Does anyone know if Sam is pre-match heavy.

Is it a good sign if the school calls you see if you will be submitting your secondary application? Although I have already submitted the application so it does worry me a tad that they did not see that beforehand, but I think it could be a good sign? Has this happened to anyone else? Currently waiting very impatiently lol

Also it doesn’t mean a prematch isn’t possible. It just means you’re not getting the first wave of prematches. You could get one in a later wave and even if that doesnt work out, you still have the match.

Finally SHSU has really solid WL movement unlike most of the other texas schools.

Does that mean we are waitlisted or rejected then?
Texas schools don’t have a waitlist until after the match. Some of us are probably on the waitlist already, it’s just not official. Others may still get accepted prior to match, we don’t really know since you can’t be rejected or waitlisted until after the match.

Does the review complete email mean, we are not getting prematch or rejected?
The review complete email is just telling you that they have completed your file review and you're now eligible for the prematch pool. If you get one great, if you don't then you just wait until match day like the majority of people.

Also, this is the first week they could send out prematches so there will be many more to come.

Where did you get this information? Very excited information.

Texas schools don’t give rejection before match day for II applicants? Thanks

I am an OMS1 at Sam and I am basing it off how it was when I was accepted.

It is school specific on if they send post II rejections.

I have heard of a few rejections sent out before match day as well. It’s pretty uncommon and most schools will just let the cycle come to an end and the way you will find out is to get a “no match” message on match day.
That’s some pretty hard news to hear, and that’s probably why people aren’t eager to share it on SDN.

Yes, a dell latitude 7450 is what we were given this year and it is ours to keep. It can flip around and double as a tablet for note taking and is also used for taking exams.
Hi! I pre-matched here yesterday and I'm so excited! I was wondering how is financial aid here? Do they have scholarship opportunities?

Congrats first of all, so exciting!!

The financial aid dept went through some changes this past summer so it was frustrating to start but they have been great after getting the kinks worked out. There are opportunities for scholarship and they are adding more all the time. they send out emails/texts to let us know about updates on ALL things happening at the COM lol

Are the scholarships offered prior to the match or after the match? If you know. Thanks for your help!

Hey folks! OMS1 here at Sam. We had a student organization fair today, and I wanted to pass on a list of the orgs I could remember to you. I don’t have a lot of knowledge about the orgs so I’m hoping other students will chime in. These are all organized by students here with faculty oversight/mentors.

There are interest groups for IM, anesthesiology, surgery, cardiology, FM, dermatology, OBGYN, psychiatry, radiology, and sports medicine. I believe there’s more but that’s what I remember.

There are other orgs dedicated to nutrition, various religions, AMA/TMA, exercise, wilderness medicine, pediatric outreach, medical simulations, Med-tor (mentorship), and sexual health outreach.

+1 pre II IS R yesterday as well. was surprising and this one hurt a bit i can't lie, but i'll just take it as a sign for better things ahead..

Nothing to worry about, majority of the day is honestly socializing with peers and getting to know the institution and students there. So long as you remember to prepare but also enjoy your time, you should be fine. Low-stress for the most part!

+1 - it was an overwhelmingly positive experience for me as well. I would say the only downside was the writing assessment, but I was lucky enough to have that as my last activity of the day.

Just be yourself 🙂

Any specific resources, tips, or things to look over to help prepare for the interview for this school? (written assignment, MMI, 1on1)

(Interviewing this Friday and kind of nervous as it's my first II)

Trust me don’t worry. Be yourself, study up on what SHSU values, and preferably practice writing for 20 minutes straight 😂

As a OOS applicant with interview via zoom on the 15th Nov any other OOS applicants have any tips or specifics that they talked about regarding being out of state?

Interviewed there 2 weeks ago. My experience was very positive! Everyone was super nice, the campus is very new, and the assignments weren't overly stressful. Good vibes all around, especially during the tour and group activities. Ngl my hand was cramping a few minutes into the writing assignment since I haven't written anything that fast in a while. You should know the standard interview questions. Good luck!

There's a writing assessment which honestly serves 0 purpose and left a sour taste in my mouth in regards to my interview experience. Everything else was fun, interactive, and laid back.

Does anyone know when we can potentially expect another round of pre-matches?

Received II today, submitted 2nd app on 09/10. Will interview on 11/08. Could anyone please share your interview experiences?
I just interviewed yesterday, and like everyone else on this thread told me, it was super chill, pretty low-stress, and honestly, I thought it was fun. In terms of questions, everything I was asked were typical interview questions; nothing crazy.

Thank you so much for your answer. How did you feel about the written assignment and group interview? Are they extra activities or important parts for interview evaluation? And how did you prepare for them?

Written assigment - nothing crazy just annoying to have to write for 20mins straight
Group stuff - There's a "Group Interview" and a "Group Activity". Both are super chill and laid back. Just relax and be social and try to have fun.

The whole interview day schedule is on the secondary/interview portal and gives you a layout of the day. You're technically being "evaluated" the whole time but the "real stuff" is only after lunch.

Only prep I did was from this document from reddit here. Kinda just skimmed it to get an idea of questions.

It was really positive, students and faculty are really nice and inviting. The writing assessment was the most nerve wrecking part but they give you adequate time.

Hi there! I'm looking at the OOS matriculants for this School and well... it's quite low lol. With that said, is there a chance for acceptance if one were to apply to this school as an OOS?

There is always a chance as a certain % of admitted students must be OOS if I am not mistaken.

@Banana Slamma this DO school uses the TMDSAS application and not AACOMAS, so if you haven’t filled that out it’s too late to add this school.
Maximum for OOS matriculants is 10% due to the rules for state subsidization of tuition. The school’s mission also looks for people who want to settle and work in SE Texas and adjacent region.
