The last one I saw was Dec 10 - they might be doneHas anyone received an II, or is it safe to say it’s a wrap?
Lots of factorsJust a question about the TMDSAS match process in general: I found some Google Sheets reporting admission data from previous cycles on acceptances vs matriculants. For instance, in 2021 McGovern had 4247 IS applicants, 861 IS IIs, 377 IS acceptances, and 229 IS enrollments. In another dataset, McGovern had 445 IS acceptances and 228 IS enrollments. What constitutes an "in-state acceptance"? Does it include prematch offers and match offers on match day? We only match to 1 school on match day, so in what circumstances does one match to a school and not attend, other than receiving a pre-match? I suppose my questions can be summarized as: do schools match more applicants than they have seats for on match day?
Gotcha! So matches made on match day only account for some of the IS acceptances applicants have reported? And the last two scenarios on your list of factors would be post-match-day acceptances made on a rolling basis?Lots of factors
-some applicants get several prematches but only can Match to 1 place. That alone could account for a couple hundred “extra “ offers
-Match Day sorts that out
-After Match Day some will leave Texas for other states, filling in those blanks counts as more admissions offers
-Some people can’t start school this year for a variety of reasons, filling in those blanks counts as more admissions offers
Yes. And most schools don’t give a number of prematches equal to their class size so the rest go out on Match DayGotcha! So matches made on match day only account for some of the IS acceptances applicants have reported? And the last two scenarios on your list of factors would be post-match-day acceptances made on a rolling basis?
Not likelyany more prematches expected here?
1st year student here!Hi, if there are any current McGovern students here I have some questions:
-Are there internal rankings maintained throughout the preclinical period? If so, is that info released to residencies when applying or only used internally?
-During the preclinical years, approximately how many days of the week are there mandatory in-person sessions?
-Is lecture attendance optional and are they recorded?
Thanks so much for your time!
Thanks so much!1st year student here!
1. 1st semester is True P/F with no rankings assigned. After the first semester, I am not 100% sure, but as far as I am aware, McGovern does not officially internally rank. However, if you are interested in getting AOA, they do look at grades for both pre-clinical and clinical years (so I guess, in a way, there must be some kind of internal ranking). I believe there is no sort of internal ranking released to residencies (again could be wrong here).
Edit: Got some clarity from other students regarding this question. There is no official internal ranking but upon applying to residency, McGovern does list your grades on the committee letter they write about you for residency. They also list a distribution of the class grades showing where you roughly fall amongst the rest of the class.
2. During the pre-clinical years, there are a decent number of mandatory events. On a given week it is usually twice a week. The first semester is anatomy twice a week + other required sessions (skills, OSCEs, etc.). The second semester onwards is PBL twice a week + other required sessions (skills, preceptorship, etc.). I will say that the first semester definitely has more in-person components compared to afterward.
3. Lecture attendance, for the most part, is optional, and they are required.
McGovern at MD Anderson are technically closely related because they are both schools under UTHealth Houston. I will say that a lot of their research programs technically consider McGovern students just like any other students. But, there is a close association and some of the faculty are shared between both institutions (so that should make it easier to do research between the two). I am not 100% sure about the rotation part. But a quick Google search shows that MD Anderson runs some of them through McGovern. Also found this link regarding medical student rotations at MD Anderson: Rotations to MD AndersonHi guys, I have another question as the deadline for rankings is coming up.
Is McGovern closely affiliated with MD Anderson? Would it be straightforward to conduct research with faculty there? And if I wanted to take an oncology elective, would doing it at MD Anderson be considered an away rotation?
They are both owned by the State of Texas and hence sister institutions.Hi guys, I have another question as the deadline for rankings is coming up.

Are you getting money from either?Hi, if there's any current McGovern students, would love your input to the below questions. I pre-matched to both McGovern and UTMB and trying to weigh each:
1. Could you share your views on the pros and cons of McGovern and your experience there?
2. I understand McGovern records all lectures. How does it make them available to the students?
3. I know McGovern is P/F first semester only. How does that impact the competitiveness/collaboration of the students?
4. Other than 2nd Semester grades, what factors go into being selected for AOA?
Feel free to DM me if that is preferred. Thanks in advance for any insights you are willing to share.
No.Are you getting money from either?
Thanks for mentioning #4 that is very important Determined. If i can add to this, can any enrolled student mention this:Hi, if there's any current McGovern students, would love your input to the below questions. I pre-matched to both McGovern and UTMB and trying to weigh each:

I did not prematch and I got those emails. This was probably sent to everyone that interviewed.I prematched in October and received the Q&A emails. Anyone else?
Also, for those that pre-matched, did you receive any other communication?
Lol fair. (Is that possible lol)I did not prematch and I got those emails.
This either means that I am going to prematch or they are relegating you to non-prematch status.
(before you go into cardiac arrest... I am joking. This was probably sent to everyone that interviewed)
It should only be possible if McGovern were to suddenly decide to close shop on everyone. Additionally, this school is rather particular with their offers before match day, so they REALLY want you there - just don't commit any felonies for a few months and you should be able to keep it. 🙂Lol fair. (Is that possible lol)
@etxapplicant36 applicants are on edge enough and this was not a funny joke. Out of character as you are generally helpfulI did not prematch and I got those emails.

Per the email they sent this morning, attendance has no bearing on admissionsI had to miss q&a due to commitments. Will it be a ding against me?
Sooner the betterAt the Q&A they mentioned that letters of intent could be uploaded before the match. Does this need to happen before ranks are due (1/31) or do schools typically accept letters between rank day and match day? Submitting a day before match day probably won't do me any good, so I'm striving for in the next couple days since this is my top choice school.
Your rankings are set in stone at this point, unless you do something incredibly egregiousI had to miss q&a due to commitments. Will it be a ding against me?
You will see your results by logging in to your TMDSAS portal after 8am on Friday Feb 14.So nothing happens till match day, right?
In match day, what time does the email come? Tell me more, little anxious about it.
It will simply read "No Match"How will your account show if no match?
OOS students can keep many offers until May 1st even in Texas. .Thanks. I look forward to your post. I still do not understand how the wait list works when someone receives multiple offers and withdraw from the matched school unless the offers are from oos.
They will likely wait to see if you match thereHave prematch acceptees received any information/packets/emails other than the actual prematch email?
other than scholarship offer, haven't heard anythingHave prematch acceptees received any information/packets/emails other than the actual prematch email?
