you! Does anyone have good experience with it?

Does anyone know when they usually start pulling from the alternate list?

Does anyone know why some got AL and others got AL with a 2026 guarantee?

Did anyone else get an email yesterday saying that the committee was unable to make a decision about their application? Just curious!

Yeah I got that about a week before my AL email. I wouldn’t think much about it (good/bad). Just simply means they didn’t get to reviewing your app today, I think.

Yeah, I got that too. I interviewed on 02/06. They said that they will make a decision within 2-3 weeks after the interview, so I'm wondering why they send that email out. But @mintyrelish is right, I probably wouldn't think too much about it.
