Auburn c/o 2017 Applicants!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know how many they put on the wait list, but they put them in an order, and as a spot opens up, Kaye will go in order down the list and offer the spot to te next person waiting. So if they went through 120 alternates before they filled up their 40 person OOS, then that gives us pretty good odds!

I've heard at least that they accept 70 originally for those 40 spots knowing some leave- then go to the wait list for potentially 71-120? I think they wait list up to #250 but that could have changed since I last heard.

Congratulations to all that have been accepted!

For those that are waitlisted, be patient and don't lose hope!

I was waitlisted as well, but I will be declining my spot. This will hopefully make someone else very happy very soon!!

Would it be safe to assume those waitlisted (and still hoping for a spot) will probably not hear much until around April 15th then?

Congrats to all those accepted and hoping everything works out for everyone waitlisted as well!

Waitlisted as well. 🙁 Second year applying. I am out of state and am waitlisted at my in-state school as well!

Does anyone know if Auburn will send us official acceptances through snail mail with more info? Or was our email the only acceptance letter?

Have any Kentucky contract students heard anything yet? Refreshing my email like a mad woman...

I am also a KY contract student and have not heard anything further about interviews as of yet. Hopefully soon! (I had my hopes up when I read about the Monday thread for others, but it doesn't seem that way for us).

How I feel about Auburn:

I second this feeling. It made me smile. ^_^ Also, hearing that you got in on the third application gives me hope. I am currently applying for the second time and tried to improve what they addressed from last year.

You will receive an official acceptance letter via snail mail with more information about orientation and such.

Congrats again!

For those of you on the wait list I will be giving up my spot as well to attend my instate school! Best of luck to everyone!!!

Has anyone else considered the Army program to pay for school? http://vetopportunities.amedd.army.mil/forstudents.html

I've been looking at it but wanted to hear what other people's thoughts/ experiences were.
I know some Army vets who have used the HPSP. Financially, it's a good deal. I do know that once you graduate, you don't do anything remotely related to working on animals for about a year, since your time will be used for other training, like food inspection and public health. I know a guy who ended up working on military working dogs (MWDs) exclusively overseas directly after that year and it was a shock for him getting back into surgeries. In other words, prepare for Army inefficiency and stupidity, but at least you won't be buried in debt and you'll be paid as a Captain, which is pretty decent pay as well. Working with the MWDs is pretty fun too.

Does anyone know if we're allowed to drop classes we don't need for prerequisites? I'm in some biology courses that I took in case I got into a different school. When I talked to LSU, they said it would be fine, but I'm wondering what auburns policy is

As long as you complete the classes the school your going to attend requires your good. I just dropped second semester O Chem for the same reason!

Actually you aren't allowed to. I emailed Kaye, because I took Orgo 2 for another school but Auburn doesn't require it, and she said you are not allowed to drop any of the classes that you were signed up for at the time of the interview.

So if we dropped the non-required class before our interview day , we are ok? Because I did that...

Yeah, I think that's ok! She told me that we have to stay in all the classes we were in when we gave them our schedule at the interview.

I'm so excited!!! I just have to talk to the military and hear from my IS school before I know for sure, but I loooooooved Auburn and can't believe I've been given the opportunity to go there!

It is a three year scholarship that you apply for in Jan after your first semester of vet school. The will look at your first semester of grades plus all of your grades for undergrad. They offer on average 17 per year from ALL schoools. ( so less than one student per school). Typically you must be in about the top 5% of your class to have a shot. I would suggest that you talk with a recruiter if you are interested.

Just received my email from Kaye to schedule my interview! YAY! Check your emails Kentucky contract applicants!

I also received my invite to interview at Auburn today. So excited! Kaye mentioned that they are sending them out in manageable batches for those of you who may not have heard. Last name starts with G if that means anything.

So I guess that means that contract students are going to be interviewed before in state... I was hoping to hear something soon. The waiting is driving me crazy!

I was wondering about that

Yea, this is BS, Kentucky folks! You're making us IS wait longer!

Hey, hey now....we are't the ones to blame. lol🙂 It's been agonizing here too. I'm just ready to get going already.

I second this sentiment. I suppose one way of looking at it is that you IS people could possibly save more in travel expenses. I know that pales in comparison to knowing quickly, but it's something. Soon enough for you all hopefully, all the best! 🙂

Haha we are like the same person! We applied to the same schools and I am strongly considering doing the Army Vet Corp... It would make a big difference tuition wise in choosing a school!

Well if we end up in the same place we can work on the application together!

My interview is scheduled for March 15th at 9am!

I'm on the 12th at 9am! I hope the OOSers fill out the interview feedback .... (oh please oh please) ^__^

March 11 at 1:00 for me! I called right at 8:00 because that's by far the best day for me and I didn't want it to fill up...turns out I forgot about the central time zone thing and I called them at 7:00 their time! Whoops! She was really nice about it and scheduled it anyway but I was pretty embarrassed.

Just got my interview invite, I am in state. SO excited!

Congrats to all those accepted and hoping everything works out for everyone waitlisted as well!

Mrs. Storey said that they would be calling people anytime they drop below 40 offered OOS seats. Hopefully we'll both get calls!

Anyone know how long it usually takes for those accepted to receive the acceptance/info packets?

What letter does your last name start with?

My last name starts with C. The email said that they would be sending them out in manageable batches so don't worry, I'm sure yours is coming.

A C? Good, I'm an H. Now I can stop obsessively checking my email and the spam box (just in case).

I got an email for interviews this afternoon. I'm IS and my last name starts with an "H." Once again, Kaye said they're sending out invites in "manageable batches."
I officially apologize for hating on KY residents for getting their invites earlier. I really actually like Kentucky people, even though some of them mispronounce town names like " Cadiz, Ghent, Athens, and Versailles."

Anyone know when we should expect to get our acceptance packet in the mail? Not sure how to send in my seat deposit, or how much to send for that matter....

There is no deposit to hold your seat. Not sure when to expect our acceptance packets though!

That is correct. Unfortunately, things don't seem to really start moving until that time. The number of waitlist positions that we go through every year is variable (it is usually pretty high though...somewhere around 100 as a general estimate). We generally don't let people know their place on the waitlist (which I know is frustrating). I hope this answers your questions. Feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions.

👍 To those individuals who are interested in pursuing the HPSP, I highly suggest that you do your research. As someone who has applied for it myself, I can tell you that it's not the easiest to get (I was waitlisted). There are a number of factors that go into the application process, but grades are definitely a big part of it. I will say that they don't just do 1 per school. Last year, 3 students from Auburn received the scholarship (in fact, Auburn tends to do better than most schools when it comes to this). Just my 2 cents.
