Do any current students who are lurking know if UMass offers merit-based aid/ how good the financial aid is for OOS students?

Hi! I have some questions if you have any chance to answer!
1. (The obvious one) dyk anyone who got a January or later interview and was still accepted? I'm IS and holding out...
2. Do you get to have any interaction with the new research center yet and, if so, is it easy to get involved in research? Do you have the time for it?
3. How do you find the work/life balance/is there any?

Thank you so much in advance!
1. Yes!! I got interviewed in late feburary and go in about 2/3 weeks after my interview.
2. Honestly, I haven't gotten to much into research and wouldn't be able to answer this fully. I love studying in the new research building and using the conference rooms.
3. UMass I would say probably has the best work/life balance out of any medical school and I would argue with anybody about that. We have win weeks after each block. We take an exam on Tuesday and then have the rest of the week off. It really allows you to take a breath and reset before the next block!!

Feel free to PM if you have any questions!!

They do offer some (not sure how much), but the financial aid isn't the best at UMass. Would probably say my biggest grievance. Since it is a state school, they don't offer much from what I have seen. I don't have financial aid. I also don't consider loans "financial aid" if I have to pay it back on top of interest.

Thank you so much! This is reassuring and also super exciting for if I do have the opportunity to go - I really love the community, and ever med student I've met from there has echoed your sentiments

mid september. From what I heard they typically ramp up decisions after new years so hopefully soon
? As in, emails only sent on Fridays but to more interviewees, or emails sent on days other than Fridays as well?

no idea, just recall them saying decisions ramp up after new years and from what I saw in my previous cycle that seemed to be the case. I don't recall what days they emailed us though

I interviewed 9/18 and didn't get any email about a tour? Is anyone else in the same boat? The school as sent me literally no emails since the II

That's so weird. I got an email on 11/7 for 'prospective student visit day' (this was 7 days after my II)

I did not get any prospective student visit day emails and I got accepted last month.

Interviewed for Lead and MMI in October, no word. It’s super frustrating but hoping for news this month!!
Hi! I was wondering if I could ask you about the Lead interview since mine is coming up… if you could share the structure and how it was overall?

Did anyone attend the virtual small group discussion yesterday?

I missed it because I was at a dentist appointment that ran late..

My interview is scheduled for 1/21 so I’m hoping they didn’t keep tabs on who attended

(PS I’m IS and UMass is my top choice- I interviewed late last cycle as well so my neurosis is in full swing this time around)

I interviewed on 9/24 and have only received emails regarding the special subject of small group discussions since then. I don't think it is a terrible sign, considering some of those who have been accepted also did not receive those emails.

I’m pretty sure they don’t take attendance. I attended one a while ago and I’m quite sure they said that. No stress bc seems like there are some more coming up.

I attended yesterday, and it was very informal, similar to the Q&A sessions offered. They did say there was no RSVP/they weren't tracking attendance and I really believe that it does not affect your chances. Best of luck in the interview!

The interview wasn’t bad! You get 3 traditional interviews with either students or faculty members, etc. all of my interviewers were really nice. I prepared for it like a trad interview with the normal Qs and be prepared to elaborate on your application/talk about your experiences
Thank you!!! Are they 30 min each?

Looking at threads from previous years some applicants got IIs as late as February. I interviewed 9/24 and am still waiting to hear back, anyone else from this date still waiting??
I interviewed that week as well, also still waiting! I think they're just known for taking their sweet time. Nothing we can really do about it at this point, unfortunately.
