^^ This exactly.

But, I'm just going to tell myself it's not over til it's over. 🙂

Don't count yourself out until you hear from them directly! I'm not sure if it is the same with the international applicants but a friend of mine that was accepted a couple years ago was in a similar situation. All the applicants she knew received their acceptances on one day and she didn't receive hers until the following day. Try to keep your spirits up and I have my fingers crossed for you all 😀:luck:

👍

You have to keep in mind that they interview 60-70 international applicants, and they need to contact ALL of them with decisions. There's no way they're going to be able to do all that in one day. And they're not necessarily going to do all the acceptances first - they may just be going down the list of interviewed applicants and giving them their individual decisions one by one. So there's no need to freak out yet. Be patient! 🙂

This has been a really helpful thread, especially since I am also in the position of waiting for admissions to let me know where the next four years of my life are headed, lol. The people who have actively asked questions and provided feedback here are great examples of what our profession needs for a sustainable future!

Glad it was useful to you! Did you apply to AVC?

Yup, I applied in 2010 and now. I was an alternate for an interview the first time around and was ultimately denied. Luckily, I got an interview this time and now I'm just waiting to hear the final outcome...

Might be redundant, but do we get a phone call either way for the final decisions?

BlackDog alluded to that. Not entirely sure though.

Mine was an email, but I was offered early admission so that may be different. Only one SDNer has been offered regular admission so far, and she got a phone call. It's really anyone's guess as to how the rest of them will go out.

Just got an email that they are meeting today or shortly to rank atlantic province applicants and letters will mailed out on the 10th! 🙂

That's exciting!

I'm going to take that as decisions for international applicants are officially done. Now we must just be waiting for the registrar to send them out?

i wonder how long until internationals find out?!? 🙁 i just want closure lol

also, i'm surprised they even sent out phone calls, because last year and the year before (according to sdn) all acceptances were via e-mail

Yea last year everything was by email. I even found out I was wait listed by email it's a little weird their not doing email this year? Idk I just wanna know lol

the entire weekend i was preparing myself for bad news, but when you think about it, the majority of internationals sdn'ers that applied/interviewed to avc haven't heard anything, whether it be acceptance/rejection/waitlist...

The only one who got a phone call was Blondie, and she had one of the last interview dates. I'm wondering if maybe she was actually given an early admission offer, and they called her to make sure she got it before the regular offers went out? Just spitballing here.

Internationals, don't get discouraged! It's not over until the fat lady sings . . . or until admissions contacts you, whichever comes first. 😛

I hope the next week brings happy news to all of the international SDN'ers waiting to hear from AVC.

Thank you 🙂 At my interview, they said that they were meeting this past Friday for final decisions so we should hear within a few days of that, so I'm assuming (and hoping) we should hear by this week!

So I emailed Sharon King and she said she expects letters to go out this week. Sigh wish it was email so I don't have to stalk my mailbox like crazy lol

so it's definitely via snail mail now?

aagh now i'm freaking out and my anxiety is getting the best of me (per usual!). I'm just picturing bad news since all the good news insofar has been via e-mail/phone call 🙁

Ah my interview was the end of January, I've been waiting so long! If it is snail mail I hope it gets to me before I leave for spring break....:lame:

Speculating purely for the sake of it...and I have nothing better to do at the moment. Take from it what you will....

Daydreamer said that letters are being sent out, but per Blondies phone call, they are sending emails out this week. Not to say that either one of you are lying, but we seem to have some conflicting information!

Blondie, have you gotten an email yet perchance?

Just going off the information we have gathered on SDN: one person got a phone call, the rest have heard nothing. BlackDog maybe you are right, and Blondie was offered early admission? My initial thought was that Blondie seems to be a very eager and passionate person, and maybe someone on the adcom picked up on that and wanted to give her a heads up 🙂 ... But it appears that based on what she was told in her phone call that they were going "down the line" which implies that they were making many phone calls. Also, it doesn't make sense to me that they would suddenly send letters rather than emails. All the rejections I got were by email, except for one. From a purely economical standpoint, it is cheaper to send emails than mail letters to all applicants. And why would early admissions get emails but not letters? GAH.

BlackDog, did you get anything else yet? Email or packet?

Anyway, just tossing some ideas around. On another note, the longer it takes me to get a decision, the longer I am going to stress eat for. I would like to dedicate half of the giant bowl of ice cream I am currently mowing down to the terrible 12 hour workday I just had, and the other half to AVC <3 😀 What's a few pounds in exchange for admission, right?!

Just wanted to let those of you who haven't heard from AVC yet that I'm crossing my fingers for you! :xf: I hope you get good news soon. The waiting game is brutal. :luck:

I know letters go out to Canadian students regarding interviews either this week or next. Maybe she thought you (Daydreamer) were a Canadian student. I thought the American applicants received emails/phone calls and for some reason we get snail mail.

I seem to be the talk of this page lately and I can't tell if its good or bad...

The one thing I'd say is not everyone uses SDN so there may have been other people who received phone calls. Additionally, when she said "the committee has made their decisions and I am going down the list and you are next" I got the impression that I was not the first person she called. All I can do is be honest about the information I received and hope that it is somewhat helpful to those of you still waiting. I can assure you that if there has been conflicting information that I've been honest about everything I know...

I have not received a letter yet, during the phone call after she confirmed that I was still interested in attending and told me I was accepted, she informed me that I would be receiving my official letter this week (she did not specify when). She mentioned that many students apply to several schools and so we are calling to make sure you are still interested in attending AVC, so that gave me the impression that she was calling those on the list she was given to confirm their desire to attend.

I wish nothing but the best for all of you waiting and I am sorry if my phone call has created some confusion/stress for anyone. As soon as I receive my letter I will update the forum, in the meantime good luck to those waiting to hear.

This is what I think is going on too. The wait/speculation of what could be happening is awful. Good luck all!

That post was not meant to be inflammatory so I apologize if you got that impression. I don't think that you specifically are the talk of the forum, rather you are the one who has received the most information so far so that's all we really have to go off of. I never said that anyone was being untruthful, only that the information is somewhat conflicting. However, if you were told you would get a letter instead of an email then that is consistent with what Daydreamer was told. We are all just playing the waiting game right now and it is stressful, so don't feel as though people are talking about you in a bad way. Everyone is very happy for you, we just want our decisions too!

Everyone will eventually get an official letter one way or the other. Initial notifications to American applicants receive phone calls/emails and an eventual official letter. Canadians get their first correspondence through snail mail only. At least, that's how it's been done in previous years.

Sorry if my info caused some confusion I just wanted to let everyone know what Sharon told me. I asked her when international applicant should be hearing from AVC and she said that since the committee met late last week that she expected letters to go out sometime this week. I assumed she meant by email cause normally everything is by email for the internationals but when I asked her if it was going to be email or mail she wrote back mail. Idk why they decided not send emails like before but I guess we just have to wait and see...which stinks

I also e-mailed Sharon, and she responded to me as she did to daydreamer: letters (mail) are going out this week.

Information I gathered from AVC applicants in the past on SDN: acceptances were made by e-mail, rejections were made by letters in the mail

Anyone know off the top of their head how wait list is notified?

Deep breath everyone. <3 remember if getting rejected from a fancy professional program is the worst thing that happens to you in 2013, youre lives are still way better than some poor folks in the world. Best of luck everyone go do something fun to take your mind off it!

Thank you TooLove for clarifying! I apologize if in my original post about the phone call that I specified that I would hear this week by "email" after thinking about the phone call I realized that she did not specify email, just that I would receive my official letter and that could very well be through the mail too. So, I'm not sure what to expect at this point either but as soon as I receive something I will definitely update the forum.

For those of you waiting, is AVC your top choice? My fingers are crossed for you!

Hey all! I just received my admissions offer (by email) from Sharon King. I hope today brings good news for the rest of you!

That's very exciting Blondie! Congratulations! You must be over the moon.

Looks like I was bummed for no reason!! Just got my offer of admission!!!

Thanks so much!!!! FYI the email was titled Early Offer of Admission so lots of people may have yet to hear!

Glad you said that, I was so sad... Still waiting...

Yay! Congratulations TooLove! 👍

Everyone else, just take a deep breath and calm down. All this fretting and blind speculation is only going to make the wait harder on yourself. You can't guess your own admissions decision based on who got a letter when and by what path of communication. Better to just relax and let it go. You'll all get your decisions soon enough - giving yourself an ulcer in the meantime is not going to increase your chances for getting accepted. 🙄

Thanks guys!! I totally know how you guys feel, I was there like an hour ago. Hang in there!

Congratulations everyone! So happy for you. Soooo which of you lovely people who has already been accepted wants to email Sharon and ask if ALL the international offers have officially been sent out... I'm afraid to email anyone because i dont want to jinx anything... Ha ....This is depressing . Just venting, trying to be as patient as possible

Honestly, I would just wait. It sounds like plenty of SDNers have been asking them about it and the response has been the same (letters are still going out). It shouldn't be but a few more days to wait and you should know.

Thanks!! 😀 I can't seem to rid myself of this goofy smile.

Just wait it out guys. If I got an early offer there is still plenty of time for good news!

Congrats TooLove!!! :clap::clap::clap:

Yeah, I got an official letter about a week after my email. My guess is they email/call internationals first because mail from Canada can be a bit unpredictable in speed... although mine has a post mark from New York, so not sure what that's about. Maybe someone else sent the letters from a US location? Oh well, doesn't matter.

:xf: For everyone still waiting
