The secret is to guzzle vodka BEFORE the communications labOh man, I'm glad I checked this. Totally forgot about clin path. Had my communications lab today so I want to guzzle a bunch of vodka...
I had my MCB presentation today, and wow, was I nervous! It didn't help that there was a party going on above my head until at least 12:30 last night (I finally fell asleep at that time and they were only getting louder). I had an awful, awful dream last night that actually woke me up crying (never had one of those in my life) and then got to deliver my presentation at 10:30, so that was a great start! That being said, I had people coming up to me all day telling me about how fabulous my presentation was and how great I was. THANK GOD.
My presentation was on white muscle disease, and specifically the role of selenium in the glutathione peroxidase system as well as the free radical effects on a cell membrane and how it results in the gross and histological lesions seen with this nutritional myopathy. Just in case anyone was wondering 😉
WMD is a big deal up here. I feel like I'll end up in a place where they never see it and think everything is WMD and they'll be like wut...
How can pharmacology be so interesting and yet so boring at the same time?
I have been sleeping on an air mattress in a barren "unoccupied" apartment for two weeks now. I put the quotes there because the place was filthy with stuff all over the floor, and onion skin in the fridge when I came to it. Meeting with student affairs tomorrow to discuss the lack of response from the management and what I can do. For housing designed with student life in mind, they're really not helpful in providing a conducive environment to study...
Meh. I've sent multiple emails to the general manager who has either ignored them or sent a one or two sentence reply essentially ignoring everything I said.d I've begun calling the company that owns the building (they keep their CEO's number online and publicly available, nice!) and hopefully student affairs will be able to put some pressure on management, or at least tell me what my options are. The school doesn't own the building but did grant the owners the right to build there, so I'd hope they have some influence. I'm not keen to pay my rent when I couldn't live in the apartment and I'm really not interested in paying the electrical bill that has tripled, despite my absence.Um well you start by raising hell.
Our first pharm is Friday, I haven't started studying for that yet as we had Infectious Diseases monday and clinical anatomy today. I will start tonight. Luckily it is just basic concepts of pharmacodynamics and kinetics plus little stuff like proper prescription writing and dosage calculations. At least, I hope I don't have issues with any of it!I actually did well on our first (and possibly biggest, besides the final) pharm exam that we were all really worried about! Thanks to the fact that we got 6 points back.
I'm glad your pharmacodynamics counts as basic concepts. Our teacher liked to put long questions full of calculations with: which of the following is correct? All of them, A B and C, C and E...Our first pharm is Friday, I haven't started studying for that yet as we had Infectious Diseases monday and clinical anatomy today. I will start tonight. Well, I am no longer sure that was easy, haha! There were a couple or so that I was just like, ummm.... Weeeeellll....I'm glad your pharmacodynamics counts as basic concepts. I am sure frozenshades would agree that this next week is going to suck
This was the perfect time to catch the vet school plague going around.
I am so there. Like, binge watching New Girl while pretending to go over neuropathology notes and then deciding to go to bed at 9:30 pm (spoiler alert, I've been in bed watching more New Girl for the past 3 hours no longer even pretending to study).I just don't care anymore. *blah*
This attitude has somehow seriously boosted my GPA compared to freshman year, however, I have a feeling it will haunt me in the near future.
I didn't even try to study neuropath yesterday, so you've at least got me beat. Sucks a little bit, because I didn't pay attention in any of the classes, so I'm basically looking at this material for the first time and have only made it through 1.5 of his 6 presentations, and haven't even started the lymphoid stuff. Good thing this exam's in the afternoon tomorrow instead of at 8 am.... gives us 5 extra hours!I am so there. Unfortunately I don't think this has boosted my GPA in any way shape or form. Right now I'm about on par with first semester last year. Which is okay, not great, but not terrible.
I feel like I have senioritis again and IT'S ONLY EARLY OCTOBER SECOND YEAR!!
Ha. Ha. Lymphoid stuff. So glad that my MCB exam, that covered lymphoid trafficking and where different lymphocytes are located in the node, as well as central vs. peripheral tolerance... was actually a genetics exam. I'm SO glad that I extensively covered the immunology, the histology, and all that jazz goes along with it. I'm SO glad that I didn't cover the GENETICS because not only was it NOT in the book, the lecture notes, or the study guide, but it was never even mentioned. Hmph.I didn't even try to study neuropath yesterday, so you've at least got me beat. I guess it is a good thing I was pretty productive this weekend in my studying, because my level of caring right now for finals is at a minimum... 1 down, 5 to go.
Mine caught me with parasit...and I really hope today's clin path goes better!Yeah my level of care finally bit me in the behind with clin path. Saddest day.
Classes stopped this week. Instead we have a diagnostic challenge. We work in groups of 5 and have a trained actor as our client and we have an exam then "send off" for labs. I just got my first results. Azotemia ftw!
Apparently all I need to get myself to do anything difficult is a deadline. Especially a sudden, impending deadline. I just sent out 4 emails in 15 minutes that I've been procrastinating on for days, and am working on several more that have been hiding at the bottom of my to do list for over a month, all because of one email from my committee chair.
Which is why the next 3 weeks of nothing but an occasional small open book quiz, followed by one solid week of 3 exams, 1 epic clin path homework, 2 presentations, and half of a written epi report being due all in one week is really not going to go well for me.
It's looking like renal! What kind of azotemia? 🙂
