2024-2025 Meritus SOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
anyone know how filled their class is? currently one of my top choices
Speculation on my part, but there’s currently 26 members on the accepted FB group and since I like to assume that half of the accepted students either don’t know about the group (whether they aren’t on FB or SDN enough or whatever), my own neurotic brain is telling me they are about half full, maybe a little over. They opened later in the cycle, and apparently there’s a waitlist already. Therefore i’d expect lots of movement from waitlist considering some accepted students might get other As and want to go somewhere more established. (I hate this. If it wasn’t so cold outside, I would go touch some grass.)

I am taking MCAT on Feb 17. Is too late to apply for this cycle?

I know you didn’t ask me, but it does seem pretty late because you’d get your score back in March. Some deadlines may have passed already for secondaries.

To those who attended the January information session for Meritus:
  1. What was mentioned about the dress code?
  2. How does room/roommate assignment work for Meritus Commons?
  3. What items are allowed in the dorms?
  4. Any other insightful information from the session?
I'm registered for the March session and would appreciate details on the process:
  • Is it a full-day event or can we drop in at any time?
  • If not, how long does the session typically last?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Meritus Commons is an apartment building, not a dorm. No roommates (unless you want them) and a full apartment to do what you would normally do. Pets are allowed as well.

The event starts with a few slides about the school, but then goes to the brand new academic building. I was really impressed with how nice everything was. They even let us test out the virtual anatomy headsets. There wasn’t much furniture set up, but the spaces are massive. This is my top choice school because of my tour experience.

How are y’all dealing with the whole no federal loans situation? When do you need to secure a private loan by? I feel like not a lot of people are talking about that for some reason

Thanks for the info. In the email I got it says, the information session is happening between 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. EST. Is it a whole day event or are they having multiple sessions at different times?

Did they say anything about Dress code, because online many D.O. have particular dress codes?

Exactly, I'm concerned about the same thing. Do you know what is the school code when submitting our FAFSA form. I can't find it online.

There’s is none lol. Fasfa is federal loans. MSOM doesn’t qualify for it yet thus no code.

OOS II received, anyone know if they're still interviewing for open seats or waitlist positions?

I see you around other forums, and I wanted to say congrats!! I wish I had the answer to this question, but I do not think they are full at all. Can I ask when you submitted your secondary?

Wow I feel so famous LOL. Thank you! I actually submitted last week (oopsies). Figured I'd shoot my shot since it's close to home and I'm okay with being part of an inaugural class. I also attended their information session the other day which helped in giving me that last push. I'm pretty low stat (low 60s LizzyM) so I'm just glad to get some love rn.

I’m an employee of Meritus health and they sent an email out to all employees stating this.
Thank you for confirming. Did the email mention a specific reason for this?

I'm sure it's none of our business... but as potential students, I feel it is important to know of any non-personal factors that led to our inaugural dean's departure before the first class even began... 😱

Hi guys, how are you guys going about the private loans? Are there specific lenders to look at? I see housing is required at the school as well as a meal plan. With the tuition flat rate being $58,500, what lenders are you looking at?

I foresee a majority of applicants right now holding off as they await decisions or WL status from other schools. However, in most cases, the answer will typically be which lender can give you the lowest interest rates and what each student's credit looks like LOL.

Is this true? This is a rumor I’ve seen circulating and what does that mean for its inaugural class?

Based on what I’ve read, the curriculum will remain unchanged, so it seems like everything will stay the same—just with a new dean

is there anyone that interviewed in jan that wasnt WL?

I'm interviewing soon I guess it's already over for me before it even began 🙁

My thoughts exactly- it seems like everyone who post they had an interview comes back with a WL. I wonder how long this WL is
Check back on the first post of this thread Here to see that they are still accepting primary apps to this school until April, because they were approved to take applications only in September 2024.
New applications are probably slowing down now and they will want to hold off on most admissions offers until they have seen the entire pool.

anyone at least know if it's a ranked waitlist?
Not sure, I wanted to know myself. It sucks if they keep a significant amount of people on the WL because the chances become very low for everyone and you don’t really know if you have an actual shot.

The WL email states:
“Thank you for choosing the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM) to pursue a career in osteopathic medicine. At this time your application has been placed on the waitlist. Though not selected for admission at this time, it is important to note that your application will receive full consideration for admission as the process continues between now and July. It will be important for the Committee to have your updated fall grades and MCAT scores as soon as possible, if applicable. Please note that being placed on the waitlist does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Please confirm or decline your Admission Waitlist notification via your”

No clue. I messaged Jessica from admissions and asked and she just said she isn’t on the committee so she isn’t sure, but that they are constantly reviewing apps to pull of the waitlist.

im torn between applying to this school bc it is super close to my home and I would LOVE to stay at home but I got accepted to more established schools that are around 2hours + away from home... not sure if I want to sacrifice going to an brand new school for the location, any advice??

take into consideration that federal loans are not yet available for Meritus
