has anyone successfully moved their interview date at this school and do you think it negatively impacted you…?

It shouldn’t matter because they know that schedule conflicts arise
Know that they plan to be done with interviews in December so don’t ask for one later than that

MS2 here, class size is 235 🙂 not sure what happened last year haha!

Please read my post here about moving interview dates btw!

Didnt a new dean take over in 2023 and change the way prematches are handed out, i.e., starting after interviews?

Yes they do make a goodly number of prematch offers but wait to do so until all interviews are completed.

Does anyone know if UTMB is finished with sending out interview invites? Looks like there might be one more batch but not sure!

Nothing really; I was just bored lmao.

It's just an invite to tour the campus; I'm pretty sure most people (not all, for some odd reason) who were interviewed will get this email.
Is it really not sent to all interviewees? I wonder how much it reflects a good chance at prematch and/or acceptance.

interviewing this week and lowkey nervous. anyone who's interviewed here have any advice?

I believe there might be another batch for the December dates, but after that I am unsure if there will be more after. They will be doing campus visits starting on December 13, but I will be attending one in January. I hope you are to get one!

It is honestly pretty chill. You will have some clinicians, a student, and faculty, so a good mixture. 8 minutes goes by incredibly fast so try not to ramble, leave time for follow up questions. have a one-word summary for your application 🙂 it really is not too bad it goes insanely quickly

They are almost done, maybe one more batch. Past few years they finish pretty early in the cycle at the middle of November because they like to finalize their rankings and send prematches early.

Not sure what you meant by this. The admissions timeline changed pretty significantly last year. Our last interview date is 12/12 so you can receive an invite until pretty close to then (although batches may be done, if someone withdraws or declines then schools will usually pull folks in to fill the slot). Our prematches do not start to go out until mid/late December, unlike other schools who start sending in October, so I’d say we’re actually late prematch, not early. And before last year, folks were interviewing well into January so by no means did the cycle end in middle of November.

Do we need to have our cameras on for the online orientation? I got scheduled to work during it unfortunately. I can take it during an extended lunch, but I’m going to be wearing scrubs

Has anyone that submitted the secondary in mid/late September received an interview invite? Thank you!

Howdy! I've been putting my MD/PhD IIs on the 2024-2025 MD/PhD Interview Invites thread but figured I should maybe share them on the school-specific posts for people who may not have found the Physician Scientists SDN community yet.

IS applicant; received separate IIs for MD and MD/PhD, as I opted to be considered for MD-only in the event of an MD/PhD R.
MD: Secondary received: 7/25; C: 7/28; II: 8/15 for 8/29 interview date
MD/PhD: Secondary received: 8/22; C: 9/5 (really let that one marinate haha but it paid off I guess); II: 10/31 for 11/7

I hope this info helps other applicants! If anyone is interviewing with MD/PhD during next week's date, would you mind trying to ask what the "next steps" will look like? They didn't spend a lot of time on "info session" or "Q&A" type events, so I didn't get the opportunity to ask.

Are these rejection pre-interview only? Last year a small group of students were talking about post-interview rejections. I am just curious if they are still doing that.

This was my first choice school when I initially applied, but after interviewing with another school, I realized that I just loved their program a lot more (KansasCOM). So, I realized that I was way more bummed finding out I was waitlisted for that school than I am getting my rejection from this school. I also have an acceptance from another school, so I am also not super stressed either since I am at least going to be a doctor 🙂 But still holding out for the KansasCOM!

Also received a pre-II R today. Along with my coworker. Seems like they have sent out all of their interviews for the season

Wonder why some of us have not received the R yet if they are done with sending interviews
Either it is a time consuming process to email the hundreds of you who unfortunately won’t get a chance at this school this year,
And/Or
There are still a few more interview slots open and they want to choose wisely who will get those.

I noticed that the same day the disappointing news emails started appearing, a few people got interview invitations instead

I hope KansasCOM will KansasCall you KansasSoon.

Hey 2 questions for current students:

1. What are some of the locations you can rotate to and what do you think of them. I know league city and the island are the main spots, but is downtown Houston also an option?

2. How are classes like? Are they pretty chill or is attendance something that is highly recommended

1. As far as I’m aware, you can do rotations at Clear Lake, League City, and Galveston. MS3/4 can correct me if that is wrong. League city and clear lake are considered commutable. They’re about 25-30 min from the Galveston campus. I do not believe downtown Houston is an option.

2. We do not have frequent traditional lecture. And if we do, most of them are optional. We primarily learn via PBL and TBL which I believe they go over during interviews. We usually have mandatory activities 2-3 hours a day 4 days per week. There are times when we have a 5 day week and others when we have a 3 day week. Usually 9a-12p or 10a-12p so very reasonable timing. We follow a block schedule with one class (Doctoring and Clinical Skills) that runs over the entire year. For DOCS we usually only have required activities 1 afternoon every 2-3 weeks with intermittent online assignments.
