Remember to schedule your Casper exam.

Hi, is Casper required this cycle? I’ve seen last posts saying it is not required. Just want to make sure.
Thanks

If I sent my CASPer to Miller before realizing it is not required, and I do poorly, do you guys think it will hurt my chances a lot? I haven't gotten my quartile back but the thought has been in the back of my mind. TIA!!!

I got accepted while it was required and I got the worst quartile, you’ll be okay.

To be honest with you, they probably won't even look at it. If they're not requiring everyone to do it they can't hold it against you (Or from the other perspective, the score can't help you either).

Hi Everyone, Regarding LOR requirements - Is a committee letter packet the same as a committee letter? Thanks!

I was a student at Miami so we kind of all get the packets - to my knowledge a committee letter packet is a committee letter PLUS all of your other letters in one packet (that’s how the Miami advisor does them)

But I think if you have just a committee letter it should be the same thing if that’s your question 🙂

Yes, thank you! I have a committee letter and 1 science letter along with other non-science LORs. The way it's worded on their website had me wondering if I needed 2 science letters without the "packet"

+1 OOS but some ties to Miami. Do they screen and then send secondaries? Wasn’t aware of that.

+1 OOS for the email everyone else got. It seems like they are sending secondaries later than last year.
Do they screen mcat scores/subsections?

Per AAMC and their website, they screen very minimally.

"It is UMMSM’s policy to send secondary applications to most U.S. citizens and permanent residents who submit AMCAS applications. When deciding whether to complete and submit the secondary application, consider these characteristics from our previous three entering classes to determine whether you will be competitive:

  • 3.7 average undergraduate cumulative GPA
  • 3.6 science GPA
  • 505-515 average old MCAT composite score"

Last year they sent out secondaries automatically and almost immediately. Is there a new protocol where they are delaying and waiting to send secondaries later in the month?

it was the first secondary i got. I think they are likely revamping their entire admissions process. They also changed their entire system last year and are no longer requiring Casper.

Thought I had them on my primary list all this time and turns out that I didn't!! (Submitted primary 6/5, was transmitted 7/3)

I added them today but someone plz help soothe my neuroticism and tell me it's all good :0

They haven’t even sent any secondaries so you’re not behind at all

If my application has nothing to do with eyes or ophtho, but I recently shadowed an ophtho and want to go down that path, you think I should mention the Palmer Eye Institute in my secondaries or no?

Should I focus on something that aligns with my personal statement and previous activities?

Did you get your secondary already? Or are you writing last years

Case is sending them out in batches this week. I am OOS and got it yesterday but they said they are sending out a few each day all this week

does umiami miller have any student groups/orgs

just trying to learn more about the school but when I try to view the listing of student affairs it asks me to log in

Still no OOS secondary invite here, received the email 11 days ago saying they got my AMCAS.

Same, from what I have gathered from old posts, I am guessing Miami is manually reviewing apps before sending them out? I dont think they screen so maybe it is just taking them longer...

I wonder what they are reviewing, given that they don't screen with hard cut-offs. I know they say below 505 is "noncompetitive" so maybe they are just cutting off most people <505 idk

we have to remember that its not in their best interest to do too stringent secondary cut offs because they make a lot of money from secondaries

Received confirmation of primary verification on 7/9 and still haven't received secondary. Am I cooked

EDIT: got one 8/9
