Hi all,
Looks like I got an interview from AZCOM as well. I am going to another one at RVU on the Nov. 7th so, I probably will have to go in January. Hope it won't be too late!
They were still doing interviews into April of last year's cycle...and they accepted many people that interviewed after February of last year. Many.

Someone was mentioning tuition...it was 43 K this year.

And...good luck to everyone that hasnt interviewed yet, those that have already interviewed and are awaiting a decision, and those that have to make choices between medical schools.

im really confused about this resume/CV...ive done casual resumes for part-time jobs, but what does AZCOM want? does anyone have a format I should look to or follow? just a bit confused about this one

I put it somewhat like this.

Name/Contact info

Education

Work History

Skills

Honors/Awards

Other Education (random classes not for credit or workshops taken)

Publications (if any)

Justin

I'm scheduled for interview on Jan 28. If anyone is interested for that date, let me know so that I can withdraw my application. I've taken an acceptance else where.

My undergrad has a career service department where there are people who will help you with CV's, resumes, etc. Not too many students here know about it (I didn't until someone told me about it). Maybe your school has one as well. After they helped me, my cv was set up like sylvanthus's.

good luck

Just put down my deposit. Im moving to AZ. Go Cards.

Im in unless i get off the Western waitlist.....then i must choose.

but im not in there....so AZCOM here i come.

VERY Excited.

anyone know when we sign up for those on campus apartments?

should i include any sort of mcat scores or GPA? when you say "education", im not sure what exactly goes underneath there..

I'm going to withdraw tomorrow.
I'm happy with KCUMB and DMU, and am pretty low on cash for travel+hotel+cab fees in arizona
I'll use that money for the deposits instead.
Good Luck to you AZCOM folks!

No need to include any numbers.

Where did you go to school. What did you study. Bachelors/Masters/PhD. What years did you attend the school(s).

Best of luck.

Yeah, that resume is an excellent way to play up your ECs and research. I increased the text size slightly on mine and formatted it for easy reading. I was glad they noticed it quickly and asked me about it during the interview.

I also put my gpa and MCAT on their, but I don't think you should. Although, I will say the DO on the panel was glad to see my grades, but I don't think it made a difference. He was just curious most of the day I guess.

andexterouss have you canceled your interview yet because i would really to take your date! thanks!

There must have been about a million of you interviewing today. You were following me too. Everywhere I went there were people in suits.

I saw much more yesterday around the library, more people than in my interview group.

That's just because they were thinking "hmm, that guy looks super cool. Let's follow him around so we can learn how to be super cool too". 😉

So are a lot of people at AZCOM religious? seems like there are a lot of mormons. How prevalent is religion on campus and among the DO class as a result?

Yes there are lots of mormons. Also lots of muslims. Many religious people in general.

As far as "prevalence" of religion??? No one talks about religion. Too busy talking about anatomy/biochem. It just doesn't come up. In my experience at least.

During the tour, the admissions people talked about the construction and made a special note about the completion of an "Interfaith" Chapel on campus in 2009, if that says anything. It's true though; everyone is way too busy to talk about anything else but school.

So I screwed myself and got a C+ in one of their SMP core courses. I'm very curious to see how the interview plays out, but I admit I will be a little annoyed if I get rejected based off that one grade since it was my ONLY C and I had a much higher GPA coming into the program (not to mention spending $30k on tuition!!). Stress level = 987349876456 trillion. :scared:

Rennykim,
Sorry to hear this🙁. I was wondering why you chose to do a SMP since your gpa (undergrad?) that you have on your MDapps is very good? 😕
Sorry, not trying to give you a hard time!
I wish you the best in your interviews and I would not worry about that one C! 🙂

Thanks for words of encouragement. I choose to do the SMP before I even knew it was an SMP; I didn't do the proper research before applying -- it was more on a whim and the only grad program I applied to because I was attracted by the 9 month completion time line, it was close to home, and I was constantly being pestered by my family to do something "productive" with my life since I've been out of school for a while, etc. What really sucks is I doubt I can reapply anywhere next cycle with that C+, so I'm really hoping for some good news from the places I've already interviewed at :/

Has anyone who interviewed on November 3rd heard about an acceptance yet??

I'm soo anxious!

Howdy,

Does the admissions committee for CCOM and AZCOM have to receive your LOR'S prior to scheduling an interview?

I interviewed on the 5th and I think we still have a week to go before the committee meets. We interviewed right at the beginning of this month's cycle.

I interviewed on the 4th and they said that we would be finding out within two weeks... So it looks like sometime this week for all of us!

Yes I believe it is part of making sure your application is "complete" and ready for review as to whether you are awarded an interview or not.

Hrm, I recieved 3 C's as an undergrad, mind you a C in org chem 1 and genetics, and none of my 5 interviews asked me about them. My MCAT science scores were good enough I guess. don't worry about one C+.

I interviewed the 6th and we were told the committee would meet the following week, which would have been last week sometime, so maybe we will hear this week.

the sooner the better! an acceptance would be nice 🙂

I interviewed on 10/31 and they told us that it was the first day of the new cycle. I called this morning and they told me I was accepted 🙂 WOO HOO!! They also said that the letter is on the dean's desk waiting for final approval to be mailed out and should come at the end of the week.

You should call their admissions office (623) 572-3215 and ask about a status update. From reading previous posts its my understanding that the adcom meets once or twice a month to give out decisions, so most likely everyone who interviewed around the same time as me has a decision waiting for them on the Dean's desk!

Good luck to everyone who is waiting to hear back!!!

They're super willing to tell you, in fact, when I called, I just said, "Yeah, my name is so and so and I interviewed this date," and the receptionist said, "just a minute," and then came back and said, "Congrats..."

If you want to wait, that's cool, though

I don't think you need to worry about 1 class. As long as the final GPA stands strong, they can overlook it. It's only been one quarter, so stay positive for the next one.

I just called- ACCEPTED!!!!! 😀

They were really nice and I think it would be totally worth it to call!

Accepted!! I agree the lady on the phone was very nice!

What is a nice hotel to stay at that is close to the school? I appreciate any suggestions!

I stayed at the comfort suites in Peoria across from the Peoria baseball stadium where they hold spring training. They gave an AZCOM discount and it was only 79 a night. It is also in a nice mall area with lots of shopping and every restaurant you can imagine 👍👍

Give them a call if you haven't yet. I interviewed on the 5th. I was incredibly nervous but soon followed ahh......... congrats you've been accepted. Best of luck my friends.

That's awesome that we all got such good news today!! Are you guys strongly considering this school? This was my first interview and first acceptance, it is also in my top 5 schools that I wanna go to so I'm pretty stoked 😀.

Hopefully we all continue getting good news!!!

I think you are right. I emailed Heather about it (the nice admissions lady who spoke to us at the "mandatory" MA meeting) and it looks like they aren't waiting for my fall grades or at worst it might come up during the interview. I'm not really sure how to explain what happened, though. It's a little embarrassing because I studied with a tutor, multiple texts, extra problem sets, etc. and still scored 56% (exam 3 which was weighted most heavily), so even with my A on the final I couldn't recover my final grade to higher than the C+ 🙁

Hey everyone! I interviewed on 11/4 and I called on Friday right after the committee met and I'm in too! So far im in at Touro-CA and Touro-NY but I really like AZCOM.....hopefully I see some of you there next year!
Dciple I went to Umich too!! I graduated in '07 tho....what other schools have u interviewed at so far?

If anyone cancels their interview before 2/25 could they please let me know? The only available dates I have are during my finals week, which I can't miss, or during spring break (first week of March), in which I will be visiting my bf and have already purchased the plane tickets 🙁 Thank you...

For those of you who called in for a status check and were accepted - did your online statuses change yet?

Hi guys...I interviewed Nov. 10 and called today to find out about my ACCEPTANCE!! Just waiting for that email/letter to make it official! Did anyone already interview at SOMA in Mesa and what did you think? I have an interview there Friday and did not know if I'd be better off at AZCOM and should not go through hassle of driving to PHX and missing work, etc...

I would definitely visit SOMA or you may have some "what if" regrets later down the road. Both schools are very different and each have their own distinct advantages (and disadvantages).
