Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Stupid horses and their leukograms is all I have to say.

Psh. It's not just their leukograms. They have a constant need to be completely different from every other species. We're in repro right now and everything is like "The ovary does this EXCEPT IN THE MARE...". Freaking horses...

VM2 Week 3 complete.. 3 exams later and I am beat!! It has been a rough week- I feel like I sprinted the whole time instead of marathoning, but I'm happy with my results. Hopefully next weeks 3 exams won't wipe me out so bad !

It's been a LONG week, but I am super pumped for SMOKER tonight!! Not so excited for next weeks exams... but also glad this week went alright.

Oh man, I'm glad I checked this. Totally forgot about clin path. Had my communications lab today so I want to guzzle a bunch of vodka...
The secret is to guzzle vodka BEFORE the communications lab

It's like preemptive analgesia. The drugs work better if you start them before the trauma

I had my MCB presentation today, and wow, was I nervous! It didn't help that there was a party going on above my head until at least 12:30 last night (I finally fell asleep at that time and they were only getting louder). I had an awful, awful dream last night that actually woke me up crying (never had one of those in my life) and then got to deliver my presentation at 10:30, so that was a great start! That being said, I had people coming up to me all day telling me about how fabulous my presentation was and how great I was. THANK GOD.
My presentation was on white muscle disease, and specifically the role of selenium in the glutathione peroxidase system as well as the free radical effects on a cell membrane and how it results in the gross and histological lesions seen with this nutritional myopathy. Just in case anyone was wondering 😉

WMD is a big deal up here. I feel like I'll end up in a place where they never see it and think everything is WMD and they'll be like wut...

How can pharmacology be so interesting and yet so boring at the same time?

It is the exact same thing here. We went over injectable anesthetics today and our professor kept referring to the "clay paw dose" as in when you kill things. He also had theme songs for each drug. Most awesome lecture ever! As opposed to our adrenergic drug lecture, snooze fest.

We have a Clin Path exam tomorrow and our professor keeps telling us that we know it all and we will all pass with an A or B. I feel as if the wool is being pulled over my eyes.

I have been sleeping on an air mattress in a barren "unoccupied" apartment for two weeks now. I put the quotes there because the place was filthy with stuff all over the floor, and onion skin in the fridge when I came to it. Meeting with student affairs tomorrow to discuss the lack of response from the management and what I can do. For housing designed with student life in mind, they're really not helpful in providing a conducive environment to study...

Um well you start by raising hell.

Meh. I've sent multiple emails to the general manager who has either ignored them or sent a one or two sentence reply essentially ignoring everything I said.d I've begun calling the company that owns the building (they keep their CEO's number online and publicly available, nice!) and hopefully student affairs will be able to put some pressure on management, or at least tell me what my options are. The school doesn't own the building but did grant the owners the right to build there, so I'd hope they have some influence. I'm not keen to pay my rent when I couldn't live in the apartment and I'm really not interested in paying the electrical bill that has tripled, despite my absence.

I actually did well on our first (and possibly biggest, besides the final) pharm exam that we were all really worried about! Thanks to the fact that we got 6 points back.

Our first pharm is Friday, I haven't started studying for that yet as we had Infectious Diseases monday and clinical anatomy today. I will start tonight. Luckily it is just basic concepts of pharmacodynamics and kinetics plus little stuff like proper prescription writing and dosage calculations. At least, I hope I don't have issues with any of it!

I'm glad your pharmacodynamics counts as basic concepts. Our teacher liked to put long questions full of calculations with: which of the following is correct? All of them, A B and C, C and E...

I've got a ton of anxiety provoking emails to write that have piled up due to procrastination, and some neuropath to try to struggle through... but I also just ordered some pizza and opened a bottle of wine that tastes fantastic. So I think things might work themselves out. Or at least the wine will make it feel that way.

Well, I am no longer sure that was easy, haha! There were a couple or so that I was just like, ummm.... Weeeeellll....

Oh well. Still did ok, I think, just not great. School has officially kicked off. I have too much to do in too little time and I don't care to do any of it. :meh:

Another 3 exam week is in the books! And we have another next week- bleh.. We are halfway through block 6 though, which is super exciting! Time is going by pretty fast!! This weekend is a home game for Mizzou so I'll be tailgating and going to the game tomorrow- woot woot!!! M-I-Z !!!!

Midterms are in just three weeks :dead::dead::dead:
School spoke to the apartment complex but couldn't do much because even though they sold the land to the company, they have no authority. On the bright side, I got the information for the manager's boss as well as the boss's boss. She continued to give me a lot of non-answers about when I would have a resolution so I CCed her boss and the boss's boss who turns out to be the VP of the company! Got a response this morning that the VP was working on it for me, so hopefully I'll have all my issues fixed before exams start.

Guess what, we are HALF-WAY to clinics!! Kind of scary, but exciting!!

Your weeks sound exactly like our weeks! Plus a few quizzes though :/

Apartment situation solved! I am now the proud renter of one bedroom apartment, and my electricity bill has been taken care of. The apartment complex even hired movers for me. Given a crappy situation, they responded appropriately and I am satisfied 🙂
Unfortunately, midterms start next Friday. Commence freaking out.

Another week done- only 3 more weeks of this block then we start a whole new set of classes! This week the struggle bus was a tracker trailer.. 3 exams in 48 hrs .. I'm glad it's over. I'm gonna go home and get caught up on Nashville and Scandal and just be lazy tonight! Then dinner tomorrow night with friends to watch the Mizzou- South Carolina game!

Hell week begins today. 6 exams in 5 days over everything we've learned in the last 8 weeks. On the bright side, the clinical skills exam last Friday wasn't awful.

I just don't care anymore. *blah*

This attitude has somehow seriously boosted my GPA compared to freshman year, however, I have a feeling it will haunt me in the near future.

I am so there. Like, binge watching New Girl while pretending to go over neuropathology notes and then deciding to go to bed at 9:30 pm (spoiler alert, I've been in bed watching more New Girl for the past 3 hours no longer even pretending to study).

Unfortunately I don't think this has boosted my GPA in any way shape or form. Right now I'm about on par with first semester last year. Which is okay, not great, but not terrible.

I feel like I have senioritis again and IT'S ONLY EARLY OCTOBER SECOND YEAR!!

Two exams down this week, two to go (including two special path exams this week... what the heck?)
Finals are next week, so 6 exams next week... stressed... just want it to be over. Please be next Friday already.

I didn't even try to study neuropath yesterday, so you've at least got me beat. Sucks a little bit, because I didn't pay attention in any of the classes, so I'm basically looking at this material for the first time and have only made it through 1.5 of his 6 presentations, and haven't even started the lymphoid stuff. Good thing this exam's in the afternoon tomorrow instead of at 8 am.... gives us 5 extra hours!

Ha. Ha. Lymphoid stuff. So glad that my MCB exam, that covered lymphoid trafficking and where different lymphocytes are located in the node, as well as central vs. peripheral tolerance... was actually a genetics exam. I'm SO glad that I extensively covered the immunology, the histology, and all that jazz goes along with it. I'm SO glad that I didn't cover the GENETICS because not only was it NOT in the book, the lecture notes, or the study guide, but it was never even mentioned. Hmph.

The awful 5 practical day is over. Just two exams left and then this block is finally over.

I guess it is a good thing I was pretty productive this weekend in my studying, because my level of caring right now for finals is at a minimum... 1 down, 5 to go.

Apparently all I need to get myself to do anything difficult is a deadline. Especially a sudden, impending deadline. I just sent out 4 emails in 15 minutes that I've been procrastinating on for days, and am working on several more that have been hiding at the bottom of my to do list for over a month, all because of one email from my committee chair. :smack:

Which is why the next 3 weeks of nothing but an occasional small open book quiz, followed by one solid week of 3 exams, 1 epic clin path homework, 2 presentations, and half of a written epi report being due all in one week is really not going to go well for me.

Yeah my level of care finally bit me in the behind with clin path. Saddest day.

Best of luck with you all with your exams..
Today was Special path (hemic and lymph systems)... went fine. Cumulative final is Thursday!!
Also parasitology lab final this afternoon (which I have no desire to study... since it is open book/notes/internet)

Classes stopped this week. Instead we have a diagnostic challenge. We work in groups of 5 and have a trained actor as our client and we have an exam then "send off" for labs. I just got my first results. Azotemia ftw!
