How do you feel about the 2 year preclinical? Do you feel as though you still had enough time to decide on a specialty?

In clerkships are you graded solely on your own performance, or graded against your peers?

Thanks for stopping by!!!
It’s fine. You don’t know what you don’t have so i can’t say whether I’d have preferred a shorter preclinical period. I will say that we finish organ blocks in February of M2, so it’s really closer to an 18 month preclinical with a 3 month summer break. That being said we were all feeling ready to start hospital rotations by the end of it.

For choosing a specialty, there’s more than enough time and a TON of career exploration opportunities around campus. I don’t know a single person who wasn’t at least narrowed to 2-3 specialties halfway through M3, and just about all of us were settled before going into step 2

Grading is strictly based on your own merit. You aren’t graded against your co students and there isn’t a bell curve. Some years 60% of people honor OB gyn, sometimes it’s 30%, that percentage is noted in your MSPE for reference but it’s not like there’s a certain fraction of people who have to honor or high pass

I did not know this, but apparently Northwestern sends a few small trinkets in the mail to people who interview. Mine arrived today. Other interviewees should keep an eye on the mail 👀
Yup, just got mine yesterday. As a scribe, the pen is very nice and will be used extensively lol.

For sending in post-interview update letters, is there any specific terminology to be used? i.e. are they looking for "letters of interest"?

I just loved the interview experience here, but blanked on what they said about December acceptances? They said a small portion will be accepted early December, but there's no date on that right?

sorry this might sound neurotic but I'm worried that since I cannot attend any of the town halls (all during my work hours) that it might come off as disinterested...anyone have any insight?
If it makes you feel better this reminded me that there was a town hall today that I just missed lmao. I don't think they care too much since they know people are busy with work and school.

Does anyone know what the dress code is for the applicant town halls?

From my understanding, and according to the adcoms here, I do not think medical schools track demonstrated interest!

Just got an OOS II! Wondering if anyone knows if it's open/closed file for the interviews and if they're both 30 minutes or what's the vibe? Super excited about this one and would love any insight!
complete date if you don't mind? Congratulations!!!!!

All interviews are 30 minutes. Both faculty interviews are open-file. Student interview is closed-file. Vibe was very nice and conversational.

Had a similar experience! I think I had one MD and one non MD faculty member. All friendly, didn’t feel like I was getting grilled

Unless it’s changed, they typically send about 20% of acceptances around thanksgiving or early December. The remaining will go out in March (give or take). I don’t remember being told a specific date and it came as a happy surprise

Would it be too much to send 2 LOCIs? Sent 1 after my interview in September with updates, would want to send another one around now but I don't know if it's enough to just express my interest again and only have 1 minor update (college award)

Just did the exact same thing, I submitted one two and a half months ago right after my interview late August. I don’t think it’s a bad idea, and I plan on sending another mid January after the first round of decisions (December). Multiple Feinberg students have told me they like to see continued interest.

Thank you so much!!

Just a precaution, try to maybe have at least like two updates, even if they’re small. Also the letter apparently doesn’t have to be too long, it can be shorter than the one you submitted earlier.
I have two updates but they are pretty small tbh :/ one is new, the other is slightly a continuation from one of my amcas activities? but a bit different

Hello. I was wondering how long we had to answer each question. Is it just a minute per question? or do some questions have more time

Someone on admit.org said they got accepted 11/12? Anyone know if they're already sending out acceptances?

New to thread, What is newsletter ?
Northwestern sends a newsletter to prospective applicants! We’re joking around and pretending it actually means something regarding admissions decisions, but don’t worry, it doesn’t! 🙂
They send it out once per month, and it has news at Feinberg and interesting aspects about their curriculum/programs

Could anyone speak to the general interview vibe? I have one coming up and kinda nervous 😅

Super casual conversation, did not feel like I was being grilled at all. More than one interviewer asked me which part of my application I'd like to discuss. They were genuinely interested in my application and how their institution would support my future goals.
