oos R complete 8/12 and I sent an update letter crying

8/20 feel like my time is coming soon. Why not just set the deadline to 8/1 if you're just going to reject everyone anyway?

I doubt they’re rejecting everyone all at once without reviewing their application. It seems like they’re offering interviews and giving out rejections as they go chronologically rather than keeping them waiting till March like most schools.

from cycle track, only 2 II were sent out since 10/8. That is nearly equivalent to rejecting every application with complete date 8/1 and after.

i usually multiple the cycle track # by 10-15x since most users don’t update or know about
cycle track. But yes, Pitt is one of those schools where not submitting early will bite you in the butt.

i wonder what the merit is for them to play it that way. like from an adcom perspective, what's the point of giving up high tier applicants to other schools for basically 0 point
I don’t think they intentionally penalize late applicants it’s probably they are just liberal with interviews for applicants they like early which, realistically, means they have less to give to “later applicants.” Tbh though it’s kinda known that you want to submit as early as possible though so I just view it as though who planned well are rewarded in a way

on admit.org there’s at least 15 ppl who received interviews with august or later submissions so i think saying “every” is a stretch but yeah Pitt j happens to be one where submitting later does have a larger impact. I guess it makes sense since their interview cycle ends earlier, i think mid dec? when i signed up back in sept only dec interviews were available

Yeah this is from their website. Looks like they’ll keep sending small batches til early December. (Cycle-track data from 2023 makes it look like Dec 01 is last day).

“Your Interview Day
The UPSOM begins extending invitations to interview by late July and will continue extending invitations until early December.

The interview season begins August 19, 2024 and concludes December 13, 2024. Interviews are conducted remotely and are offered on Monday, Tuesday, select Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. ”

Do they gauge our level of interest from info session attendance and factor it into our admissions? I just got an email asking me to register for info sessions prior to my interview date, but not every session has dates before my interview...

To my knowledge no, they say during the sessions that they have nothing to do with admissions. They also record some of them, as its not fair to expect everyone to be able to attend all the sessions live. I had a very early interview and sessions weren't even available until after my interview. I think it is encouraged because then you won't have a bunch of questions during your interview that they cover in those.

OOS Pre-II R in the portal no email. Submitted 8/20. This school's process is wack

+1 OOS R, no email. Edit: email received 🤣 Complete 8/19.

Brutal cycle so far. Keep your heads up kings and queens.

They’re getting painfully close to my complete date. Best of luck to everyone who heard back recently, hoping you’re successful at other schools
