2024-2025 UTMB (Sealy)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You all are imagining things. :)
I thought everyone got the preview day invite? Is that not the case? I thought that the general consensus was there was no discrimination for preview day and everyone who interviewed got it, but now you are implying that what I'm saying is not true.

Whether or not any of the conjecture is true doesn't change how your application is going to fare here. I think it's best to just leave it and if you want to preview campus it may be worth reaching out via email if you interviewed but did not receive the invitation. Maybe some intern forgot to press a button.

I agree. It's all very confusing when one person says one thing and another person says another and the school says another thing. You are right, at the end of the day it does not matter too much if what texasvandy and tcorrea are saying that only certain people get preview day invities is true or other people like myself saying that everyone who interviews gets the preview day invite is true. If you get the match or if you do not get the match is all that really matters at the end of the day.

I dont believe the school is notifying whoever is sending out the visit invitations who they are admitting. Most schools have a policy for visits that says after an interview or after a prematch. They have sent out invites and opened 450 slots. If the slots fill up, they have to open more slots before they can invite more people or if they dont fill up, they will send additional invites soon. It is all about scheduling. Just because everyone is eligible they are not going to send out 1200 invites all at once.

I dont think they are going to open more slots though. It seems to me that according to the email, they plan to do 1 preview day every Friday starting mid Dec (excluding the holiday weeks). The last preview day is late Jan. I dont think schools still do preview day after match rankings are submitted do they? Perhaps im reading too much into the tea leaves lol.

I do not think anyone knows for sure, but their perspective is valid and so is yours. No one really knows the answer, but us discussing different ideas is always good because it gives people the opportunity believe whatever theory they want and hopefully give them some comfort in the process.

it can also be possible that they expect less than 50% of interviewees to attend preview day and hence only opened 450 slots while also inviting everyone. Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. That's enough tea leaf reading for me today though lol.

Does anyone have an idea of approximately how long it takes to hear back after the interview? Thank you!

For everyone speculating about preview day, take a deep breath! It does not impact your admission either way if you come to one or not. Second, not all candidates can afford to travel to every schools preview day. I’m sure the school thinks about the fact that not every single interviewed candidate is going to sign up. From last year, every interview candidate was invited to tour. Finally, there is a very similar event in the spring for people who match to utmb. There will be plenty of time to see Galveston, meet your classmates, find a place to live, and explore the island. Take a breath and try to enjoy this time as much as you can.

Just got an II a few days ago! I really thought they stopped sending interview invites so it was a pleasant surprise.

I was lurking on last year's forum, and the first round of pre-matches was sent on December 15th at around 2 p.m. The latest interview date for a pre-match (Dec 15) was the first week of November. The next wave was in mid/late January. Then, match day. I just wanted to share my findings :3

Hey folks, let me lay this to rest. I connected with one of our admissions directors and here's the summary:

1. Everyone who interviews gets invited to campus preview day.
2. It IS NOT an indicator of anything. Does not indicate you're on the list for a prematch or a match, does not indicate your ranking.
3. Attending a campus preview day has NO BEARING on your admissions. In full disclosure, I did not attend campus preview day here or anywhere else. I got a prematch.
4. If you did not receive the invite, please reach out to admissions via email and they will resend you the link to sign up.
5. You are correct that there are less slots than interviews. That's an issue of capacity, not of admissions. First come first serve so sign up if you want to come.

So the first round of pre-matches won’t come out until next week

@Hanako-kun if you are using the Tapatalk app to post on SDN, try deleting it and re-installing it to get rid of the odd emoji barrage on your posts. If this doesn't work, try replying to posts without quoting the previous poster.

if it happens it'll probably be on or around the 20th, considering they literally have an interview session on the 17th. If it doesn't happen on the 20th I really doubt it'll happen on Christmas week, but we'll see.

How does UTMB do rolling admissions? It seems that they wait until all interviews are finished before sending out decisions. I am curious what their rolling process entails.

"Rolling admissions" is a term better fitting with the AMCAS schools: Some schools have it, meaning they give out offers intermittently through the application/interview season, and some don't and have 2 or 3 decision release days only.

For TMDSAS schools there will be some offers made before January 31, then most will find out their results on Match Day (Feb 14, 2025 this year).
The "rolling admissions" period described in the TMDSAS Guide means that AFTER Match Day, any seats vacated by people leaving their Match school for a different offer will be filled as needed, by a school offering admission to people on their wait list (WL).
This post-Match rolling admissions period is usually wrapped up by early June, with a tiny chance of later offers up until orientation begins.

I’m back lurking after a full year. I was accepted last cycle and went to preview day and I guarantee there is no weight on your acceptance. However it’s a time when I met a lot of people in my class and genuinely enjoyed the whole experience. UTMB has been probably my best choice and I hope to see the new bright future at preview day!

My crystal ball says UTMB will prematch a bunch before Christmas. They already should have a list ready to go but waiting on the last interview date.

Do we have to pay up for this crystal ball or is it free this time?

I emailed them for a date and they said dates for early offers vary each year. :(

if I were admissions, I would not give a specific date or time. In the chance I miss sending the offers then I’d have a flood of emails and speculation.

It’s either next week or after the holidays, in my opinion. My money is on 18th .

Will this round include late November interviews?
I just took a look at last year's thread and it seems that a large variety of people from August - November received prematches in the first wave (which took place Dec 15th last year)

If any of y'all came to Galveston today early, pm me if you want to get dinner or see the area!

For anyone coming to previews!

Restaurant recommendations: Galveston has amazing local food. Thai Garden, The Original, Leeland House, Vida Agave, Katie’s. Highly recommend trying these if you’re in town!

Driving: be cautious as Galveston has many one way streets and an occasional distracted tourist. Cruise ships swap passengers on Saturday- Harborside Dr is busy on saturdays in particular.

Enjoy your time here, get to know your potential future classmates! Remember to relax, you are not being evaluated. Try to get a feel for the school and town and if you personally would like it here. Preview day sold UTMB for me and I’m so happy I ended up here. As always I’m happy to answer any questions, feel free to message me. Have fun!
