It’s fine. You don’t know what you don’t have so i can’t say whether I’d have preferred a shorter preclinical period. I will say that we finish organ blocks in February of M2, so it’s really closer to an 18 month preclinical with a 3 month summer break. That being said we were all feeling ready to start hospital rotations by the end of it.How do you feel about the 2 year preclinical? Do you feel as though you still had enough time to decide on a specialty?
In clerkships are you graded solely on your own performance, or graded against your peers?
Thanks for stopping by!!!
For choosing a specialty, there’s more than enough time and a TON of career exploration opportunities around campus. I don’t know a single person who wasn’t at least narrowed to 2-3 specialties halfway through M3, and just about all of us were settled before going into step 2
Grading is strictly based on your own merit. You aren’t graded against your co students and there isn’t a bell curve. Some years 60% of people honor OB gyn, sometimes it’s 30%, that percentage is noted in your MSPE for reference but it’s not like there’s a certain fraction of people who have to honor or high pass
