2024-2025 Medical College of Georgia

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to everyone who got the A today!

In terms of what happens next typically, expect WL to be released within next week or two? If so, what is outlook on that typically
I did some digging into last year's (2023-2024) thread for MCG, and from what I could tell, it seems like WLs started coming out the following week after the mid-February wave. The people notified on their WL decision heard on February 22nd, which was a Thursday in 2024. I don't think there's a set day next week we can expect a decision. It seems like folks on the WL started getting As around May 1st with a couple more getting As over the next several days. I wish MCG released statistics on their WL movement, but oh well...

Yes I'd send a LOI if I were you. It'll at least keep you on their radar for waitlist. The worst that can happen if what you're expecting anyway.
Great point, I'll definitely get cracking on that LOI. Good thing I didn't cancel my Grammarly Plus subscription +pity+

Edit: typo

After being accepted regular decision, is the packet that you have to fill out and return binding?? So do i actually have two weeks to decide if I want to go or not?

No, it is not binding!

A decision does not need to be made until April 15 (narrow to 3 schools) and April 30 (narrow to 1 school).

Just noticed this on admit.org, first WL I've seen anywhere for MCG. It says it was sent 2/14, but idk, didn't hear anyone else get WL.

Maybe they were just assuming it would be a WL because they weren't in the February A wave?

I hope so man, I’ve been so tense since I saw that ugh. My gut feels like post-II Rs will come out tomm and then WL Thursday. Let’s hope that’s all wrong and they somehow whip out one last A wave lmao. Although GroupMe quickly reaching 200 students so I think it’s getting bleaker.

How many people are in the groupme now?

198

MCG’s yield rate is roughly 65%, so realistically about 130 of those are going to commit!
Thanks for the update! What does that mean for waitlist movement? Do we have a decent chance of getting an A off the waitlist? Better phrased, how many people get WL’d vs post-II R

Unfortunately MCG does not provide this information on the MSAR, so I am unsure! I would expect there to be some waitlist movement, though.

Anyone know if waitlist emails are supposed to come out this week? Also I remember seeing somewhere that post ii-Rs usually come out the Monday before, so if we don’t get any email today, is it safe to assume it’s a WL?

Where did you see the thing about the post-II R coming the Monday before WLs get sent out? I haven't seen this info before. Based on Cycle Track and last year's thread, it seems like it's more of a soft R kinda deal once you get past the interview stage. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong if anyone else has more knowledge on this.

I think MCG does send post-II R's. I recall seeing them somewhere on a SDN thread, but not certain for sure. It's probably just the fact that not many applicants posted their post-II R updates on SDN, so the traffic we see on this thread can only tell us so much tbh.

I have 2 theories in play rn for MCG's WL. One theory is that a handful get post-II Rs and the rest get WL on a ranked basis. They'll then pull off the WL based off one's ranking. The other theory is that its 60% post-II R and the 40% get WL (picked on ranked basis). My question now is with how the ranking will be done. Also, as a regional clinical campus pathway applicant, idek how or if they'll even use a WL for that b/c I have been assuming all this time that the applicant pool for the regional pathway was way more smaller than the main campus one. I am kind of tempted to email them after I hear back on their decision to ask whether being a waitlisted regional pathway applicant will 1) put me on the main campus list and 2) boost my ranking by any means. Highly doubt they'll answer #2 tho.

P/S: I have lost all sanity through this application cycle and everything I type above could just be utter BS and wrong lol.

That’s what I think was said in a thread at some point. And I gaged this looking on past threads. In the more recent cycles post-II Rs were released the Monday before the final acceptance wave on Friday. In a few earlier cycles, post-II Rs were released the Monday before the WL wave. So assuming that the trend still holds, if WLs are coming out this week, and this past Friday was the last true acceptance wave, then if we haven’t heard any news yet, I’d assume it’s a likely a WL and we now just have to wait for that official email to come out. I don’t think MCG ghosts once you’re past the interview stage, but I guess being placed on the WL indefinitely is a sort of soft R in a sense.

Also a regional applicant and curious how that plays into things

So it begins, IS II 11/14, WL 2/18.

Wishing you guys the best of luck to hopefully get off the WL. If anyone else is a WL applicant on the regional pathway, let me know if you would like me to email admissions and ask about whether we will be considered for main campus now or still the NW/SW campuses.

Alternate List 2/18 4:42PM
Interviewed 12/5/24
Alt list is WL right. I’m neurotic

WL email just recieved 4:41 PM. Interviewed 1/9.

Hoping for the best! Just relieved it’s not a straight up R. GL to everyone else who’s also on the WL 🙏🏾
Same! While I am sad it wasn’t a straight away A, it could’ve been so much worse getting the R. I think we should all be super proud of ourselves for getting this far. We shall cope together yall <3

I just now noticed that the email says that they could still call people off the WL until “late July 2025” 😭😞 The wait’s about to be brutal.
Yeahhh, it's gonna be a long ride. Best thing to do right now is to focus on other schools rn and just ride the positivity train to avoid prolonged anxiety.

Given this is the first year of the regional clinical campus pathway, how will the WL work now? The email I got seemed to imply that I was now being considered for all campuses and not the pathway. Does that mean I got rejected from the pathway, but not for other campuses?

I also wonder how WL ranking will play into all this. Am I filling in spots for people who decline their A from the pathway or from any campus? I have a TON of questions, so I will call up admissions tomorrow to hopefully get a more clear picture.

So did everyone who interviewed but didn't receive an A get waitlisted, or are there still interviewees waiting for an answer/update? Tryna gauge the importance of being WL'd
If I feel confident about one thing, it’s that everyone who has interviewed has received some form of decision now.

Whether it’s a WL or Post-II R, I don’t really know bc I haven’t seen anyone on the thread post about an R, but then again, the thread only captures a fraction of the total applicant pool.

I’d imagine that not everyone was WL, but there’s just no way to know exactly how many got WL.

I'm just going to write this WL as a R bc I didn't really horrible in that interview and the WL is so big. I can't keep hoping. Good luck to everyone else though

Just got off the phone w/ admissions and kinda got a better picture, but it was kind of vague tbh. I also asked questions more from the perspective of being a regional campus applicant:

- WL is one list, regardless of whether we were regular pool or regional.

- Unknown if regional have higher precedence to take a regional spot, should it open up. Person on the phone alluded to individual rank determining who gets that spot. Sooo maybe they do rank regional applicants higher and just won't tell me, idkk lol.

- Regional campus pathway students will not be passed up for an A spot at any other campus.

- They do take LOIs/Updates in portal for WL'd applicants

Hope this helps you guys. I guess all of us on the WL are now fair game for every campus and its gonna come down to whatever rank we're given. For you regional guys, I think its best to assume that there won't be any advantage given by being a regional applicant. We're likely being evaluated on the same level as regular pool. Not 100% sure, but that's what it seemed like on the phone call.

I mistyped that they accept LORs btw. It’s actually that they accept LOIs (Letter of Intent). Sorry!!

Does picking a campus as your first choice affect your ability to get off of the alternate list and if so does it make the most sense to pick Augusta since they have the most spots available?

For people who got waitlisted, have they sent the campus preference form to you yet, or is it in the portal? I haven't gotten anything, and I want to make sure I am not missing it.
