It said admissions decision, then a follow up email a min later saying congrats on your prematch; i just got a review email and that was after the prematch 🤣
I only got the file review complete email. I interviewed Oct 11th so I wouldn’t be surprised if they take longer to hand me a decision email.
I received the file review complete email on Nov 13. But no news after that. What does it mean ? Worried and anxious.

What does complete email means ? Any pre match offer?
The "review complete" email just means they have finished the review of your file. Does not guarantee prematch or acceptance over people who don't receive one.

Sorry if this is already in the forum somewhere. I know there is a group activity and a writing activity, but for the formal interview, are the questions MMI or traditional? Also, closed or open file?

Traditional and closed file

Does anyone know if they will send out IIs before the end of January? Still haven't heard from any TMDSAS schools and I was expecting to hear from at least TCOM or Sam Houston.

Anyone get rejected from SHSU after the interview ?
I have only seen members reporting pre-interview rejections. I think the rest of you will be waiting for Match Day, but they could surprise me with more pre-matches in January.

Hey guys, research luncheon was today. Here are a few I remember and a basic description of them.

COM wide research study on how medical education affects us physically and mentally through school and residency - 10 year longitudinal study where we can be participants for the 10 years and conduct research while on campus. Started with our class, 2028.

Anatomy: sympathetic chain ganglion dissection and building teaching modules to aid in the study of 2029 first years (difficult topic to understand), various embryology studies, building and incorporating "extended reality with haptics" into virtual learning. Anatomy faculty didn't get to present much.

Microbio: gold-nanobot targeted therapy for cancer and coronavirus cures and 3d imaging of nanoparticles and their mechanism of action.

Biochem: Many studies with lipids and obesity and their biological effects, osteogenesis using sphingolipids and ceramides, antifreeze mechanisms in bacteria and other fields. We got two new professors for this department so a few of their projects are on hold for now.

Nutrition: various medical educational studies ongoing with the SHSU physicians clinic on campus

Genetics: gene discovery in the fields of neurodegenerative medicine and intellectual disabilities

Osteopathy/Manipulative Med: the effects of cardiovascular fitness and OMT on cardiovascular diseases

These are just the ones I remember and more will become available. The COM is also super interested in student ideas and helping us facilitate our research that we would like to pursue. The offer many grants that you can apply for in case you need to buy equipment and also have a travel grant to cover the cost of travel if you want/are able to present you poster/abstract at a conference.

For those of you who sent update letters/LOI did you directly email admissions or send it through the portal?

Any intel on if they are still sending out interviews? I think I heard TMDSAS schools stop interviewing around this time.

Does anyone know if late-January interviewees are eligible for pre-match offers or only wait for the Match?

It depends how late you're talking here.
The school would have to have time to discuss you after your interview day, then the last day a pre-match offer can be made is Jan 31 (the same day that is the deadline for your rank order)

Most people find out their news on Match Day.

For current shsucom students in their 3rd and 4th year, where do most of y’all choose to rotate?
For third year SHSU is partnered with specific sites for rotation and you can see all of them on the website. If you're from an area or town/city that has a rotation site you're almost guaranteed to get placed there. It's a "lottery system" and you get you put your preferences but it ultimately goes, "hometown --> lottery system" where they just place you somewhere with an open spot. Once you are "placed" you can switch sites if someone is willing. They don't care as long as all the spots are filled at each site. Once 4th year starts you have so many "away rotations" where you can pick a hospital anywhere you choose.

Also, you will get all of this info and more than you would ever want during orientation!

OMSII here, just wanted to add on. The sites on the website are kinda out of date tbh. A lot of people will end up staying in the Houston/Conroe area, but other than that, most of the other rotation spots will be in North/Northeast Texas, the Piney Woods area, or along the coast. Not too many big city options but that's also Sam's mission. As far as your "hometown", you get preference but are not necessarily guaranteed if there are more people with that hometown then there are spots. However, that is only the case for a few places.

Edit for clarification: Not getting placed in your hometown does not put you at a disadvantage for the lotteries for the other sites. They are separate lotteries.

Interviewed on 1/10. Anyone else get an email that says this “SHSU-COM Admissions: Admissions Committee Review Complete”? Or does anyone know what it means? Is it a soft R or does it literally only mean that they finished reviewing my file and reached a decision, and that I still have a chance? Here’s the body of the email:

This email is to notify you the Admissions Committee has completed its review of your file. No action is needed on your part. SHSU-COM follows TMDSAS's guidelines for pre-match and match offers.

SHSU-COM will not accept changes or documents not transmitted from TMDSAS. Submitting additional updates/letters will not have any impact on your application packet.

I take this to mean they have discussed you at a committee meeting and nothing further is hinted or implied.
If you are an in-state Texas applicant, be sure you have ranked all your schools on your TMDSAS portal & good luck for Match Day.

It means your application is completely evaluated and ranked. Submitting anything later won't change their decision. Now, you just need to wait until match day. Shsu doesn't send many prematches, so most of us have to wait until match day.

i got the email 2 days after interviewing 😅 not sure if that's a good or bad sign lol

So if not get matched on match day, means wait listed ? Or rejected ? I heard on a webinar that rejections are already sent ?!

Was it your only interview?
On Match day you will get a match message, or a “no match” message.
Wait lists are created after that and you would find out by email from the school

Nice, good luck on match day !
Thank you! I'm trying to not read into it much because all it explicitly means is that my app has been completely reviewed and they won't be taking any other additional input lol

But I wanted to leave a comment in case anyone is curious for future cycles

It was for me so I obviously ranked them #1. Do they know that and does it make a difference?

The ranking you do is anonymous to the schools. You have done what you need to do, hope you get good news next Friday

Does anyone know from previous years how long it typically takes for them to reach out about being on a waitlist or not?
