2) What advantage do you see in attending WVSOM over other medical schools?

3) Describe an ethically challenging situation you have been in, and how you responded.

4) What do you feel it will take for you to succeed in medical school?

5) Provide a brief comment about your study habits.

6) Describe a situation in work, volunteer activities, or organizations where you demonstrated your ability to work well with others.

7) What experiences (living, working or visiting) have you had in rural areas?

8) Briefly comment on how your volunteer experience benefited you.

How are you answering the rural prompt if you have no rural experiences? I have underserved experiences though

I just put that I was open to both rural and urban areas.

@PapaGuava

Oh okay, thank you. I'm still new to these communities so I just want to make sure I know what everything stands for? Do you mind sharing stats? If not, completely okay.

On step 2 of the supplemental application it says "Have you been convicted of an infraction of local laws or city ordinances, summary offenses, misdemeanors, or felonies that are not listed on your AACOM application?"

Does this include traffic tickets, or is it just talking about felonies and misdemeanors?

I was confused about what to put here too because apparently those mean to include little stuff like parking tickets which every single person ever has had one of them and of course traffic tickets you have been convicted of. I'm 29 and have had plenty of speeding tickets throughout my life, one of em was a hefty one so I only brought up that one and what I learned from it.

I'm not familiar with the law, but couldn't you get it expunged and not have to report it? Or would you still have to report it even if it's expunged?

Where I am from, parking tickets are not charged to individuals and are considered a civil infarction. I truly do not think they're concerned about you having a parking ticket or two. Same thing for traffic tickets, unless you had some sort of offense along with those traffic tickets such as reckless driving due to speeding.

Like other schools, this question is likely trying to see if you have any legal issues (present or past) that may prevent you from medical licensing or the like.

edit: worst case scenario, contact the school if you're concerned. In my opinion, however, there's nothing to worry unless you have a misdemeanor, felony, or under investigation for those.

Their wording is convicted so if you were guilty of a crime you have to report it. I talked to my lawyer because I had a reckless driving charge due to speeding that got dismissed. So if a secondary ever said "charged" I had to report it but I never had to if they said "convicted".

yeah exactly, I seriously doubt they care about a seatbelt ticket or parking ticket lol everyone gets those

Gotcha, just making sure. I had a texting and driving ticket back when I was 19, just wanted to make sure that wasn't what they meant.

Will WVSOM consider a graduate science gpa to meet screening criteria?

I just got an email today saying that my application was "favorably reviewed, and you have been placed on our waitlist for an interview". submitted secondary 7/12

I'm an OOS applicant, 3.85 gpa / 513 mcat, talked about interest in rural medicine in secondary

I'm pretty nervous about getting an A this cycle because of how competitive it's getting, and don't know if this is a good sign or if i should take it as a soft R. I've never heard of a pre II waitlist, so would love any insight on what this means and how I should take it. Thank youu, all u guys are amazing! 🙂)

Out of curiosity do you have experience with a rural community or did you just indicate that you would like to work in one?

I talked about how visiting my dad's rural village in India ignited this passion since I saw how limited in resources they were. I was in an org at my undergraduate school (Cal) that specifically focuses on medical reallocation to rural areas and talked about that too.

Ah gotcha. Yeah I feel like from what I’ve seen WVSOM is very mission-oriented so I could imagine they want to interview students who are from rural communities or volunteered serving/worked directly within those communities in the US, especially in the WV region.

In your case I would take it as a good sign! Don’t fret friend, you’ll get an II soon enough!

6/28 secondary completed. 3.98 and 504! Just fyi seems like Aug 22nd is almost filled up the next upcoming interview dates are around Sept 9th!

I've heard this school accepts a larger than normal amount of in-state applicants, making it hard for OOS applicants to get accepted. Does anyone know if this is true or not?
