Does anyone know if the student interviews are conducted by M1s or is it random?

Mine was an M2. They said they switch from M2 to M1 sometime during the interview season

Are we sensing an R for us 7/22 folks w no news yet?
Yea it seems like they send out Rs all at once and are well passed reviewing our applications. I mean ofc it’s possible to get an interview invite at this point but I think it’s more likely that we’ll be in the next wave of Rs they release

have a question for those who already had their interview! i am not really sure how to prepare for team exercise session, any advice??
There is nothing you can really do to prepare/no need to prepare. It is essentially just a conversation with a few other interviewees about an ethical scenario. A moderator is also in the room and they steer the conversation and ask questions. Just make sure to participate/give input/acknowledge the responses of your peers and do not try to dominate the conversation. It was a very relaxed setting, so try not to stress too much over it!

Anyone else get a thank you email for the Financial Aid Session (My interview is in two weeks and I did not do any financial aid session for this school)

i did and i attended the info session earlier today (not required)! did you accidentally sign up for it? it should tell you on the “interview management” tab

Does anyone know if Pitt actually cares about letters of intent or interest? (II: 8/1, interviewed late August). I know some schools care a lot, but I never see anyone mention them in regard to Pitt. Maybe only post-waitlist is worth it?

should i send pitt an update letter at this point? submitted and complete 7/22 and no news from there. i have worked on 3 service initiatives at a free clinic ive been working at since freshman year of college

Is the update that you have worked on three initiatives since submitting your secondary? Did you already touch on this in your original application or is there another update? Most schools seem to only do post-interview or decisions updates. This is what Pitt's FAQ says:
  • When is it an appropriate time for me to follow-up with the UPSOM?
Our Admissions Committee welcomes letters of intent/interest and updates to your application. The most appropriate time to follow-up with us is following your interview or after the receipt of your official admissions decision. Communications can be sent via postal mail or to our admissions mailbox at admissions@medschool.pitt.edu. Any communication received from the applicant will be included in their admissions file within 24 – 48 hours upon receipt. Applicants can check the admissions portal to confirm that their documents were added to their application.

I would recommend sending Pitt a letter of interest at any time that you have an update that you deem worthy of one. The committee really appreciates continued interest. Save the Letter of Intent for post-interview either before or after decision (Whenever you know Pitt is your #1 choice after the interview). I submitted my letter of intent post-interview and pre-decision, and I was waitlisted. Obviously, I ended up getting off the waitlist with the first waitlist movement of my cycle. Just my two cents from an old M4.

I want to send an update to show interest in November/December, but I have yet to start any new activities. Would it be ok to demonstrate my continued development in my current activities (I mean, they must have liked them if I got an interview, right?) and how I have continued to grow? Or would finding a new activity be a preferred route?

I was kinda under the impression that update letters are really for big updates (new publication, you've been working at a new place for a couple months), not just saying that you've been continuing the same activities they're already aware of. I could be completely wrong, but I think sending an update letter without anything actually substantial on it can do far more harm than good, especially if they've already given you an interview.

so apparently Pitt doesn't send R's via email? I just checked my portal and got an R but never received an email about it?? Idek when I got rejected lmfao

i think their portal system might just be delayed in general, i got an II and only caught it because i happened to check the portal and didn't get an email about it until later. not sure if other people got emails tho

thats dumb af 💀 that was like my first time checking the portal since I submitted my secondary 3 months ago. you'd expect schools to be more professional about these things :/

Yeah I don't know what they are doing this cycle. According to the thread from last year people got emails 🙁

8/2 complete also waiting for the rejection to come LOL 😆 what can you do but wait patiently anyways

Would updated Spring term grades be a significant update?

Would updated Spring term grades be a significant update?
To my understanding it would not be. Maybe if you have had a historically low GPA and made a huge jump to a 4.0 the semester that would be an exception (though I still don't think that is recommended). I have been told like the other person said to only update with something truly significant as in a publication, new position that you can now share an experience/insight from, an award, etc. Also an aside, but I feel like they should have your spring grades already from your transcript? Do you mean fall?

Tbh I feel like the especially if they passed your submission date you have nothing to lose. I think it’s kind of a lot to send multiple updates without many significant changes, but if you don’t anticipate sending another update I’d go for it/also maybe combine it with why you are still interested in the school as a reminder you are still here/waiting

This is to maybe give some people a glimmer of hope, but my friend who got in last year forgot to hit submit on her application until September and didn't receive her II until November and interviewed in either December or January, I cannot remember. So just wanted to remind people its not over until its over!

When I submitted my official transcripts back in June, I don’t think Spring grades were published yet.

wondering if it is acceptable to send a pre-II update to Pitt? It's hard to glean from the language on their website whether this would be a nuisance or not, I also submitted 7/20 and haven't heard back so it's likely that I may have already been rejected. Pitt is a top choice for me though and I have 1) submitted two new publications and 2) started a new job (so substantial updates). any advice on whether I should send a letter?

Was also wondering this as a 7/22 submitter

I agree with lonelywoolf and the other commenters that if you have substantial updates (awards, publications, new meaningful experiences), it can’t hurt to set an update pre-II, if you are waiting for a decision!

Edit: the whole thread didn’t load for me before I posted but I agree with everyone else!

Once again, I'm an M4 at Pitt. If you have something worthy of an update be sure to send it!!!!!! It may get some eyes on your app!!!! (I sent a letter of interest today and got a residency interview out of it. Just letting y'all know the residency application process is very similar to what you are doing now.)

As far as thinking you are out of the running for an interview by not hearing back by now, that is incorrect. I did not get my interview invite until 10/31 of my cycle and I scheduled a 12/1 interview. We interview until some point in January so I think y'all are reading way too much into things. Pitt gets over 10 thousand applications a year and it takes time to sort through them all. I have no idea how they sort or if they go in order but I promise if you haven't gotten an R, you are still in the fight.

I won't be a physician until May but I'm officially prescribing y'all some chill pills.
